Memory: The Importance of Digital Film

Way back in 1888, the first roll film camera was developed, allowing photographers to take multiple pictures without stopping to reload film. Over a century later it’s still important to be able to take multiple pictures – but today it’s in terms of the memory capability of our digital cameras! Who wants to stop taking pictures because they have to run over to their laptop or desktop computer and download their digital pictures? If you have a choice, select a digital camera with removable storage media. Examples of removable storage media are SmartMedia or CompactFlash Cards. If you
shoot a lot of high-resolution images on the road, you may want to
consider a portable hard drive, like the Clik Drive. It’s a lighter
weight and less expensive alternative to the laptop, if all you want
to do is download and save files. Digital
cameras that offer multiple resolution options are terrific because
they can be used to conserve memory. If you’re only using your pictures
on the Web or in emails, you can shoot them at a low resolution –
opting for quantity (more pictures can be saved for the given memory
capacity) over quality. On the flip side, if you want to print your
pictures or use them for high-quality and professional purposes, you’ll
need progressively more resolution. High resolution pictures “eat”
digital memory at an enormous rate, greatly reducing the number of
pictures you can take with any given memory size.
