The FinePix F700 produces digital pictures
that stay truer to life than ever before, thanks to its Super
CCD SR technology, which doubles the number of pixels on the
chip. The SR sensor offers 3.1 million large pixels (S) with
high sensitivity to light, and 3.1 million smaller pixels
(R) with low sensitivity to light, resulting in a dynamic
range of four times that of previous Super CCDs. Fujifilm
combines this new technology with the traditional color integrity
and overall high quality imaging Fujifilm is best known for,
allowing photo enthusiasts to capture truer-to-life images.
The FinePix F700's sleek metal body echoes traditional film-camera
design with centralized placement of its viewfinder, lens
and 1.8 inch LCD screen. Its 6.2 million effective pixels
(S-pixel: 3.1 million, R-pixel: 3.1 million) can produce high-resolution
images with 2,832 x 2,128 (6.03 million) recorded pixels.
In addition, the FinePix F700 offers on-demand continuous
auto-focus, three color modes, manual functions, advanced
movie recording capabilities, diminished shutter lag, and
at 1.2 seconds, one of the fastest start-up times on the market.
The FinePix F700 also comes with a cradle for easy downloading
and recharging. Fujifilm's proprietary Image Intelligence,
unique image-processing software technologies, is applied
to the FinePix F700 and features vibrant skin tones, clear
whites, sharp definition, and an accurate reflection of the
photographer's original vision.
The F700 is a very nice camera. I wanted
a digital camera with good resolution and optics, and something
small enough and quick enough to grab at a moment's notice
for spontaneous photography. I bought the case, and the camera
stays on my belt all day, ready for use. The shadow detail
is better than most other digital cameras I've used, and a
bit more detail in bright areas. Easy to use as a snapshot
camera, does a tolerable job in the default auto mode. If
you have time to set up a shot, the various program modes,
aperture prefered or shutter prefered, manual focus, exposure
tweaking, white balance adjustments, and lots of other things
you can't do with a film camera are there, if you can remember
how to get to them in time. more

Fed up with overhyped "innovations"? Take heart
from Fujifilm's FinePix F700. It uses the company's new fourth-generation
Super-CCD SR, which fits 6.2 million photosites into 3.1 million
pixel locations. Fujifilm claims this arrangement improves
dynamic range, and--behold!--the camera delivers on that claim.
Add a 3X zoom lens, lively performance, and a strong set of
advanced features, and you have an attractive camera for photo
enthusiasts in the market for a compact snapshooter. We only
wish its images rose above average in areas other than dynamic
range. more

Universally known for great color and performance, Fuji has
also made a name for itself in the digicam arena as a technical
innovator. Several years ago, they introduced their "SuperCCD"
technology, which increases visually apparent resolution in
digital images, relative to those captured with conventional
CCDs. This year (2003), they've developed the new "SR"
SuperCCD technology, which cleverly combines low- and high-sensitivity
photo elements to produce an extended tonal range more akin
to that of film. The FinePix F700 is the first camera to utilize
the Super CCD SR technology, and my experience with it seems
to validate Fuji's claims of superior tonal response. Occupying
the upper midrange of Fuji's line of cameras, the F700 uses
6.2 megapixel sensors (3.1 million high-sensitivity and 3.1
million low-sensitivity) to produce files with resolution
that lies somewhere between that of conventional 3- and 6-megapixel
cameras. more
