I can't believe I've used any other lens

This is my first lens besides the 18-55mm non-VR kit lens that I use with my D3000. I am just beginning to expand my photography and I cannot believe I have used any other lens besides this one. The kit lens feels barbaric! The autofocus is super fast even in low light. The lens is a quite soft and fuzzy on the 1.8 end (why I gave it 4/5 stars), but the shallow depth of field makes it hard to focus at that level anyway. At 2.8 it's much sharper and at 5.6 you could split hairs with it's sharpness. Bokeh is nice and creamy at 1.8-3.5. If you're looking for your first lens upgrade besides your kit, this lens is the way to go. Skip on the 35mm 1.8 DX! This lens will retain its resale value for a long time. Please note: when using this FX lens on a DX body it behaves more like a 75mm NOT 50mm, not so great for a walking around lens but then again that's not what this lens is really for. You get more lens for your money which is great for portrait! It also makes a half decent lens for near-macro close-ups.

must have lens for awesome portraits with bokeh on DX format sensors... using it with D5100 and it's superb. But difficult to "start" with it.

I'm using this on a D40 and it is an excellent lens. I bought it because I needed a 1.8 lens for low light photos. I've also used it in my home studio with strobes for portrait shots. It works great in either application.

I bought this for my wife. She was previously using a 50mm manual focus. Tis has made her life so much easier, especially taking pictures of kids. She is able to get the depth of field shot quickly and accurately before she loses their attention. The AF feature has helped her get the exact focal point she wants, greatly reducing the amount of shots needed. She loves her new lens.

This lens is a great alternative to the f/1.4 version. I read reviews on how it out performs the f/1.4 and it's true. It's also great that it is a fraction of the price.

I purchased this lens from Wolf camera a few weeks ago, and I couldn't be happier with the results. Started taking photo's of the grand children on the beach in the evening just before sunset, the photo's turned out more than I had expected. Mounted on my Nikon D7000, it did a fabulous job. I now have some great portrait shots of the grandchildren that I will cherish forever. Don't hesitate to buy this lens...
