Fast, lightweight f/1.8 prime DX-format NIKKOR lens perfect for low-light conditions, travel, environmental portrait and general photography.

The AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G lens is the first fixed focal length, fast-aperture DX-format lens that affords photographers superb image quality along with the creative possibilities and versatility of the classic 50mm focal length (FX-format equivalent of 52mm). When mounted on a DX-format camera body, it enables photographers to document their world with a lens that produces a picture angle similar to the field of vision as seen through the human eye. Whether new to D-SLRs or a seasoned enthusiast, users will appreciate the extreme low-light performance and the expanded ability to dramatically separate the subject and background with the new 35mm DX lens? wide f/1.8 aperture.

The 35mm f/1.8 NIKKOR lens delivers new and added versatility to the Nikon DX-format digital SLR system and provides DX-format photographers with a broader range of fast-aperture lens options. This f/1.8 prime lens provides users with exceptional control of background and foreground, superb low-light ability, and the natural focal length that has been the staple of photography since its inception.

Lightweight, compact and affordable, this lens can easily become a fast favorite for any level of photographer, and is the perfect complement to D60 users who are just starting to learn D-SLR photography or enthusiasts who love their D90. The AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G lens is ideal for travel, general photography, landscape shooting, portraiture or pushing creative boundaries. The stunning sharpness, clarity and color reproduction are all proof positive of more than 75 years of NIKKOR heritage and experience in optics engineering.

This lens continues the tradition of NIKKOR precision optics to provide photographers with sharp, high-resolution images and the ability to focus as close as 0.98 feet, while the integration of an ultra-compact Silent Wave Motor ensures fast, whisper-quiet AF operation.

The 35mm DX lens construction consists of eight elements in six groups, with one aspherical lens to reduce size and weight, while contributing to the enhanced balance when mounted on a smaller DX-format D-SLR. A rounded diaphragm opening combined with the seven-blade aperture contributes to a substantially more circular bokeh for a more natural appearance of out-of-focus background elements. Additionally, instances of lens flare and chromatic aberration are suppressed using Nikon?s exclusive Super Integrated Coatings, which also help ensure vividly accurate color balance.

  • Fast f/1.8 prime NIKKOR lens - Perfect for low-light conditions, travel, environmental portrait and general photography
  • Engineered for Nikon DX-format digital SLRs - Optical formula optimized for use with Nikon DX-format digital SLRs, rendering a picture angle approximating the classic normal angle of view of a 50mm lens on a Nikon FX-format digital SLR or a 35mm film camera
  • Aspherical lens element - Minimizes coma and other types of lens aberrations, further improving image integrity
  • Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC) - Enhances light transmission efficiency and offers superior color consistency and reduced flare
  • Exclusive Nikon Silent Wave Motor (SWM) - Enables fast, accurate and quiet autofocus
  • Close focusing to one foot - For creative perspectives and versatility
  • Rounded 7-blade diaphragm - Renders more natural appearance of out-of-focus image elements

Purchased 2 weeks ago to use with my D40 and am very impressed so far. Great for taking pictures inside the house under less than perfect lighting conditions. I have the kit lens and the 18-200 VR, yet, this lens has not come off since I bought it. It's the perfect weight and allows me to take great pictures (with avail light).

Perfect lens for the photographer on the go.Fast f/1.8 maximum aperture make this lens ideal for low light, hand-held shooting. Also 35mm on DX gives enough room to compose portraits with use of beautiful defocused backgrounds. The lens is very sharp, has excellent contrast and renders great colors.you cant go wrong with this [$] lens.. pleasure to use..

Comments about Nikon 35mm AF-S DX NIKKOR f/1.8G Lens:

This is one of the best Nikon lenses I have owned, and I've owned a bunch. Nikon has really hit a home run with this one. I guess that's why it's so difficult to fine. I was very lucky to snatch this one when I did.

I am becoming more impressed every time I use this lens. It's a perfect prime lens for my D90 and my wife's d40. The sharpness and contrast are amazing. It balances well, comes up fast and focuses fast and handles like a well trained bird dog. You don't miss much with this guy.

It is the perfect lens for candid parties, wedding receptions and such. The 52mm equivalent on 35 gives it a natural look. And…it focuses at one foot.

Pros:
Excellent price, Fast Sharp Lens, Great Color
Cons:
None so far
Best Uses:
Low light, Portrait, Walk Around
Bottom Line:

Comments about Nikon 35mm AF-S DX NIKKOR f/1.8G Lens:

I've only had the lens for a couple of weeks and I already love it. I'm using it on my D60 and find it very good for indoor shots of our baby without having to worry about a flash. Very natural lighting and color in the pictures with minimum effort and setting tweaks. Plan on using it outside in the near future under different lighting (bright sun/dusk). For the money...you can't get a better lens at this price. Must have lens for an enthusiast with a D40 or D60.

Comments about Nikon 35mm AF-S DX NIKKOR f/1.8G Lens:

I got this lens right before the 4th of July. So I was extremely excited to try it out with the fireworks happening on the 4th. In the past I have had hard times getting good pictures of fireworks and night shots in general. However with my D5000 the lens preformed better than I expected and ended up with great shots. It was my first time using the lens so I have not found any problems with the lens so far so good.

Great single focal lens
By BBQ Judge SteveVerified Buyer from Seattle, WA on 6/12/2009
Pros:
Don't need to play wzoom, Great In Low Light, Phenomenal with fireworks
Cons:
Could be even faster
Best Uses:
Fireworks, Low light, Walking around lens
Bottom Line:

Comments about Nikon 35mm AF-S DX NIKKOR f/1.8G Lens:

This lens was bought especially for a trip to Disneyland. Used it on a Nikon D40x. Usually I use the 2 zoom lenses which came in the kit, but the are not very fast. As hoped, this lens excelled at fireworks and low light. In something very dark like pirates, set your Nikon to shutter priority 1/125 and take the photos; you can brighten where necessary later. This turned out to be great just for scenes in daylight too: even if I get a corner of someones head, the high quality images can be zoomed and cropped for what you really want!
