Comments about Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 VC XR for Canon:

I purchased the Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F2.8 XR Di II VC LD Aspherical (IF) for Canon hoping it would be an efficient, cost effective answer to my desire for an upgrade from my Canon T3i kit lens.
Let me clarify that the kit lens that came with the T3i is quite adequate, producing consistent, beautiful photos.
The Tamron 17-50mm is substantially heavier than the kit lens, but perfectly manageable.
The problem comes in with the auto-focus. In my opinion the
auto-focus feature on the Tamron is inaccurate, inconsistent, and thoroughly disappointing.
I so badly wanted the Tamron to work for my situation I decided to look past the auto-focus failure and just suck it up and go all out with manual focus.
    Wrong!!!
The manual focus left much to be desired also.
It was sticky and super difficult to dial in.
    Fail!!!
I ended up taking the Tamron back, and I'll just have to save up a bit more and step up to the Canon 17-55mm product like I should have done in the first place.
