Comments about Tamron 28-300 mm f/3.5-6.3 XR DI LD ASP AF Lens f/Nikon:

It is a pity the specification does not state that the Lens cannot be used on the D40,D40X &D60 with auto focus. Also it is needed to specify what size dia filter size is required. I cannot use auto focus and the incorrect Filter size was recommended to me to buy. This information I have now found on the Tamron web site for NIKON Service updates.

Comments about Tamron 28-300 mm f/3.5-6.3 XR DI LD ASP AF Lens f/Nikon:

I shoot all types of photography, including weddings, portraits, photo-journalism, wildlife/nature, products, sports, macro and candid people. This is a great lens for one who wants to travel light. One body, one lens, no need for changing lenses if you're concerned bout focal length. Great quality photos for the price. A spherical glass helps make vivid colors show up better.

It's also GREAT if you shoot BOTH digital AND film. Even if you have an older camera from before the auto era, it has the aperture ring to help adjust to the manual cameras as well. This is a very versatile lens!

One bad thing is it has a plastic mount which will require one to replace the lens in 3 - 4 years due to wear on the mount (even if you do NOT change lenses a lot), if you do change lenses a lot, it will severely diminish the life of the lens mount. I recommend finding a lens with a metal mount even if you have to pay extra, it'll dramatically increase the preservation of the lens mount. For clarification, after a few years of wear, the fitting between the lens and the camera body is no longer as snug as it was the first year, it's dramatically looser and the connection can become lax and will sometimes cause the camera not to take a photo when the shutter release button is pressed.

I've made the mistake of purchasing a lens with a plastic mount twice and have payed the price.

Recommendations: FIND A LENS WITH A METAL MOUNT AND PAY THE EXTRA MONEY.

BUT if you don't have the extra money for a metal mount, then purchase this lens hands down. Great quality for the price.

I've included 2 unedited photos. The way the photos appear on screen is exactly the same as when I exposed them on my camera.

Amazing value, but a little slow
By DrewVerified Reviewer from Winchester, VA on 6/13/2007

Flickr addict, Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Pros:
Easy To Clean, Sharp Focus
Cons:
Slow at high zoom, Slow focus in low light
Best Uses:
General Use, Landscape Work, Macro, Portrait, Still Lifes
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Tamron 28-300 mm f/3.5-6.3 XR DI LD ASP AF Lens f/Nikon:

The lens itself is light weight, durable and well constructed. With a filter size of 62mm it takes readily available filters. Optically, it's coatings paired with the included 'tulip petal' style hood make lens flare only a trivial concern, and only when shooting very close to the direction of the sun.

One should be aware that this lens tends to be a little slow with a maximum aperture of only f/6.3 at high zoom causing the need for a tripod or higher ISO. Focusing in low light is slow even when using my cameras focus assist light, and sometimes it just flat won't focus at all. Even in normal light the focus can be slow at high zoom, but it almost always does get a lock.

Even with the cons, I love this lens! I never have to change lenses in the field, and it makes fantastic photos at a very good price. For the casual user and the hobbyist who only wants to buy 1 lens, this is the lens to buy!

I have included 2 sample images made with this lens.

Comments about Tamron 28-300 mm f/3.5-6.3 XR DI LD ASP AF Lens f/Nikon:

DSLR's damage easy (from dirt or sand entering camera body)when removing lenses. This is why I got this lens. This lens is GREAT! It is the only lins I ever usr. It covers a wide range of focal lengths with sharp focus all the way.I have never taken this lens off my camera, I have never had a need to. Simply put I love it.
