Excellent product... especially if paired with a Windows 7 Media Center PC... I get all the local channels with FiOs (check the silicondust[@] for the channels available in your area and provider)... There's nothing more really into it... It's just a tuner and it works... How you watch and record live TV will just be up to the software that you use...

Initial setup for many will require a quick update to firewall settings, if your getting a blank screen your firewall is most likely blocking the stream. In Windows 7 is very easy to correct and a quick trip to the HDHomeRun forums will get you the info you need to resolve. Product once configured works great and is accessible by any computer on the network. Picture quality is fantastic and this tuner will keep you from having to pry open a case to install a tv card that likely is adding heat to your system. I give the unit outstanding marks and would recommend to anyone for use for setting up a PC DVR, you can also stack tuners and add additional home run devices if you need to record additional programs at the same time. PC's using any of the support apps will automatically select an available tuner and stream the requested data.

Using two HDHomeRuns for 4 channels of "Over the Air" ATSC recording, with 500GB drive. You will need a network setup with DHCP-- most routers do this by default.
Unlike DVICO installed boards, this unit installs without driver incompatiblity hassles.

Setup was easy and quick. It's much faster switching between tuners than two internal cards. Quality of the recordings is excellent.

Comments about SiliconDust SiliconDust HD Home Run Dual TV Tuner:
This is a great product. I bought the first one over a year ago to give it a try. Back when I bought it, it was not the most mature product, meaning you had to tweak a lot of things to get it working with Vista Media Center, but once it was setup, it was ROCK solid. Since that time, the company has improved the software for it and it's much easier to setup, and YES it's still very ROCK solid. What I really like about his product is that it just plugs in to your network and not a slot in your PC. Your PC talks to it over the network. In fact, any PC on the network has the ability to talk to the HDHomeRun.
What I don't like about it. Well, not much. I'd have to say it's still takes a bit of tweaking, meaning not every channel will automatically get TV Guide info in Media Center during Media Center's guide setup, you still have to do a little research for that. Luckily, the maker of this product has great help on their website.

Comments about SiliconDust SiliconDust HD Home Run Dual TV Tuner:
The HD Home run does exactly as advertised. I've had a lot of TV cards and this one provides the BEST picture I have ever seen on a PC. If it had an analog tuner I'd be in heaven... (my cable co has lot's of my favorite channels, but not digital yet..) Cake install! (new version of HD Home Run software on their website adds further ease of use)This is FUN.

Set up with 1st one I got went fast, however, it died after about 1 hour. Purchased another one and returned the first. Has been working great for a few weeks.
Comments about SiliconDust SiliconDust HD Home Run Dual TV Tuner:
It's pretty cool. Working fairly well so far. Getting it to work with XP/MCE 2005 was a bit of a chore. Still figuring it out. Recordings of HD are big 7 GB/hr. Setup not hard, great not having to pry open the computer and futz with drivers, etc, but a bit confusing. Total Media works (on my non-MCE XP box), but get occasional error messages regarding settings that don't appear to have been set. Go Figure. Overall pretty good, but such irritations warrant 4 star rather than 5.

Set up easily, found its own firmware upgrade, software was easy to use, works as advertised. Only problem was a lost signal on one tuner that turned out to be a connector that snapped off on the included coaxial cables.

Comments about SiliconDust SiliconDust HD Home Run Dual TV Tuner:
This TV tuner is the first of its kind. It's a external TV tuner that feeds the TV signal into your home network so you can watch TV on any PC. It comes with two tuners, one can be used for your OTA antenna (ATSC) and the other with your digital cable (ClearQAM). You can record on one and watch on the other. But to get this thing running smoothly, you'll need:
- Fast, broadband connection (Cable or DSL)
- Might need to call cable co to boost your signal depending how weak it is
Some other things that would definitely help is:
- Fast wired/wireless router 802.11G or N-draft
- Good wireless adapter, if you have a desktop, go with PCI over USB (you only need this if you have a laptop)
Other notes:
This works with pretty much all third party TV software. If you already have Windows Media Center on your PC, you can easily configure it to work with the HDHR. Also, to watch digital cable (ClearQAM) is all based on your service provider. Some areas may not have any ClearQAM, or unencrypted channels, that's viewable on the HDHR. If that's the case, you can only use a OTA antenna. However, there are some areas where all channels are unencrypted such as MTV, ESPN, etc. To check what channels are available in your area, go to the Silicon Dust website.
Comments about SiliconDust SiliconDust HD Home Run Dual TV Tuner:
I am using this product not inside a complete media solution like Windows Media Center, Mythtv, BeyondTV, TotalMedia etc. In any case the hdhr requires to be programmed and set up via its own little application(s) of which one at least is opensource and therefore pretty much availabe for all platforms (Linux, Mac OS, Windows..) My wish is that it would offer a web interface which would not require the odd interface via running command line such as: hdhomerun_config get|set /tuner[0,1] /channel .. etc. The online manual is very detailed, support is good, many web sites have info on how to use the device in many environments. Its picture quality is fine since it is basically only a digital demultiplexer of the cable signal I feed it. The 100MBit/s ethernet is sufficient to stream 2 HD mpeg over wire simultaneously. Note: With 802.11g wirelesss (54MBit) this is not working well but has nothing to do with the device. I wish I could hack the box more to get into its OS but as for now it works well, boots fast (if ever rebooted) and does not suffer connectivity nor button weirdness. The only con is actually that it looks cheap and not very pretty – the designers should make it nicer, so I hide it.

Silicon Dust engineers their product, when you buy it, it is mature and ready to use. Unlike Hap... guys who work out the issues after you bought it!

I'm using this with Media Center and if you follow the installation instructions and download the most current dirvers (automatically), this worked like a charm. Great product.
Comments about SiliconDust SiliconDust HD Home Run Dual TV Tuner:
Setup was pretty easy on Vista 64. I get a high quality picture but any support is mainly through their Forums which is a tedious way to resolve issues. I currently have an open ticket with silicondust to try and resolve video stuttering issues. The forums said I need excellent video signals and I now have attained them but I am still having minor problems.
Comments about SiliconDust SiliconDust HD Home Run Dual TV Tuner:
I became weary of cable content and now view only the 12 digital local channels in my area. I use HD Home Run with the Vista Media Center and a TV set extender. I record over the air TV on my desktop for later viewing and use my wireless network and laptop as a portable TV set. This setup sounds complicated, but I had all the computing components anyway, it was easy to implement the HD Home Run. I expect that my savings from going off the cable will break-even in less than a year for the extender and the HD Home Run.
Comments about SiliconDust SiliconDust HD Home Run Dual TV Tuner:
I really liked how I can use this for televisions where I do not have a cable outlet and still be able to view my local TV stations in HD as well as the local cable companies free HD listings.
The DVD system is extremely quiet and provides a quality picture.
I liked the first one I bought, so now I am buying another. :-)

I currently have the HD Homerun setup on my Vista computer and using 2 Linksys Media Extenders. I needed to find another way to watch TV in rooms without cable TV outlets and without spending additional money for the cable company to come out add outlets or laying cable all over the baseboards!
With the HDHomerun, I am able to view all of the local over-the-air television stations even without using an additional antenna and able to watch shows broadcast in HD!
I am only now touching the surface of what this product can do. One of the things I was impressed about was of the small footprint. For whatever reason I thought it was going to be much larger, but what a great surprise!
With the economy in a recession and everyone trying to cut costs, this is a great way to watch your local televisions station in HD quality without the cost of cable service, renting their boxes and remotes. Well worth the purchase!!!!!
Comments about SiliconDust SiliconDust HD Home Run Dual TV Tuner:
this is the best (and only) QAM dual tuner for vista or xp MC (VMC or MCE). other solutions require a lot of hacks, this onw just hoks to your network and the drivers make it appear as an ATSC tuner in media center, but gets the QAM channels from your cable company. plus it adds no cpu overhead, takes no slots on the MOBO and adds no heat, and it can conveniently be placed anywhere where you have cable and network connections in your house. the tuners are dinamically allocated, and your neighbor or mother in law in the slave quarters can access it and configure it in her MCE even without cable access, if she has access to your network (wifi). even 802.11g is enough for one channel of HDTV in atsc or qam. for 2, wired or N is best. I have tried the haupauge and ATI cards with minimal results and lots of frustration, now I have the homerun and i hit it pun intended!
