Tim Holtz's products work great and you can do a lot of cool techniques with alcohol inks.

A friend got me addicted to Ranger Adirondack Alcohol Ink. Just drop some colors on the felt pad applicator, add mixatives [metallic inks, available separately], and start stamping - on metal, plastic, glossy paper, vellum.
The alcohol inks swirl and mingle, while the metallics stay on top. The results are unique, resembling marble or stone.
A little goes a very long way. I stamped excess ink onto my non-stick craft sheet, and laid vellum on top. The result was lovely muted translucent paper that coordinates perfectly with the glossy paper and plastic I inked.
Once dry, the paper, etc can be cut into letters, shapes, and whatever you can imagine.
The perfect accent for a multi-colored scrapbook layout.
I confess that I have every available color.
