Comments about Nikon Super Coolscan 9000 ED Scanner:
I bought this scanner to process all my old black and white negatives, 2.25in square and 35mm. Fortunately most of the negatives were still in strips - 3 for the 2.25 and 6 for the 35mm and handling them was easier that the few I had as single negatives. I have processed a few color 35mm slides but I use a professional service for bulk processing of my color slide collection. My intention is to only re-process any slides that are in need of special attention.
At first the slow operation bothered me but I just get on with other computer work while the scanner runs in the background.

The Nikon name says it all. I have been using Nikon products since 1974. From novice user to professional, IMHO -- Nikon has what you are looking for.
