Deep color filters such as Red, Yellow, Orange and Green are used to manipulate contrast with Black & White films, though they can also be used effectively with color films for color special effects. With Black & White films colors in the original scene which are unlike the filter color will be rendered darkly. For instance, many people use red filters to dramatically darken blue skies in their Black & White photos.
