This PA system is perfect for us, it was bought for the Cub Scouts to use, both at meetings and for camping.
Since we will be using it in the woods, it needed to be run off a battery.
Mic Works fine, but you do need to have it right up to your mouth. The benefit to this is that there is no chance of feed back. This is really useful to scouts, since few have experience dealing with a mic that's prone to feedback.
On the downside the wattage is over rated. To start with, it's only one speaker, so your only going to get half the "volume" of a stereo system. On top of that, it's designed to have a reasonable run time on batteries. I'd place it closer to a 150W home stereo system.
It's plenty loud for our needs, but if your looking for 800W of home stereo performance, you would be disappointed.
Sound quality is really good,it's not muddy or tinny thanks to the three speaker system.
There is a slight hum when the mic is on, again, its not a problem for us, but a professional musician may not find it acceptable.
It comes with a 1/4" to 1/8" cable so we can plug in a PC and play sound for a presentation, or MP3 for background music.
I'm not an Ipod person, so I can't speak to the port. The cable mentioned above works great with an Android phone running Winamp.
