Multi-Coating improves overall quality of filter by correcting for refractive properties of the filter glass. With multi-coated glass your photos will look sharper and have more contrast. Though most people use the UV Haze to protect their lens from dust and scratches, it also absorbs ultra violet and blue rays without affecting exposure or color.

Comments about Quantaray Quantaray UV Multi-Coated Filter:

My camera, a Nikon D700, is pretty heavy. The lens is very heavy as well. I had it zoomed all the way in, so the camera got even more top-heavy on the tripod. I didn't have my good tripod with sandbag with me, and used my extra. I left the camera for a moment, and it tipped forward onto cement. I freaked out right away, seeing broken glass, and the sound of the thud, thinking my $900 lens was ruined. The filter took the entire blow, dented a little and glass shattered, but my lens and camera, have NO damage. Buying a replacement for it right away!!!!!

Comments about Quantaray Quantaray UV Multi-Coated Filter:

I bought this new Pentax outfit for Christmas and put the Quantaray filters on immediately. After the occasional shooting of my dogs, maybe twice a week, I noticed a spot on top on one dogs head. No other picure showed this so I took a look at my optic and the coating on the filter was flaking off. I don't know if it was from the cold, but I for one am not impressed with their so called quality. In my rush to go shoot pictures I've misplaced the receipt. We'll see how they handle this from the sku on the package as I paid cash like a dummy.

Comments about Quantaray Quantaray UV Multi-Coated Filter:

For years I've been reading about the pros and cons of leaving a UV or skylight filter screwed on the lens full-time as a means of protecting it. Yesterday I got a graphic demonstration. I casually tossed a travel bag down a flight of stairs. Before it hit the ground I remembered, with a feeling of intense nausea, that my Pentax K-10, with its $400 16-45mm zoom lens, was inside the bag.

The Quantaray UV filter took the impact on its forward edge. The glass shattered, and the metal rim bent so it couldn't be screwed off.

After loosing an appropriate stream of profanity and beating myself up about it for several hours, I picked out the remaining glass shards, clamped the lens in a vise, and, using a miniature hack saw, made a couple of cuts in the rim. A little wiggling with a pair of pliers broke the ring loose from the lens, which, to my immense relief, was undamaged. Apparently the threaded ring at the front of the lens is made of a much harder metal than the filter ring; the threads on the filter were wrecked, but those on the lens are fine.

Tomorrow I buy a new UV filter - and it will stay on that lens permanently.
