Comments about Asus Asus Eee PC 901 8.9" Netbook Computer with Linux (Pearl White):
This is a nice low-power computer. I am used to using an N800 internet tablet from Nokia, & the Eee PC basically does the same things, with a comparable rice & speed, but is bigger, with a bigger screen. I like the web browser (firefox), the filebrowser, & the StarOffice Apps, but the image viewer is sad (can't auto-rotate to make full use of the screen space), & rather than a desktop & a programs menu, there is no desktop space for quick access to frequently used files, & programs are presented in a full-screen launcher with gigantic icons, in a tab layout, where the tabs are not renameable. Besides this, the built-in programs are not uninstallable, so if you're a business (or just an adult) user, programs like TuxPaint (a painting program for toddlers) will always be there gobbling space on the drive. In essence, ASUS includes their own crippled version of Linux (like most commercial companies do when they try to include open-source software but don't know anything about it). I plan to install a normal version of ubuntu in place of ASUS's OS, & then I'm sure it will be the perfect travel buddy. :-)
