I purchased this to take on an extended vacation where I knew I would be taking a lot of pictures. I thought this would be easier to carry in my carry on luggage and I could put it in my camera bag. It was a lot more compact than a laptop. I loved being able to download pictures several times a day. I did not use it for music. The only drawbacks I found were that I was not able to store 'cropped' pictures and I cannot take it to the store and hook it up to the machine to print pictures. I have to download them to the computer, load to external hard drives and then take that to the store. I do love the amount of space and how easy it is to use.
