The AF drive for both Canon and Nikon cameras is equipped with silent, responsive and high speed HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) as well as fulltime manual focus. This lens incorporates an internal focusing system, which eliminates front lens rotation, allowing the use of a Perfect Hood and easy to use circular polarizing filter. Since focusing and zooming do not change its overall length, this lens is easy to hold and use. It is also possible to use this lens with Sigma 1.4x EX and 2x EX Apo Tele Converters to make ultra tele-zoom lens. The lens materials used in this new lens are lead and arsenic free ecological glass.
A removable tripod mount is provided with the lens.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 100-300mm f/4 EX DG APO HSM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon:
I have used it for almost a year now. I like its optical quality; the picture is sharp and vivid. Autofocus is fast enough. I tried the lens for action and for portraits.
Of course, f/4 is not very fast but this is offset by a much lower cost than the other choise I had: Nikkor 70-200/2.8. The magnification is also 1.5 times higher. So really you get the same thing as Nikkor with a teleconverter.
The biggest downside is that the lens flares easily in backlit situations, even with the hood on. Even in a studio, when you a trying to get a perfectly white background, textbooks recommend background light intensity to be 2 stops higher than that of your subject, and the light reflected from the background can cause the lenst to flare.
I also did not like the tripod collar, as it gets in the way when you zoom, and soon lost it :) I bought tripod collar TS-41 which Sigma sells as an optional accessory, and I like it much better.
But as I said, it produces high-quality images which is what I use the lens for.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 100-300mm f/4 EX DG APO HSM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon:
I use this lens with a Nikon DS 200. It takes decent pictures of sporting events when lighting is good, but the lack of VR really hurts. Not the lens of choice for low light photos. It is good for day time use only, early morning or anytime after the sun begins to set the quality really goes down. It is a good back up lens, which is generally what I use it for. Overall, I habe been very disappointed with his lens.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 100-300mm f/4 EX DG APO HSM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon:
This lens is Heavy but very sharp. I use it hand held and get good results. This is by far my best tele. You won't be sorry with this one. F4 is constant through out the range. Weight is the only draw back.
