The SWM takes full advantage of 3D tracking autofocus (AF) systems, such as those found on the FX-format D3X, D3 and D700 D-SLR cameras. Three focus modes are available - M, A/M and M/A - for automatically focusing, manually focusing or fine tuning AF performance to best suit the photographers' needs. By far the best lens in my bag, and I now own eight NIKON lenses. Very expensive, but you get what you pay for. If you can afford it, BUY IT.

Buy this lens. You will not be disappointed. It is sharp at all focal lengths, has (literally) no distortion and all movement during zoom is internal. I would purchase this lens again, and possibly a second. Nikon really knows how to make a pro-level lens! Great construction, Great quality.

I use this lens to photograph sporting events where speed, sharpness and control are paramount. This lens exceeds expectations by every measure. The new VRII coupled with F2.8 continuous aperture allow for precise shooting in low light situations where sharpness and fast focus are critical. The detail captured in every shot is something you'll have to see to believe. This new lens will see lots of use by me!

Version II is designed with more thought on how the lens will fit and feel in your hand than Version I. The zoom ring, focus ring and the rubber grip at the end are placed in a user friendly order, as they should. The rubber grip (ring) at the front of the lens takes alot of the weight off your arm and aids in stabilizing the lens. Focus is blazing fast and accurate, VR is quick to steady and lock the frame as seen thru the viewfinder. The color and sharpness of the photo's I have taken thus far are breath taking. Being a Pro lens the build quality is superb. The higher price you pay over Version I is justified. You are shooting with a lens built to be used on a FX camera, no dark corners.
I use this on my D700 and it will certainly be used on my D90. Nikon, kudos to you.
