I have had this lens for nearly four years. It is my "walk around" lens. I also use this as my main lens for weddings. It's zoom range is ideal for all situations.
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
Its the only lens I need to carry now. It can fulfill nearly and need I have. I no longer cary a big bag of gear, just My camera with this lens attached. I rarely use a tripod anymore either because of the VR-II.

I am a hobbyist and love to take pictures of most any subject. This lens gives me the ability to shoot the things I want to, upclose or at a distance, without having to change the lens. It is a bit heavy but I dont mind. The results are what I'm looking for and this lens is perfect.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I purchased this lens with my Nikon D90 rather than the usual kit offer and am so glad I did. It's like having two lenses in one since the focal length ranges from 18-200 mm. Now I don't have to change lenses to get a zoom shot across a room.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I've had my lens for about a year now, and I am happy with it. I like the convenience of this lens. I used to have an 18-55 and a 55-200, and I found myself switching lenses a lot. Not having to change lenses not only keeps me shooting, but it also prevents dust from getting into the camera body. I have used this lens for portraits, nature photos, product photography, and just general snapshots. I would recommend this to a friend, but with the following warnings:
-This lens tends to be soft, especially when fully zoomed.
-This lens sometimes has trouble focussing when there's a lot going on. No matter what focus settings I use, it's really hard to focus on or through tree branches, for example.
-This lens is notorious for developing lens creep. My lens just started creeping, and it seems that Nikon can't do anything about it. It's not a manufacturing defect, but moreso a side-effect of the design of a lens with such a wide zoom range. It seems as though a lot of people experience this issue, and a lot of people don't have this issue. It's an inconvenience.
Overall, I am a little disappointed with the lens creep issue. I feel that Nikon is a dependable company with good products, and I was just disappointed to find out that the lens I bought does have the lens creep issue.
I will continue to use my lens, and I will continue to purchase Nikon products.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I had used my Canon for years without any complaints. It consistently produced good work and it still does. However I recently started working with a local photographer and photographing mostly weddings. He uses a Nikon D90. He complained that my Canon gave off a green tone compared to the Nikon. When I compared it did look a little green. We had shot on the same settings it was only the camera. He had to use my shots in black and white or color correct to use them. This disappointed me. He suggested that if I could to switch to Nikon. This cost me a little but WOW. What a difference that I did not expect! Now my work can be right by his and not look inferior. Thank you Nikon and to all you Canon users I still use my Canon around the house and such. Serious photography, I use the Nikon. No other choice!!

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
This is probably the best all-around lens you can have for a DX format camera. The images are sharp and clear, you have a very wide focal range and the focus is almost instantaneous. It is easy to see why this is one of the most highly rated lenses around.
That said, this isn't the perfect lens either. It's definitely no featherweight, albeit nothing compared to the weight of all the lenses it replaces. The zoom definitely creeps quite a bit when not fully retracted, but when it's fully back, it stays put just fine. This is not a great lens for night photography either. But there are few lenses this versatile that are.
If you can't afford to have or carry a bag full of lenses, then buy this lens. It's not cheap or light, but it is optically superb and it the best bang for the buck.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
The lens is a nice quality product and a great all-around lens if snapshooting is your thing. For the average family looking for a nice lense for family snaps...great.
It lacks the same sharpness as , say a Nikon 70-200 f2.8 lense, but it also lacks the same hefty price tag. If you are looking for a solid all around lens but don't want pro quality (or price) then it's a great buy.
For those looking for Nat Geographic quality, or Sports Illustrated....take out your wallet. It will cost you 2x this lenses price to get the right optics.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I wanted a longer zoom than the 18-105 that Nikon includes in the kits. This lens is the perfect one-lens solution for outdoor work. I prefer a lighter zoom such as the 18-55 for indoor work. Together they make a perfect photographic arsenal. The AF and VRII features make long distance photos easy and perfect.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A MED-RANGE ZOOM LENSE, MAKE SURE YOU GET THE VR FEATURE IF YOU PLAN TO TAKE PHOTOS W/O A TRI-POD. WHEN YOU LOCK YOUR FOCUS (THIS IS WHEN YOU HEAR THE BEEP EVERYTIME YOUR LENSE FOCUSES ON A SUBJECT), NOT ONLY DOES IT LOCK THE FOCUS BUT THE VR FEATURE ASSISTS IN KEEPING A "STILL" SHOOT EVEN WITH MINOR SHAKES. I USUALLY USE THIS LENSE MORE AS MY STANDARD LENSE INSTEAD OF MY TYPICAL 18-55

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I bought this lens as an upgrade from my 18~55 DX and 70~300 AF-G. This lens lets me take better advantage of the creative properties of my D-80 with out having to change lenses.. The VR technology lets me make great shots out of those that would be of marginal quality otherwise.
If you are looking at other makes as a compromise to the 18~200 VR, wait and get the Nikon product...you will be glad you did.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
This is a Great Lens! It's even helped cover-up some sloppy technique on my part. The 2nd generation VR on this lens works much better than the 1st generation. This lens replaced a Nikon 18-135mm and a 55-200mm VR. Using this lens on my D80, I noticed a subtle increase in focus speed and accuracy from the 2 other lenses. I use this lens for portraits (not the best lens for this ,but pretty good), sports (motorcycle racing) and general purpose shooting. I'm very happy with all the results I get.
Cons for this lens are:
1. Not the best bokah, but livable.
2. Lens creep can be a problem if you don't return the lens to 18mm before letting it hang down. I haven't walked around much without holding onto the camera so it doesn't bounce around. I suppose if I was walking and let it just hung there and swing free it would creep.
3. Not a 2.8 lens. VR2 is great but I would still like the lens to be a bit faster instead of having to boost the ISO. I believe a 2.8 would have better Bokah as well.
If you're looking for 1 lens that will do it all, this is it. Highly Recommended

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
The range and sharpness of this lens is great, but it broke 10 days into a 12 day European trip. It was promptly repaired under warranty when I got back, but it does feel "flimsier" than my other lens (off course the plus side is it is WAY lighter than my 2.8 80-200) The vibration reduction really works well, I get better low light pictures zoom pictures (ie from the audience with no flash at a school concert) with this than with the 2.8 even though the f stop is higher. It is a bit slower focusing than my old lenses, but not enough to keep it from being my primary lens.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
This lens is fantastic. Replaces 3 lenses I used to carry, do not have to worry about dust, drops or weight when on a photo trek. Usually only take this lens when going on short hikes or social gatherings.
Wide or Tele enough for almost all of my photo needs. Low light I add a mono-pod as with the VR I rarely need a tripod. Lens may be a little soft for
the perfectionist or pro, but the average consumer will Never notice. Even after severe crop, (D40x and D300), family and friends have raved about Pix

This lens cannot be used if you are looking down or up. The lens creeps by itself. The only way to photograph a flower is to hold the lens with your left hand or use a piece of tape to hold lens in position. Same thing if you are looking up to grab a shot of a bird in flight. You will have the lens fall back on you. This lens is perfect if you keep the camera somewhat level. Takes great photos. I surely would advise somebody to purchase this lens. It is superior to my last camera and several lens to match this 18-200mm. You will be very satisfied with this lens as I am. Good shooting to you. Doug

Very versatile lens high quality construction. This one however broke after 10 days of light use, gear screech noise from inside, had to send in for repairs[...]Takes some time to get it back repaired from nikon. Have been using now for a month, it seems ok sometimes a little noisy in the autofocus it might need repairs again soon? [...] I don't feel like the $$ savings was worth the downtime and basically now my "new" lens is a factory repaired lens and I have only owned it for 45 days. The range and use of this lens is extrodinary. I shoot forclosing homes for value and speedy shots from a quick stop in the street are critical, fast autofocus on my D-300 and superior zoom make this my favorite outside lens. Inside homes 18mm isn't quite wide enough. Get the 12-24mm

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I use this lens on my D60. I had purchased the D60 in a kit which included two Nikkor AF-S DX VR lenses
* 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G
* 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED Lens
I knew from using my Nikon FG, purchased in 1980, with a 35-70mm lens that those two lenses would not work for me. Most of the pictures I take are in the 35-70 mm range. I know I would find myself wanting to switch to the “other lens” for a picture.
I looked and found the Zoom-NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G lens. I also looked at a Sigma 18-200mm lens but the price difference/savings was not enough for me, so I purchased this Nikkor lens. It not a cheap leans, actually about the price of the D60 with a 18-55mm lens. The lens is worth the price! It takes great pictures and you can tell it is a quality build by how smooth things operate.
It is now my only lens for my D60. The 18-55mm & 55-200mm now sit on a shelf in my closet. I doubt I’ll use them since the 18-200 does everything I need. Things I have noticed about the 18-200mm are the following:
1) It uses a 72 mm filter, the lenses which came with the camera use 52 mm filter, so it is a larger diameter lens.
2) Some people may think the lens in heavy at 19.8 oz, vs 11.8 oz of the 55-200mm which came with the camera. I don’t think it is a problem but my Mother complained about the weight.
I would recommend this lens to anyone looking for a 18-200mm lens. If you want a faster lens you will have to look at a fixed focal length since this is a f/3.5-5.6 lens.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
This lens is particularly useful for someone wanting to use a single lens for multiple purposes. By using one lens, the chances of getting dust in the camera or dropping/damaging the lens is virtually eliminated. It includes vibration reduction, a great feature.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I got this lens because of an upcoming trip to Africa and I didn't want to take any more equipment than necessary. It did it all and produced more than 2,000 high-quality images in my Nikon D40x. With the VR and outstanding design, it beats the lower-priced competition. The only problem is that I now have little use for my 18-55 lens.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
The 18-200 range covers almost all situations. I no longer have to change lenses. The VR is great for situations where there is no time to set up a tripod and not enough light to use a fast shutter speed.
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:

I use this lens every time I go out. It is the best all around lens that I have. It can get in close or back out, what ever the situation. The only problem I have had is a little keystoeing with intermittent focal lenghts. Over all the Lens is the best zoom lens that I have used

This is a great do it all lens. It can get in close or back out to get the whole soht. The VR is great. You can realy get a full stop or better out of it. Its quick for its size. Not a cheep lens but if your looking for a great do it all lens or up grade this is the one you want. The only problem I have had is a little keystoneing, but it is a wide angle lens so that is to be expected at certin focial lenghts.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I bought this lens expecting a high quality all purpose lens; that is exactly what I got. The most satisfying experience using it was a recent trip to Alaska, where it performed beautifully whether the subject was people, animals, or landscapes. Like other reviewers I have experienced some lens creep while carrying the camera by the strap, but this is just a minor inconvenience. The fact that I have given one of these lenses to each of my children says how much I am enjoying it

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
This one lens covers most situations for both indoor and outdoor applications. The VR feature makes hand-held shots at over 1/10 second possible. Light and compact enough for a long hike. Don't throw away your macro, fisheye, long telephoto, or f2.8 and larger lenses, keep them for mission-critical applications where longer, wider or shorter may still be required.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
For about 10 years prior I was still using NIKON FE lens...in particular that 28-85 IAS "traveling lens"...then I went to point and shot 5.1 megapixle...and NOW using NIKON D300 with this 18-200 mm lens...more than a lens...this is like a DREAM come true...seems like I have a "traveling lens" given to me by the GODS!...and it has autofocus! I first used it to take picture of BIRDS in the WILDLIFE REFUGE, and at first I had some challenges getting accustomed to new technolog...BUT 10 day later! WOW! INCREDIBLE! I took a photo of the Engrit...my spelling may be off a little...anyhow, the bird was flying low to the water and it capture it beautifully with a beautiful REFLECTION! I have never seen a photo better in my life! I thought this was a SLOW lens like in the OLD days with my NIKON FE but with DIGITAL technology today, these babies are on STERIODS it seems! I consider this a FAST LENS! I have takes some AWESOME photos of BIRDS flying that I thought I would not be able to capture...I thought originally the lens was only for still pictures! MUST BUY for ALL PHOTOGRAPHERS!

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I shoot school sports portraits for a living and am on the go non stop while at a shoot. at the school running from the gym out to the ball field to do baseball, then over to the track to take care of them. between my paperwork, the alien bee and power pack...I tend to leave the tripod in the truck. well more than a time or two have I had to walk across campus to get it just in case I am not as steady as I brag about. well no more is that in issue, obviously if I am shooting several teams from one position I will use one, but I must say that I am very impressed with the vibration reduction. never used one before, I guess I am ruined now since I will not be able to bring myself to buy glass again without it. I have hand held macro shots at a focal length of 200mm, subject at 1.5 feet, with a shutter speed of 1/6th second with no visible "shake".
I was burglarized a couple months ago and had all my equipment taken...luckily the insurance company came threw and I was able to upgrade my rig. I was dead set on getting the D300, but was torn over the the choice of lens kits. I had used the 18-135 every day for a year or more and was sure of its quality and ability, but thought I would treat myself, as if the 300 alone wasn't. highly recommend this over the 135, if not for the VR, for the longer focal length and the metal mounting ring. 18-135's is plastic
I am very very happy with the choice.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I Love this lens. I use it on my D80. It is a great all around lens, I get awesome wakeboard & barefoot waterskiing shots. Which for the barefoot shots it is about 75ft from where I sit. It pulls the action in nice & I can crop them in further & still have great pic. The VR is helpful in a boating situation.
Having the range of 18-200mm to float between makes it a great everyday type lens. Portraits Are great, indoor volleyball & ice hockey pics are good. Better with some learning- Only thing that would make it better would be a bit more tele... But, it is adequate for most situations. So I am looking into the 80-400mm VR.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
When you buy (or own) a Nikon dSLR (DX) - this is the lens to get. Buy the body and the 18-200 VR; don't waste $$ on other lenses that come with outfits. Consider the cost of the 18-200VR as part of the package deal - rather buy a body one notch down if budget is an issue.
This is hands-donw the most useful and all-round lens currently available for the Nikon dSLR unless you go for prime lenses.
To complement this lens, get the Sigma 10-20 on the wide end and if you need it a 400mm+ lens. A good addition is also a Nikon 1.8/35 or 1.8/50 for evening events when you want to pack light.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I bought this lens simply so I wouldn't worry about getting dirt or dust on the sensor when changing lenses. Since receiving the lens I have only good things to say. I went on vacation shortly after receiving the lens and walked around San Fran for 8 days with the D40 and this lens-was great to get both the wide angle for some of the scenic bay shots and zooming in for others.

Since receiving this lens, it hasn't left my D40 Body. This lens replaced my 18-55 (which came with the D40) and the Nikon 55-200. But added the VR. However I don't use VR as much as I thought I would. I use this lens mostly for scenic images. The range is great when using for people, from a wide group shot to zoom to a particular detail.

I chose this 'all purpose' VR lens to take everywhere... when I did not want to tote several heavier duty lenses. I find the ease of use, weight and clarity on the D300 very good for general purpose shooting. I would recommend it as a starter lens to any Nikon 'nuts' like myself. [@]

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
This is the first lens we've added to our D40x, other than the stock lens that came with it. We found it a bit heavy, but we'll worth the weight as it is the perfect lens to keep on our camera for all around shooting.
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
It's a good flexible lens that is lightweight and takes good pictures. It seems flimsy when compared to pro lenses like the 70-200 or 17-35 but it stays on my D50 while the better lenses are used on a D300.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I bought a D80 and got this lens to use as my main lens so I would have a wide range of zoom capabilities and had read much about this being the first choice of lens that can stay on the camera and get good results. Although pricy, I like that I don't have to keep switching lenses as I would have if I got the 18-55mm and 70-200mm lens in the kit I was considering. Plus this has the VR which helps improve clarity in zoom shots and is the way to go with the Nikon lenses today. Al-in-all I love the pictures so far, even though I am new to digital photography so I do not see some of the other negatives people speak about yet. Highly recommended as main lens.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
Consider this: How much money would you spend on three or four lenses to do all the jobs that this one lens will do by itself. It's a "no brainer". The lens creep was expected, but the shadows cast by the flash on close ups was not. I thought the lens would be short enough for close ups with flash. I was mistaken. Still, all in all, this lens has prevented me from spending any more money on other lenses.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
Great overall lens. I've owned a N.Y. portrait / wedding photography studio for more that 20 years. This is the best multi purpose lens I've owned. Not the world's fastest but brides don't move like racehorses. From photojournelism to portraits, to candids the lens does it all beautifully. Watch out for distortion on close shots where you are wider than 24mm.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
Upgraded from an 18-135. The VR by itself makes it worth it. The added zoom is a bonus. Possible to zoom out to 200 and take blur-free photos. But be aware of lens creep when carrying this around.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
This lens is a perfect walk-around lens. Well worth the price. Built well, but not quite as good as the Nikon 70-300mm VR. It has some weight to it, but it is not too heavy even on a D40. It's full of glass so it’s not going to be light. As mentioned by others, there are some creep issues with the zoom. The broad range in focal length makes getting the "shot" easier. This lens has been ideal for about 80%-90% of our shooting conditions. I would find it almost impossible for one lens to do more, without costing 4 times as much. I would be the first in line to buy the same lens in a constant f/2.8 if Nikon was so inclined, even if it was 3 times the price. The 200mm focal limit some times leaves us wanting to get a little closer. When we need more reach, we just switch to the 70-300mm.
We've used it on our D40 and D80. This lens worked great on both cameras. The only negative marks I would give it is the slower shutter speed limits with low light shots, but if it were faster it would cost much more. Low light conditions at full zoom are a hit or miss due to the f/5.6 aperture, with hand held and moving subjects being particularly troubleling.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
Mostly nature photography--especially wildflowers and fungi. This is my walk-around lens of choice for my Nikon D70. It replaces a Tamron 28-75 + 1.4 teleconverter. The Tamron didn't have enough wide-angle but otherwise was a more robust and faster (F2.8)lens than the Nikon 18-200.
I like the big 200mm zoom but still would like to have had a faster lens for better stop-action capabilities in low light situations.
My biggest disappointment is the sloppy zoom creep of the Nikon 18-200VR. Some users reported that full retraction prevented zoom creep--that is not true. Full retraction worked for me for about 1 week of use and then the lens began to "fall out" of retraction anytime it was pointed toward the ground--especially at angles more than 60 degree off of horizontal. This can be very aggravating when shooting downward at anything other than full zoom. I'm thinking of fabricating an elastic fabric wrap of some sort that will slip over the lens body to hold it in position yet be loose enough to allow me to easily zoom. Nikon should have fixed this problem long ago since I know everyone seems to complain about it.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
If you buy only one lens for your Nikon, this is probably the one to get. It is incredibly versatile, and the VR works very well. The VR will allow hand-held shots at shutter speeds I would never attempt without it (like 1/10 s @ 200 mm FL). Focus is fast and very good for a zoom lens.
Having said that, there is only so much that a f/5.6 lens can do. VR helps prevent blurring due to camera movement, but not subject movement. For instance, I tried to shoot my daughter's volleyball tournament in a typically-lit (i.e., poorly) high school gym and found that there just wasn't enough light to stop the action even at ISO 1600. I could have taken good still life photos in that light with the 18-200, but not action shots. I switched to a 50mm f/1.8 lens, and got good results. In that situation, I needed a fast lens, not VR.
AS long as you understand the limitations of VR, of zoom lenses in general, and of f/5.6, you will love this lens.
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
My first with Nikon, love it. I am already looking at more lenses. To think that I had second thoughts about going with a digital camera, I would never want to go back to film.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I use this lens daily and, over all, it is a good lens with sharp focus. It has a very wide range and is literally the only lens I shoot with right now. If you are considering this lens, it will probably serve you fairly well. The biggest problem with this lens is its tendancy to extend on its own when pointed even SLIGHTLY downward. It really makes the lens feel cheap and poorly constructed. In my opinion, spending [$]for a lens is enough to expect tighter construction. When my camera is hanging on its strap around my neck, the lens slides out to fully extended in just a matter of a few seconds (hormones?). Don't get me wrong, I like the lens, but the more I use it, the more I wish the lens was not always sliding out.
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
This is a great lens, period. It's not tack sharp but it's the only lens you'll ever need for general photography. Sharpness is acceptable at all range (18-200mm). Lens creep could be a problem for some user.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I use this product for all around photography here in Southern California for mostly outside activities, wildlife, and scenery photography.
I like the weight of the lens, albeit hefty, because it allows me a pivot point for target acqusition and letting me operate the camera controls more easily with my other hand.
Took it out of the box yersterday and ran it throught its paces at the San Diego Zoo and the Beach area nearby, just super results.
I experienced no creep which seemed to be an earlier complaint.

I like the versatility and general usability of the lens. With someone who has a tight budget, this lens is for you. Bokeh is nice and the reach is spectacular at 200 coupled with the VR. This one is certainly going to my 5 piece collection.

Great all around lens! I was skeptical at first because of all the talk about lens creep, but other than a little creepin I'm very happy with it. With the VR, the great pictures and versatility it all makes up for it!

Paired this lens with a D40x. Wow! The autofocus is very quick, the 11x range is so versatile. I never was a great photographer, but right out of the box this lens/camera combo has produced some of the nicest pics I've ever been lucky enough to take.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I love this lens! We put it on when it arrived and have never taken it off. It works great for all casual use, and great for kids and their sports. If you are photographing indoors and need to zoom all the way out you will need a better flash on the D40. The picture picks up a black artifact from the lens.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I have had this lens just a few months. The quality of the images is spectacular. However, the lens has been sent into Nikon for repair already. A small bump while shooting has this lens in the repair shop. For the money, this lens should be made better. I previously was a Canon user. Never had this problem with Canon lenses.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I bought this couple of days ago and put it to work this weekend and I couldn't be more happier while taking photos - one sweet lens. A little heavy but it's worth it considering that it functions as all-in-one type of lens. Durable construction and sharp focus too - VR serves its purpose. I only have used this over the weekend and no negative feedback so far (hope it stays that way :).
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I have used this lense now for about a year and I love the range it has. It covers everything I have taken pictures of from close to far.

I remove it only when I need the 12-24 or the 300! Feels great! Shoots great! Love it!

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I,m really enjoying this camera. Before this, I waited over 20 years to replace my Nikormat EL. At the tail end of the film era, I bought an F100. I also bought an 80-200 f2.8 Nikkor to go with it. It was a great combo but I had to wait to get the film back to see what mistakes I had made or what settings I had set wrong. Plus, good scanners aren't cheap if I wan't to get good quality photos into my computer. Now I'm not afraid of wasting frames, I can check what I took right now, and I am learning alot faster. Also the 200mm works like a 300mm f2.8. I just shot the horse races, and with focus tracking, 5fps, 300mm f.28, and all the frames I want, I have some beautiful shots. I'm a happy camper.
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
Great lens for general shooting situations. My only wish was that it was faster.
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I have very mixed feeling about this very popular, and hard to get lens. I ordered mine recently[...].I have taken some great shots with it. However, through the mid range, about 55-100 mm or so, the aspect ratio/geometry looks very odd. Compared to my kit lens (18-55), and my 55-200 VR-I, well, they just look better to my eye. Certainly there is some subjectivity involved in evaluating glass. I have not run into the zoom creep that it is notorious for. The sheer weight of the lens, combined with the broad focal length, almost makes it unavoidable at some point. Nikon really should design some kind of lock for walking around and wearing it, or for storing it in your bag.I like it on the wide, and close ends. It's versatility and ability to leave it on the body, therefore minimizing the opportunity to introduce dust onto the sensor, make this a great "Swiss Army Knife", all purpose lens. yes, it is not, by any means, a fast lens. But the VR-II feature does indeed work very well, and does what it is supposed to do, as advertised.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I was anxious to get this lens and waited four months for it. I've been using it for about six months and find that it is middle of the road for optical quality. I wound up buying a standard 50mm for taking sharp photos and portraits. What is very annoying is the zoom creep. After each shot, if I allow my camera to hang with the lens down, it racks out all the way to 200 mm every time. I finally got fed up and sent to Nikon for service. They claim it is normal and did nothing.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
We do wedding photography mostly. Some family portraits and some wildlife and floral photography and this is a great overall lens. I love the VR on this lens. I keep this lens on the D 80 and never change it. keeps the sensor clean. If I need another
lens then I use the backup camera. Great for an overall multi-purpose lens. If I only had one lens for my D-80 this would be it.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I know that everyone complains about the additional weight of this lens, and the lens creep that happens when this lens is used either shooting straight up or straight down, however, these probles are greatly offset by the dependibility and wide shooting range that this single lens offers.
The drawbacks listed by most reviewers is due to its durability. This is a heavyweight professional grade lens and not a cheap plastic bodied imitation like some of the competitors are offering.
I am a professional wedding & portrait photographer and my livlyhood depends on sharp clear images. This lens saves me valuable time while shooting because I no longer have to stop and change out lenses, or even grab a second body with a different lens mounted on it. I mount this one lens on my Nikon D200 and go. I am able to shoot the etire wedding without changing out a single lens, which means that I have more time to shoot great images.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
This lens really works well especially Vibration Reduction feature, which helps eradicate blurry pictures. Now I can take handheld images at slower shutter speeds and in a wider range of lighting conditions.
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
Only had a few days, but so far am fairly impressed with the abilities. VR is awesome. As purported, there is some lens creep in the middle range (80-135 or so). It's heavy, but there's a lot of glass in there, so no wonder.
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
This lens replaced the 18-55 and 55-200 that came with my D40 kit. I've had the lens a few days now and have taken about 200 or so shots. The VR does help quite a bit when there's low light --- sounds a bit like moving gears inside when it's on --- kind of amusing. All in all, I think the lens is quite good, though like others I experienced the creep issue. It doesn't happen when the lens is at 18mm and pointed down, but once it's out a bit, the creep does occur. All in all, I think the lens is a slam dunk and really obviates the need for changing lenses throughout the day. There's nothing else like this right now.

I wanted to get the 18-200mm for a long time, and finally a month ago I bought it. I couldn't be much happier with it! Apart from being a little slow it's just great.
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:

Used the lens today for the first time. I can't believe how sharp and crisp my shots were. So far I have not had any problem with lens creep that I have read so much about. This will solve the problem of having to change out lenses all the time. This one does almost everything I need. It's great on my D80.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I BOUGHT THIS CAMERA FROM RITZ CAMERA. THE DELIVERY WAS INCREDIBLY FAST! THE LENS IS EXACTLY WHAT I EXPECTED AND MORE. THE VR REALLY WORKS. I TESTED AT 200 mm AND SHAKE THE CAMERA IN PURPOSE. THE RESULT WAS A VERY SHARP IMAGE.
I WAS IMPRESSED. SOME PEOPLE SAYS IT CREEPS. MINE DOES ALSO A LITTLE BUT WHEN ATTACHED TO MY D200 AND MB D200 BATTERY PACK THE CAMERA STAYS ORIZONTAL SO IT DOES NOT CREEP.
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I love the zoom range on this camera, especially for fast paced events such as weddings and sports photography. The only drawback is the maximum aperture of 3.5 which is a little slow for weddings in churhes where flash is not allowed. The VR is great though and very helpful.
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I purchased this as an upgrade from the 18-135 mm thinking the extra focal length and the VR would be worth the extra money. I am going back to the 18-135 as I get much better photos and the lens is much lighter. Perhaps I purchased a lemon?

But man this lens creeps like a mutha, pointed up or down. This is the only downside for me , and I live with it because i am such a fan otherwise. GET ONE! ( maybe they've fixed the creep issue by now)

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I "upgraded" to this lens from the 18-135mm kit lens. I was very disappointed in this lens. I could not produce a single shot I was happy with today. Although this is my first day with the lens, I didn't have any problems getting quality shots out of my kit lens. The bokeh from the 18-200mm is terrible. Very grainy. I must have a dud...

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
I will start with what it is not for:1.This is not for pro's cherished lens for their daily work for living. 2.This is not for fast action, sport photos. That does not mean it is slow in focus, but not fast enough to catch kids in their basketball games, either. Now what this is for:1. A perfect whole day's walk-around lens for street people photos, sight-seeing photos, zoo-visiting photos, sometimes sun-rise, sun-set photos, because it is fairly light for its versatility. 18-200mm range is good for even lanscape photos! Not much distortion 18-24mm, but a bit soft and distortion towards 200mm. About f/8 and 11, it shines best!2. A perfect companion for one-lens-only trips say, Swiss Alps, Paris, London, Alaska, even Disney, etc!3. It will render pretty vivid colors for your Fall-color trips, and beach trips as well. If you are all for hikings. This one is a must without breaking your back or neck!4. For this price, I must say it's an upgrade from general use, and a less perfect one for professional works for sale to your clients. Yet you might produce good ones for sale with this lens, if you know how to make best out of it!5. One more lens you need besides this can be Nikon 12-24 (it is a pro lens, though about [$] range for both used and new ones). I will say 18-200 for 90% of the time, 12-24 for the rest 10%.All in all, you will not regret to spend [$] for this lens whatsoever! Remember it was a kit lens for D200, also you can put this to D40 or D40X. What a compact combination for your all-day walk-around for a pure enjoyment!A possible scenario for this lens:1. Either D 40 or D 40X with this lens for all day walk-around or travel companion. It's more than a back-up body and lens combo! You will produce a stunning photos with this kind of combo.2. D200 with 12-24 for a serious photos for sale to your clints!Hope this helps somebody out there.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
Love the lens, compact and allows me to shoot under low light conditions, great for taking pictures of my children at play or in the early evening outside, it has a great range 18-200mm. Very happy with it, it is worth the wait to order (mine took 4 months). My only complaint about this lens is that if you let the lens hang down it will creep all the way from 18mm to 200mm. I am very happy with the VR, great all around lens!
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
Not a PRO & never had or tried a VR-I lens. Didn't buy VR-I due to reports. Use D100 & shoot with different filters (CP, NDs, etc.) Let friends use before they bought it (or did not) and covered bunch of different cameras (80, 70, etc), environments, conditions, test cases to see what it can do (Engineers, what u expect!?), etc... (Weddings, indoor/outdoor parties, landscapes, sunsets/rises, lowlight, etc). They reported similar/same results. Don't recall when I ordered it but it was shortly after it was released as pre/early orders and people/PROs did initial review. Why I waited so long for this review... provided reviews/comments at other sites a while ago & it was just confirming what others (especially known PROs) already reported, winning $ will help pay photography addiction.
Overall=good. Still don't think it is the ultimate lens... From hand-held perspective, lens is kind of like what I get with my point-shoot cameras (don't consider the 'camera' and it's capabilities itself)... you almost always get a good picture when kept within capabilities and limits. I still do "serious" shooting with a tripod (& usually other lenses)... accept no other options, why settle for less or chance you may get 1 'okay' shot with hand-held low-light? Major issues: [1] out of box/new 'shipped from Nikon' [at least that was my understanding at ordering], mine creeps (zoom slips if lens not held horizontal, didn't even need to shake test it) even before I let my friends use it but I blame them anyways ;-) & is fustrating for some shots as well as just protecting (an expensive) lens when not taking photos. A little looser now that had it for a while. This was reported by some users right from start when researching; however, never clear how bad. yep, guess it wasn't bad enough to return the lens. [2] Both ends of lens' range is weak (image sharpness/distortions) but should be expected (unfortunately, no such thing as a miracle lens, yet). Here and if go to other sites, found similar reports. Interesting notes and instructions comes with lens for different camera models (expected settings to be same for all Nikons), and setting instructions for tripod use. Would have like to seen those instructions before I bought it. Revealed conditions about this lens as well as cammeras. Shouldn't be surprised that info was not identified on sites when I was doing my research.
Still like my nikon 70-300 (think it has better glass, coating, and overall quality... had it from film days) except I can be closer to subj with the 18-200.
When it comes down to it, no one knows what lens you use unless you let them know (in file or tell). If you enjoy photography and have $ you might like the lens.

I have waited for this lens for some time now and it was well worth the wait! I have it on a D40 and the picture quality is amazing. I love the fact that I may never have to switch lenses again! Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
As a working professional of 35 years I have waited for the lens good enough to free me from carrying a four lens bag and now I have it. I carry a one lens holster and this is the lens. I call it the Obie Wan lens because it keeps telling me to go for the shots that I KNOW are impossible - 1/6 second handheld nighshots from a moving boat, 200mm panning shots at a hockey game at 1/30th. 35 years experience tells me that those shots are a waste of time. My Obie Wan lens says "what's the problem". It amazes me everyday and I haven't enjoyed shooting this much in years.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
This is easily the best travel lens ever made. The range is incredible and the VR allows you to hand hold the camera at surprisingly low shutter speeds. The optics quality overall is pretty good.
IMO, it is a little weak at both ends but that shouldn't be a surprise. It is not often you get the chance to have a range of 18-200mm in one lens. This quickly became my workhorse lens. I use others for specialty types of photos but for general work, it is simply outstanding.
Yeah, there is still a long wait for the lens but it is so worth the wait.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
Not as great as I thought it would be. Absorbs more light light than a black hole, which means forget about taking photos without a flash even in a moderately well lit room.
Still, a very versatile and useful lens, and the VR works very nicely. Somewhat recommended.

Cant say enough about this lens! Use it with both the D80 and D200, and could not be happier. AF is fast and quiet, VR works great, I was taking handheld shots in Egypt last fall at 1.3s that turned out beautifully. If you need a faster lens the 70-200mm 2.8 VR is great, but like all fast lenses--you will pay for it. I have had people tell me that the indoor performance isn't always the best--again with the lens speed thing, but I am primarily (99.95%) an outdoor photographer--so I cant speak to this specific flaw. For my purposes and my money this is a great way to go!

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
A camera is only as good as its lens. Most camera bodies are quite good nowadays, so my advice would be: spend a little less on your body, a little more on your lens. If you can't afford a D80 and a great lens, get a D50. The lens makes the camera.
Turn your camera into a force of nature and go with the nikkor 18-200VR lens. It's not cheap, almost as much as a D80 itself, but it's sharp as a tack through the entire range (I don't see the wide open softness others mention), and it has VR or vibration reduction, which actually enhances your camera's ability to take pictures in lower light (you can shoot at lower ISOs with less shake, and therefore, improved sharpness).
Add that to the fact that you can shoot really wide angle and impressive zoom all in one lens, and you've built yourself an enviable photo package without having to lug a ton of gear around. The lens is so good, and Nikon's production speed so poor, that there's a 6-month waiting list for the lens. But it's well worth the wait. You don't have to change lenses all the time to get the focal length you want, which is why the 18-200 is also called the perfect traveler's lens.

Best big zoom lens ever made. good picture quality all along.
VR is powerful! you can get clear picture as slow as 1/6s at 200mm.
This lens can also function as a macro lens coz of the short focus distance.

Great all around Lens with 11x Zoom coverage, lightweight and VR capacity makes a excellent general purpose Lens... Gives you the opportunity to take advantage of many differant types of Grab A Shot Opportunities. The VR enables you to really push the limits in low light situations....Has some zoom creep especially when walking around wth camera..Small price to pay Great all around Lens
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
Don't let the small maximum apeture scare you away: this lens has replaced my 70 - 200 2.8. The VR capability and small size make the the best overall lens for genera use. I have used it with my D50 for documenting existing conditions for my work (building/construction design) and of course pleasure. This lens is hard to find, but well worth the wait.
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
Great lens for many uses (I am sure Nikon intended it that way!). I use it for sports and have found it to be fast and sharp. I have had no instances where the lens is less sharp. It is light, quick and very quiet. One of the big surprises of this lens is how quiet it is. In dark scenes it occasionally hunts for focus, but overall focus performance is better then other Nikon lenses I use (24-120 zoom, 180 fixed). The zoom ring seems to turn the wrong way, counterintuitive to my sense, but that is the only nit I can pick about this lens.
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
great all around lens. Sharp images and fast focusing. Does not seem to reduce battery life. One thing to note is that at 18mm, the lens can cast a shadow from the on board flash (D50).
It's the one lense you can use for most of your needs.
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
This lens is excellent for most applications. It is easy to handle and the vibration reduction feature makes it extremely useful at long focal lengths and slow shutter speeds without a tripod. [...]
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
The lens is excellent, providing good sharpness throughout its approximately 11x range. The little barrel/pincushion distortion it produces can easily be corrected in Photoshop or other photo enhancement program. It is reasonably lightweight for its range and focusses quite close up. It allows most hobby photographers to use the single lens for all their work work, greatly reducing the frequency at which the camera's sensor must be cleaned, and is versatile enough to provide for most of a professional's needs.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
Great all around lens. It was the only lens I used on a week long trip to the Carribean. The VR makes in huge difference by allowing you to use slower shutters in low light and it helps reduce blur from camera shake.

VR works wonderfully. Fast focus. Great range for all around photography.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
With an 11x range this can be the only lens you'll ever need. It's very sharp at f8-f11 while somewhat soft wide open and fully stopped down. If you leave the lens hanging down, it will creap out from the 18mm position out to 200mm. But don't let this deter you! These are only minor and are probably the only glitches this lens has. It does enable you to take great pictures and reduces the chances of missing a shot because you either had the wrong lens on the camera or were in the process of changing lenses when the moment went away. I've shot at night at 200mm 1/30th f5.6 with VR on and got very sharp, detailed results. VR simply works great handheld with slow shutter speeds.

[...]Very quiet, fast focus. Excellent range of focal length. The VR II vibration reduction works great. Going from wide angle to tele in a split second will free you up to capture those shots you've missed changing lenses. The perfect lens? You'll be hard pressed to find flaws. Just get one!

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
This lens is very fast and very sharp. With excellent vibration reduction, this lens will let you take those long shots in low light. With such a low low-end focal length, it also makes a great general purpose lens.
It's light-weight and compact, and if you have the standard 18-80mm lens that comes with most kits, you'll probably start leaving it at home once you own this one.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens:
A great lens. I bought it[...] in June of this year. I then used it on an 18-day trip to Southern Africa this last summer attached to my D70s. This lens focuses very fast and silently, is very sharp, and is the lens I used about 60 percent of the time on this trip. The other lens I used is my 80-400VR Nikkor for the longer shots of more elusive animals.
If you can have only one lens, get the 18-200VR; it's that good. It also exhibits no bokeh or ghosting; and I shot several times right into the sun getting some beautiful sunset shots over the Zambezi river and the Okavango Delta. I blew up all of my shots for this trip to 12" x16" and they all turned out fabulous.
It's a very good "walking around" lens. It's very light and compact and doesn't exhibit any noticeable barrel distortion or pincushioning, and this thing has an 11x zoom range! I am now using it on my newly-acquired D200 and I'll be buying another one so my wife can use it on her D70s that I just handed down to her.
Incidentally, it focuses so fast that it keeps up with my D200 in it's five-frames-per-second mode on fast-moving objects. That's about all you can ask of it.
