Standard lens featuring superb quality and portability. Two high-refraction lens elements and new Gaussian optics eliminate astigmatism and suppress astigmatic difference. Crisp images with little flare are obtained even at the maximum aperture.

Comments about Canon Canon 50mm EF f/1.4 USM Lens:

Great lens, its a must for indoor use, particularly with portrait type shots. The bokeh is silky smooth and predictable. Sharpness is excellent, of course down to f/1.4 its really narrow, which is to be expected, but that wide lets you catch a lot of things you otherwise could not. The step from 1.4 vs the cheaper canon 1.8 is not all that huge practically since I rarely use 1.4 since its so shallow, but having it is nice.
The real things that make this the lens of choice over the cheaper f/1.8 is first and foremost the manual override in autofocus mode, its such a great feature on this lens, especially at wide aperture where you need to be really precise where you center the focus.
The metal mount is nice as well, and the lens is more rugged than the 1.8, but still very light. I almost never take it off my camera, its so flexible and the focal length is just right in many cases.

Great option for a first upgrade lens, my other lenses are the Canon Kit lenses that you can get with the T2i, they are ok, but not anywhere near as fast as this lens. I am just getting into DSLRs so I was unwilling to pay the high cost of a fast zoom lens, and I am so happy I got this for a fraction of the price of an f/2.8 zoom and have more stops. Love this lens, considering just selling off my kit zooms since I almost never use them now! Resale value of the lens is spectacular as well if I ever do upgrade, though I dont see what I would get instead and dont plan to sell this lens anytime soon.

Comments about Canon Canon 50mm EF f/1.4 USM Lens:

I mostly use the 50mm "nifty 50" lens as it is called, for portraits. I've also used it for weddings with great results. I love this lens. I love the clarity, the colors it produces, and also how lightweight it is. It is also very affordable.
