Three people I work with have bought this camera and we all have had a great experience with this camera so far. It was so easy to set up and the video it came with really helped me with what settings to use and when. I thought I was going to be intimidated by this camera, but it is so easy. I can't wait to order some blown up pics that I have taken of my kids.

I have used the camera for a few weeks now. Although I still consider myself a beginner, the 3100 is great as it allows you to start learning your aperture/shutter speeds without having to immediately go full manual. The VR (Vibration Reduction) really does help with camera shake. Try turning it off and on and take some zoomed pics at a distance. The SB600 flash is also a great accessory (sold separately), allowing you to soften the flash by bouncing it off walls or the ceiling rather than directly toward the subject, eliminating dark shadows behind and skin reflection you may not want. I always use the eye-finder so the live action lcd screen has not been used at all, except in taking video. The ease of turning it on though means I will likely use it on occasion in the future for low to the ground macro shots or such. Sometimes the menus get a little overwhelming, and a few more "direct function buttons" would be nice, but it will just take some getting used to finding items and navigating menus. All in All a great product, I would recommend, and I look forward to the birth of my first child in a few months so I can go picture happy with the baby pics!

Love this camera! Used the older model D40 but missed the video. This one is great to use anywhere and anytime. Quick and easy to operate. Pictures are incredible and video too. Easy to swap lenses.

We wanted a camera that didn't have the delay of our current point and shoot. We went on a cruise in June and I have alot of pics of water where the whales "were" because of the delay. We started our research when we got home and a new camera became a must when our daughter had her first soccer season with similar results as the whales. My niece recommended the Nikon brand and helped me choose the right model. It's been great since day one and the "How to Video" was a huge help making the camera not quite so intimidating. Very user friendly for even the most basic of beginners like me. (Even my husband is enjoying taking pictures with it.) I'm truely happy to not be "missing" any more moments. Thank you Nikon!

I have a background with Canon film SLRs and found the switch to DSLR and a new brand to be pretty seamless. I compared the D3100 to similar Canons and the D3100 just seems to be the best bang for the buck for what I was interested in. For the beginner it offers "presets" for photos specific to landscape, kids, portrait, etc. For the more experienced, it has much more "tunability" than a point and shoot. The info button on the camera can help tremendously if you don't have the manual close by. We got a training DVD with our D3100 and it was very easy to understand other than having to pause the DVD to try to keep up with the presenter. If you get the camera and are still confused, the DVD should offer great pointers from settings, to personal technique for taking great shots.

I am a new user to the DSLR realm with this being my first DSLR camera and I couldn't be more happy with it. The camera is easy to use and there are plenty on manuals and instructional videos online to teach you to take better pictures. I've had it for about a month and have taken it to a football tournament I was playing in. The continuous shutter action is great. The pictures are clear and the ability to zoom in real time and adjust the pictures on the fly is great.

Excellent alternate camera, or for first venture into DSLR photography. Camera is easy to use right from the box. Guide mode is useful in the field to provide tips on how to shoot difficult shots. No need to carry around a book.
Video is responsive, and with autofocus, makes shooting easy. Highly recommend for the newbie or for the seasoned photographer.

I love this camera with a burning passion-- takes incredible photos, the features actually do what they say they will. As it's an entry-level DSLR, it could be a tad more self-explanatory, but otherwise it's fantastic. Highly reccomend it.

I'm a recreational photographer who wanted better pictures than my point and shoot camera. Very happy so far with the ease of use, shutter speed, and picture quality. I've used film SLR in the past but this is my first DSLR so I cannot compare to other models. I can definitely say I am happy with this purchase.

I purchased this camera as an upgrade from a digital point and shoot. THis is my first dSLR. I did research prior to this model becoming available and I preordered the 3100 in August. This is an incredible camera! Right out of the box, I was able to pick it up and use it with no trouble! It has a "Guide Mode" which helps you to choose the right settings for the type of shot you are tyring to take. This is very helpful for a dSLR newbie. As one learns how to program the camera, the guide mode will become obsolete, but helpful right out of the gate! The pictures I have taken so far are amazing! I am just so happy with this camera! I have not spent a lot of time on using the video mode, however. What I have tried of it is not very good. I am not sure if this is just because I am getting to know the camera or if this is the way the video will work all the time- but when I transfer the movie files to my PC, they are all choppy and hard to watch. Hopefully I will figure out how to use that function, since it is very convient to have the full HD video. One more thing- I thought I would use the live view viewfinder to actually take photos...but it is too slow and not as easy as I thought...better to use the viewfinder. Overall I am very happy with this camera and would recommend it to anyone!
