I had an old laptop that I needed to get data from. The screen was dead, but an external monitor let me see that it would still boot. However the USB was down, there was no network port, and the cd drive was only a reader.
This adapter allowed me to install the laptop's hard drive as a secondary drive in a working PC and move the data to the primary for backup.
It is an easy adapter to use and would allow the use of an IDE laptop hard drive as a permanent install in a standard PC.
