The Olympus EVOLT E-510 digital SLR with two-lens outfit is a great camera to help you evolve as a photographer. Only Olympus digital SLRs are engineered to be 100-percent digital. Simply put, this means your pictures will have stunning edge-to-edge sharpness that can''t be beat. Olympus'' Live View LCD technology is a unique feature that enhances your picture-taking experience. Whatever life brings, whatever you''re photographing, you''ll capture colorful memories with the E-510''s proven Dust Reduction System and powerful, 10-megapixel imager.

Your Life In Live View - Olympus innovated Live-View LCD screens on their digital SLRs to make your shooting experience better. Olympus trusts what their customers have told them and they''ve learned that Live View technology will enrich your photography experience in any situation, from any angle.

What You See Is What You Get - While you''re shooting at the zoo on a sunny day you''ll want to clearly see what''s on your Live View screen. With the E-510, you can preview and review photos on a high-resolution, 2.5-inch HyperCrystal LCD. You''ll see the screen with amazing clarity in bright sunlight and from angles up to 176 degrees.

Searching For Stability? - You''re in a car. Or on a boat. Keeping the camera still is difficult. With the E-510''s sensor-shift image stabilization, your pictures will come out clear. Inside, a gyro sensor tracks the image while the camera automatically adjusts for the motion. And the image stabilization mode can be activated to assist you in low light settings. Blurriness is minimized or even eliminated, and because it is in the body it works will all of the lenses, not just a few.

More Storage Options Than Granny''s Attic - The EVOLT E-510 has two memory slots that hold Compact Flash Type I and Type II, Microdrive and xD picture cards. Use the dual slot design to transfer images you want to save from one card to another. Manage your memories better.

Images As Big As Life - Get sharp, high-resolution and high-quality photos regardless of the print size with the E-510''s 10-megapixel Live-MOS imaging sensor.

No Dust, No Doubt About It - Don''t let the elements stop you, even when it''s windy and dusty. When most cameras get a speck of dust on their imager, problems ensue. Not with the E-510 and its proven Dust Reduction System. It eliminates dust for spotless photos that you don''t need to touch up.

Olympus Zuiko Lenses Made For The Digital Age - Using the Olympus E-System, with the largest selection of lenses designed specifically for digital photography, you''re sure to get your most memorable shots. Whether you''re zooming on the kids, or snapping wide-angle wedding shots, your pristine Zuiko Digital lens is going to get the job done.

It is not always easy to use an optical viewfinder - in a crowd you can''t see over the heads of those around you, and low angle close-ups can be hard to reach. With the E-510, you have another option - use the Live-View LCD screen to preview and review photos. And you''ll see the screen with amazing clarity from almost any angle.

The high-resolution, 2.5-inch HyperCrystal LCD screen (230,000 pixels) means you can compose your shots easily, even outside in sunlight.

Advanced Image Stabilization keeps your images sharp even when the camera is moving. The E-510 uses Olympus'' sensor-shift image stabilization technology to counter the effect of camera shake. The exclusive Supersonic Wave Drive motors provide two modes of accurate high-speed image stabilization. One mode provides blur-free photography for everyday situations like low-light settings. The other mode helps capture clear images even while panning during action shots. Olympus'' Image Stabilization technology is built into the body of the E-510 so it works with every lens, unlike legacy film technologies built into the lenses.

Keep dust spots off your photos. The Olympus dust reduction system is an industry first and a proven technology. Every time you turn on the E-510, our Supersonic Wave Filter - located between the shutter and the image sensor - silently vibrates an amazing 35,000 times per second. Dust is shaken away. You can take full advantage of all the benefits of Olympus SLR cameras and change lenses anywhere without worrying about dust.

You''ll see more details and you''ll get stunning color in all your photos with the 10-megapixel Live-MOS image sensor. Create large prints, even after cropping.

Portable, easy-to-handle body with grip design. The body is ergonomically designed for superior comfort. If you use a long lens, the E-510 feels balanced.

Olympus'' digital-specific Zuiko lenses provide edge-to-edge pixel-perfect clarity. Unlike older film lenses, these advanced, precision-engineered 100-percent digital lenses are designed to work perfectly with the camera''s digital technology. The result? Your photos will have exceptional color and clarity. All Zuiko lenses are compatible with all Olympus digital SLR cameras.

You''ll find 29 exposure modes including 10 advanced modes and 19 Easy to Use Scene Select Modes. Simply select the right mode for your shot. The easy to use Scene Select Modes make you an instant expert, even with the most demanding shots. Choose from any of the 19 selections like Fireworks, Beach or Snow. The E-510 takes care of the rest.

Get a great shot in any lighting situation with five metering modes including spot metering and the new 49-point ESP Meter.

The E-510 provides the flexibility of two memory slots that hold Compact Flash Type I and Type II, Microdrive and xD picture cards.

With the E-510 two-lens outfit you have an additional lens to round out your photographic opportunities.

Both lenses are exceptionally compact, allowing unimpeded mobility. They are sized for comfortable handling and designed for maximum image quality at an excellent price. Most important, these new lenses have the world-renowned ED lenses that deliver stunning high-quality images.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-510 DSLR Camera w/Two Digital Lens Kit (14-42mm / 40-150mm):

I just love this camera, I have not put it down yet. I took this camera to Hawaii and got stunning shots of the rainbows and sunsets.
It is so user friendly, controls are easy seeing as this is my first slr.

The night time shots are stunning with user friendly menus, like a point and shoot camera with all the other extras included. Then f system lens makes a beginner like me look like a pro.

someone mistaken this camera for a Nikkon, but I said no, Then they saw the Olympus name and was stunned. Especially seeing the types of shots that was taken from a first time slr user.

Love the active screen, big and setting up the shots is a breeze.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-510 DSLR Camera w/Two Digital Lens Kit (14-42mm / 40-150mm):

I got this outfit very reasonable, I immediatly fell in love with it. I searched other cameras and conpared all the features, I almost pruchased the Pentax E10 , and the olympus had the view lcd and the canon did not, but the pics were absloutely the best of both cameras I had ever seen. I shoot alot of weddings in my business so I need a camera I can view thru the lcd and avoid headaches from looking thru the eyepieceas with the canon. Any how I have taken olympus out this past weekend and done some shots, played around witht the features. The closeup mode is awesome, sports mode is great. I can't enough about this camera I am very happy with it and the zoom lens as well. I also purchased the olympusfl-36 external flash with the swivel headand it is just awesome. built in flash is good, but the exteranl adds a bit more soften look to your pics and you don;t have to worry at all about low light not taking with this one.. great shots. [...] you won't regret it.I recommend you also use with photos Photo Imapact for touchups and editing and you are all set to take Pics like a pro. I hope this info helped. Good luck with yours.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-510 DSLR Camera w/Two Digital Lens Kit (14-42mm / 40-150mm):

This is my 3rd year with Olympus and my 2nd camera, I moved to this model for the much improved High ISO and Body Image stabilization.

I'm a Hobbyist/Freelance Photographer, I have shot wedding, nature, landscape, portraits, macro, and just general home use.

What attracted me to this brand and model is the great features, like, image stabilization, live view, improved low noise at High ISO, the supersonic wave filter to remove dust from the sensor, and the continued Four-Thirds technology.

With image stabilization in the camera it saves the cost of special lenses and the weight and size of a specialty IS lens, the 510 keeps compact and light, and the ability of IS with any fourthirds lens.

Since the E1 and models that followed High ISO was an issue, now with the new sensor in the 510 the ISO levels above 400 have been greatly improved. I've used 800 without need of after touch up, and 1600 is usable with the right settings and some light touch up. These higher ISO come handy when a tripod is not available and scenes are not providing good light.

Live view is a feature thats really loved with macro shoots. Not only can you gain a live view of the image, but you can zoom the screen up to 10x to make sure you really have that focus! In regular use the Live view shouldn't replace your view finder, but it comes in handy for checking your white balance, histogram, and current settings for pre judgment.

Changing settings on this camera is all done through the back screen, a press of the "ok" and then using the arrows to highlight your chosen setting and using the dial to adjust. After some time it becomes simple and snappy. Quicker access is using the arrows themselves, giving you direct access to WB, AF, Metering, ISO.

With Fourthirds being half that of a 35mm you are having a smaller sensor, this is what allows compact design with smaller lenses without loss of performance in light. This also brings the camera with an effect that doubles the strength of attached lenses, so example, a 50-200mm = 100-400mm. What is effected is the Dynamic Range, while the camera brings out amazing photos, it can blow out your whites if you don't pay attention.

If you are a beginner, amateur, or curious to DSLR, the 510 and it's great features will not disappoint. More advanced photographers can and have and do enjoy these cameras as well, as their primary or as a back up. Pro end photographers might want to look over to the Olympus E-3.

This being my current Primary Camera, I hope for it to last as long as possible, I've not been disappointed and it helps me take the shots I want. If I had to replace it with the same I wouldn't hesitate.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-510 DSLR Camera w/Two Digital Lens Kit (14-42mm / 40-150mm):

I have had the E-510 for a week now and I have spent some time experimenting with it. I am no great shakes as a photographer but this camera makes an expert out of a pure amateur. I have been photgraphing birds at our feeder and subjects around the house so my use is somewhat limited. I have used the software that came with the camera for editing and it does a great job. I also use Googles Picasa which does an excellent job with my photos but they have not required a tremendous amount of editing.

All in all, a great buy for me both in price and quality.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-510 DSLR Camera w/Two Digital Lens Kit (14-42mm / 40-150mm):

I was given this camera as a gift for Christmas by my wife. I had been shopping for a Canon Rebel XTI or higher, but I was pleasantly surprised by the features and quality of this camera. I've also been pleased with an Olympus OM1 that still works after 31 years. Apparently my relationship with Olympus will continue.
PS: I can also use those old Olympus lenses with this camera if I purchase the adapter.

Olympus 510 vs. Canon Rebel XTi
By SnoopVerified Reviewer from OH on 12/9/2007

High Quality, Image Stablization
Cons:
Expensive

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-510 DSLR Camera w/Two Digital Lens Kit (14-42mm / 40-150mm):

The biggest advantage to this camera vs. the Canon Rebel is that it has IMAGE STABLIZATION built into the camera standard whereas only the more expensive LENSES from Canon have the same feature.
