Nikon introduces the new D60 digital SLR camera, to provide stunning picture quality and versatility in an easy-to-use, compact camera design. The New D60 Digital SLR joins Nikon's award-winning line of D-series digital SLR cameras and shares a form similar to the D40 ? Nikon's smallest D-SLR camera ever. With 10.2 effective megapixels and a wealth of innovative and user-friendly features, the D60 enables both photo enthusiasts and those new to digital SLR photography to capture incredible images like never before.

Nikon D60 Features at a Glance

  • Extraordinary 10.2-Megapixel DX-format Nikon Picture Quality
  • Includes AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR (Vibration Reduction) Lens
  • Fast Startup and Split-Second Shutter Response
  • Shoots Continuously at up to 3 Frames per Second
  • Active Dust Reduction System with Airflow Control
  • Easy Operation with Intuitive Controls
  • Up to 500 Pictures per Battery Charge
Based on CIPA battery testing standards
  • Bright, 2.5-Inch Color LCD Monitor with 170-Degree Wide-Angle Viewing
  • Nikon's Smallest Digital SLR Ever!
  • Automatic Exposure with 8 Digital Vari-Program Scene Modes
  • In-Camera Editing Functions

Users will immediately appreciate the D60's fast 0.18-second start-up time and split-second shutter response, which combine to eliminate the frustration of shooting lag ? a common issue with many point-and-shoot digital cameras. With a fast and accurate autofocus and the ability to shoot continuously at up to three pictures-per-second, the D60 faithfully captures pictures that other cameras often miss. The D60 does all this while delivering extraordinarily vivid and detailed pictures, ensuring that fleeting expressions, special moments and memorable events are captured beautifully.

Packaged with Nikon's new AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR image stabilization lens, the D60 camera and lens outfit delivers striking image sharpness. What's more, Nikon's proprietary VR (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization technology also dramatically reduces blur caused when shooting handheld pictures, especially in low light.

The camera's 10.2 megapixel CCD sensor delivers crisp, high-resolution images with astounding color and clarity, while Nikon's advanced 3-D Color Matrix Metering II ensures that images are exposed beautifully and automatically, even in challenging lighting conditions. Additionally, Nikon's new digital image processing concept, EXPEED, delivers smooth tones and accurate color for vibrant pictures and flattering portraits.

The D60 also offers consumers comprehensive in-camera functionality, such as Active D-lighting. Through this innovative Nikon feature, the camera can, with the option selected, further optimize shadow and highlight detail?as pictures are taken. Shots that once required adjustment with photo editing software can now go straight to the printer, bypassing the computer altogether.

For added fun and creativity while reducing or helping to eliminate time spent manipulating pictures later, the D60's In-camera Retouch Menu enables users to accomplish a wide variety of tasks without a computer. The D60 offers new in-camera editing capabilities, including adjustable cross-screen star effects, color-intensifying filters as well as D-lighting, Red-eye correction, Image Trim and more. The D60's Stop-Motion Movie mode is a D-SLR first that enables users to create stop-animation movie clips from a series of as many as 100 consecutive JPEG picture files. More experienced photographers will also enjoy shooting in the lossless NEF (RAW) format, and then adjusting image parameters, such as size, format, and white balance, all within the camera.

While many cameras now feature a dust cleaning function, the D60 takes this idea one step further. In addition to offering an Image Sensor Cleaning function that quickly and silently shakes off specks of image degrading dust, the camera also minimizes the dust that can come into contact with the sensor through a unique Airflow Control System. This design works to channel particles away from the sensor with every click of the shutter, resulting in even further reduction of dust particles and the spots they can leave on pictures.

Ergonomically designed with intuitively placed controls, the D60 is a camera that's compact and ready to go wherever life leads. It also features a new power conserving Eye Sensor that turns the big 2.5-inch color LCD monitor on and off automatically when the user alternates between taking pictures and reviewing camera settings.

A customizable LCD monitor user interface rounds out the D60's convenient features, as users can create their own wallpapers and adjust color settings to adapt to their preferences. The D60's design also supports Eye-Fi memory card functionality, enabling the convenient wireless transfer of images from the D60 to a computer, when using Eye-Fi memory cards.* Additionally, photos can be securely written to readily available SD cards, high-capacity SDHC cards and Eye-Fi memory cards, offering users a range of data storage options.

Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55MM F/3.5-5.6G VR Lens
Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55MM F/3.5-5.6G VR Lens offers Nikon's proprietary Vibration Reduction (VR) technology to help consumers snap sharper photos than ever before, even while shooting handheld. Compact and lightweight, this affordable lens is an optimum lens to use with Nikon DX-format digital SLR cameras and is the ideal focal length as a first lens to faithfully capture life's day-to-day moments, or a welcome addition to a Nikon D-SLR photographer's already-established lens assortment.

From family gatherings to sunny vacation beaches, the NIKKOR 18-55mm VR lens produces stunning results with vivid color and incredible sharpness. The 3x optical zoom offers users of Nikon DX-format D-SLR cameras including the D40, D40x, D80 and new D300 with a versatile picture angle perspective ranging from wide angle for dramatic landscapes and interiors, to moderate telephoto that is ideal for flattering portraits.

Beyond the lens' incredible optical versatility is the amazing benefit of Nikon's VR technology, which enables photographers to take substantially sharper handheld pictures at slower shutter speeds than would otherwise be possible. This provides the distinct advantage of being able to shoot more effectively in a much broader variety of challenging conditions. Nikon's VR system affords users the ability to take pictures at shutter speeds up to three stops slower* than they ordinarily could shoot without the image-degrading blur caused by camera shake at slow shutter speeds.

Nikon 55-200 mm F/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Nikkor Lens
The new AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED brings far-away subjects to the photographer without the burden of carrying a large telephoto lens. Zooming in on those elusive action shots at soccer or baseball games will fill the frame with images that would be otherwise impossible to capture. Its impressive zoom range of 55-200mm allows users the versatility to capture everything from razor-sharp candid portraits to sports, nature and even wildlife pictures. Despite its long zoom range, the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 55- 200mm f/4-5.6G ED is remarkably compact and lightweight, and proves to be a formidable companion to the instant responsiveness and the impressive speed of the new D40 digital SLR camera.

To ensure outstanding optical performance, thid lens also features Nikon's exclusive Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass to minimize chromatic aberrations, and Silent Wave Motor technology (SWM) for fast, quiet auto- focusing. All of Nikon's DX Nikkor lenses are optimized for the DX format sensors found in all Nikon digital SLR cameras, making the lens smaller, lighter and with exceptional center-to-edge-to-corner image quality and performance.

  • Versatile and ultra-compact with a powerful focal length range of 55-200mm designed exclusively for Nikon DX format SLRs, this is an ideal 3.6X zoom lens for portraiture, sports or wildlife.
  • An excellent companion to the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED.
  • New compact rod-type Silent Wave Motor (SWM) enables ultra-high speed autofocusing with exceptional accuracy and super-quiet operation.
  • Nikon Super Integrated Coating minimizes ghosting and flare to provide even higher contrast and more vivid images, even in challenging light conditions.
  • Two ED glass elements achieve minimized chromatic aberration and superior optical performance.
  • Focus Mode switch enables quick-switching between A (Autofocus) and M (Manual Focus).
  • 9-blade rounded diaphragm for more natural out-of-focus highlights.

Great Camera. I was getting great photos instantly and began expanding my own capabilities in a very short time. Great starter SLR with plenty of room to grow. Will take all Nikon lenses with limited functionality of some AF's but thats because the removed the AF motor from the body making it super light, if you dont mind focusing you can get a superlight travel setup.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D60 Digital SLR Two-Lens Outfit (18-55 VR & AF-S DX 55-200mm F/4-5.6G ED):

I am so pleased with the purchase of this camera! The only drawback is after many of years with digital camera, I'm not used to looking thru the viewfinder to take a picture! I have to retrain myself back to the old film SLR camera's I've had!! But, it is so easy to use! Has built in filters, built in red eye reduction that you can actually do to your picture after it has been taken!! WOW! But the most exciting thing about owning this camera...is when I now have a candid shot, I don't have to tell the subject to hold that pose while my camera focuses in and out then decided to take after I decide the picture is gone! You will be very PLEASED when you purchase this Nikon D60.

Excellent camera for anyone who wants to freeze those golden moments. I just bought this camera from Ritz store and I am very happy with my decision. People in their store really know the stuff and were very helpful. Previously, I was thinking of ordering from [...] but I finally decided to buy it from the store which gave me a little more confidence. Apart from this, they gave me very good competitive rate when I bought it as part of a package deal. The results of this camera will amaze you when you will take pictures. Here are some snapshots I took from this camera, and I am just a photo enthusiast. I just started shooting with SLR less than 7 days, so you can see and compare the results. Here is the link to my flickr site: [@]I heard from everyone that Canon and Nikon both are equally good, but I found the handling of Nikon better than Canon. Although it lacks some of the features and new enhancements of Canon XSi, Nikon D60 gave me very good pictures. There is a very good website to compare the results of the pictures taken by various cameras at [@] I used their comparometer feature to compare results from various cameras in the same settings and I could see that Nikon results are much natural than any other. See for yourself at [@] I am giving 5 stars to the camera.

I took pictures for my brother's wedding and was surprised that most every picture came out usable. For the most part I'm still using auto controls, but I've been really happy about how the pictures come out. It is very simple to use (my first DSLR). It's a really good camera to start with. And from what I can see and for my purposes, I have no reason to get a better one.

This is the best camera I have had yet!
I give it only 4 stars because nothing is perfect. I guess that is why we take pictures of our imperfect world. Isn't that great?
This camera will allow even the novice of Photographers to get a great start in the business. I let my son of 14 use my camera (under supervision $$$$ ) and had great results. I recomend that anyone that wants the best camera on the market to get a D60 even if you are starting out! Yes there is a lot to learn about the camera, but you can get the best pictures you will have EVER taken!
With Halloween just around the corner you will want to capture even the most evasive Ghosts. With the ability to take a low light picture even on the darkest of nights, mounting it on a tripod makes it easy to click the D60 with your remote and the "evasive Ghost" does't even see it coming!

I use this small DSLR for fun and it makes the session fun. I use it for sports and action and it adapts itself to the occasion. I want it to take pictures of small things and it does micro-photography. What else you want it for - these are the extremes - and it does it very well if not the best.
Great for beginners - you can actually explore all possible ways to develop your photo-skills.
The kit lens is nice and suits many requirements of photography learning. It is noise-free and quickly focuses. I saw it get a focus even in very very low light (almost dark) conditions - thanks to Nikkor technology.
I definitely recommend photo-enthusista to try and buy this product. I'm almost sure you will never get dissatisfied. If you are shaky in decision for buying a piece of camera body just go to Wolf camera or Ritz Camera and there are nice people to help you out. many of the times they have nice deals.

I pinpointed this product after a lot of reasonable research and bought it finally after the Wolf Camera salesman put a great deal on it. The camera is great and takes fantastic pictures and lets you expand your artistry and imagination. It is a good idea to invest in lens and not think of the body anymore unless you are doing serious sports photography. The controls are great and probably better than its competitors. It is light and easy to carry and hence you do not need to plan specifically for the camera. The creative options are well organized in its firmware and hardware. Nikon lenses are very sharp and its new VR technology is appealing. In short - buy it and enjoy. I definitely recommend photo-enthusiasts to have a look at this camera before you buy. You will feel your money is well spent (sorry, invested).

I love this camera and I am so glad that I got a great deal from Ritz Camera. The package is a great help for someone like me who is learning photography. I can really say that if you are a starter get the entire package no matter what the cost is...it really helped me. I would recommend this camera to anyone looking into first time photography. Even one of my friend, who owns the new Canon SLR was very impressed by the size and weight of the Nikon.

I've been wanting a DSL camera for awhile and have been shopping around before buying this Nikon. Finally took the plunge and decided on the D60. I was overwelmed by shutter speeds and all being a new camera user. Decided to take a class in photography. Since then this camera has been a breeze to use and I'm sooo... happy with this the results of my efforts. I have nothing but good things to say about the D60. Only bad thing about this product is that I'm still waiting for my gadget bag after 2 weeks.

If you want to upgrade from a point and shoot or a 35mm this is the beat deal around, everything you need to get started and take great pictures. The only additional item you would need to get is a good sturdy tripod. I shopped a great deal both in stores and online and could not find a better deal for the money.

I understand the limitations of the lenses, but also understand the affordability of what I purchased compared to the high-end, professional set ups. This works well and I know someday, I'll be able to upgrade to better lenses, etc.

Love this camera! My first digital SLR. I have been using digital only for inconsequential photos and stuck to film for pictures that I felt were more "important". This Nikon is just as reliable as my film SLR and easier to use. The onscreen overlay and retouching are great. I highly recommed this camera to all those doubtfuls still clinging to film.

This was a good value, purchasing the complete kit. However, as noted earlier, I wish I had purchased the 2oommVR lens, or better yet, the combined lens. I starts to be a problem changing the lens all the time. And closeups without the VR is always a problem.

The dvd's are extremely helpful especially if your someone like me that doesnt like to sit and read an instruction book. Nikon D60 is one the best camera I have ever used. The picture quality is amazing and its very easy to use. Its a bit a heavy to carry all the lenses and kit but to get high definition pictures its worth to carry that weight. I have sold all my old digital cameras because if you have this you don't need any other camera. Coming to the price, the price is very reasonable comparing with the other SLR camera's in the market.[...]. Finally I would say this camera rocks...You can take breath taking pictures with camera and you can explore your photographic side.Good luck guys...

The Nikon D60 is a fantastic camera. It takes great photos in all weather conditions with ease. I ordered the camera for an overseas trip and put it together in the airport and starting taking photos immediately. My entire family including 2 children were able to use this camera as easily as a point and shoot style. My husband who never likes to take photos was borrowing it throughout the trip. The D60 inspires anyone who uses it to learn and enjoy what a SLR camera can do without being overwhelmed by the controls. The display is easy to read and select from. What a great camera to move into from the point and shoot styles. It is less bulky than the D80 and easy to travel with. I have great photos in all types of weather including poor lighting and rain, the D60 still performed with ease. If you travel and want great photos this camera is perfect for even the novice photographer regardless of age.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D60 Digital SLR Two-Lens Outfit (18-55 VR & AF-S DX 55-200mm F/4-5.6G ED):

I am just getting into photography and absolutely love this camera. It was a toss up between the Canon and the Nikon which both got about the same reveiws. I got this package deal because of all the goodies for the price. The camera picks up colors that are just kinda blah to the naked eye, makes them bright and vivid. The multiple frames per sec shooting capability is fantastic for the navice looking to take some action shots. Only con is the bulkiness. I am just used to the smaller more compact point and shoot.

The perfect camera for baseball pictures. Close up on the mound and outfield alike. With the zoom lens you never miss a good play. And the pictures are the clearest and cleanest I've ever seen. I bought this camera because a friend of mine had it and when she gave me pictures she had taken, I couldn't believe how great they were.

Bought the kit on the Mother's Day special and think it was an excellent deal. I've watched both DVDs and gotten some good tips from them. The kit lens is quite good and I've gotten good pictures using manual as well as automatic controls. However, you really need a tripod for the zoom lens included in this kit. It's not VR. It's a very comfortable camera to use and I would definitely recommend it. The camera bag included in this kit is very well padded and I've taken it on airplanes without worrying about the camera getting crushed.

With the 2 lenses and the DVD's to point you in the right direction, how can you miss? It has the Nikon name behind it and the quality you expect from one of the industry leaders. I have had Nikon cameras in the past and plan to upgrade to more Nikons in the future. I believe that anyone could pick up this camera and start taking great pictures.

I was tired of point and shoot cameras. I have tried to talk my wife into an SLR for a couple years. She always wanted something that would fit her purse. I had a Minolta SLR when I was in college and first married.

Now I love using my camera again. It takes great shots and is easy to use. I am looking forward to my childrens sport seasons to try it on that. I have used it a lot hiking and taking pictures of my new grandchild. This is a great camera and I would buy it again. I paid the extra for the VR lenses.

I am really happy with this camera. It is my third digital in 7 years. I have kids who play sports and needed something fast. The shots I can get now are fantasic. I am even sharing them with parents of other players that I have gotten incredible shots of. My only issue so far is figuring out how to take a shot of the moon over water. Each one was blurry. Need to read up some more! But overall I love it.

When in my 20's I used a Pentex SLR and moved to a point and shoot but always missed the SLR features. I have had the Nikon D60 for a few months now and it is so much fun to use. I have surprised myself with what "I" can do with this camera. It is feature rich and most importantly results in high quality pictures. I take pictures of my grandchildren participating in sports and school activities. I just love this camera. The extra items in the outfit have been helpful - the DVDs gave me good ideas, and the 55-200mm lens makes the sports and action shots easier to get.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D60 Digital SLR Two-Lens Outfit (18-55 VR & AF-S DX 55-200mm F/4-5.6G ED):

This is a great package, I love it all. The camera, the two lenses, the bag, etc. I'll be reviewing them all separately but as for this package, it's a great deal. If you even buy the body with the standard lens, then try to buy the 55-200 later, you're going to spend more money in the long run. Not to mention, for beginners, the added DVDs are a big plus. I've watched one so far and while it didn't tell me anything I don't already know, it's packed full of information about the camera and how to use it. The camera bag is also a plus. It has a lot of room, a lot of pockets, plenty of space to store everything (except the DVDs, of course). I have to admit that it's not quite my style, but I am definitely using it and probably will be for some time.

I have used several different digital cameras and this one is the BEST ... I take stills as well as action shots on a regular basis and action shots are difficult to capture digitally... With three shots per second I can click continuous to get the "perfect shot" and the clarity is incredible. I have used this to get extreme sports shots and have been very successful... I am so excited at the prospect of using this camera for all my photography needs.

Having shot film for 40 years, I was reluctant to go digital (my Nikon F3-HP is family), especially given the long shutter lag times for cameras under $2,000. We took our brand new D60 on a fishing trip to Quebec and it performed magnificently. The images in fine JPG mode are superb and (esp using manual focus) the shooting is instantaneous. Am now messing around with RAW in iPhoto but the camera does an excellent job of exposure control and color balance in JPG mode. Making pictures is fun again.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D60 Digital SLR Two-Lens Outfit (18-55 VR & AF-S DX 55-200mm F/4-5.6G ED):

This camera has brought new excitement in photography for me. I have a Minolta X370 35mm camera that still works but I stopped using it years ago. You don't use all the film, leave it sit, forget whats on the film. Then you have to have it developed. I bought a point and shoot digital not long after I stopped using the X370 and I missed the flexibility of an SLR. Years later I bought a better digital point and shoot, better pictures, still not an SLR. Now I have the best of both worlds with a digital SLR. I have the camera about a week and have taken over 150 great pictures.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D60 Digital SLR Two-Lens Outfit (18-55 VR & AF-S DX 55-200mm F/4-5.6G ED):

This is a great package. The D60 is a smaller bodied camera so it is easier to carry around. Don't let the smaller size fool you however, it is a very capable camera with a lot of features. It will take some time to learn all it can do. The videos that come with the package are a good place to start. This package helps reduce some of those "start up" costs of buying a camera, such as a new bag. It would be nice if it would come with a filter to protect the lenses. I would buy it again.

Ordered camera on the internet.[...].Camera and lenses were packaged securely and well protected. The camera is well built and compact for a SLR and very comfortable to operate. The camera's smart card was not included in the package,so the camera could not be used upon receipt and an extra trip to the camera store was required before verifying that the camera was operating correctly. The packing slip did not indicate that the camera bag and the two instuctional DVD's were being shipped separately, which required a phone call to Ritz to obtain this information.

this camera replaced my canon g9 because it had so much noise and ruined lots of photos.I had dslr's befor but because of health I've had to go "lighter". I thought the G9 would do it but I hate the pictures it took, some were good but most were terrible. This camera Is fantastic and the "VR" lens takes some awesome pictures. The weight is very light and the speed is good in burst mode. I use to own "JUST CANON" , but this little light weight has changed my mind - Both lens are great - GET IT !

I bought this camera because I had owned two Nikon Coolpx cameras(4300 and S5), before, but I lost the 4300 and the S5 just didn't perform to my liking. I'm an amateur, but I want to learn to use the camera manually. I got a good deal: two lens, two DVD's, a camera bag and the body. The pictures are amazing! I travel a lot and I am traveling to the Baltic Sea area soon. I am so happy I'll come back with amazing pictures of London and St. Petersburg, Russia, not to mention Amsterdam and Berlin. Even though this is my first SLR I'm sure it won't be my last. I am a Nikon fan for life. Nikon rocks!

I use these photos specifically for getting great shots for modeling portfolios for my daughter and others. This camera gives clear, amazingly vivid photos. And, Ritz Camera could not have created a better deal. The package came with the D60 body, two lenses, two DVDs, and a extra large bag. Everything you need in one bundle. I am a comparison shopper. I looked at Best Buy, Ritz Camera and other and found that all other prices for such a bundle would be well over [$]anywhere and everywhere except Ritz Camera. As an amateur, leading to professional, photographer for creating model portfolios, this is great. Photos come out perfect. No need for retouching. The clarity is amazing and since it is a 10.2 magapixel camera, the quality when enlarging photographs is excellent.Photography has turned into a major hobby. This camera is perfect for those of us new to the game of professional photography. It is easy to use if you are a beginner and perfect to use if you are a professional. Very lightweight.I highly recommend Nikon cameras. Their web site is packed with helpful suggestions and resources. Superb camera, superb Nikon.

The photos are clearer and I don't have to adjust the exposure everytime I shoot to keep the photo from being too dark. This is my first SLR camera and I love it,easy to use. I love the fact that it uses a SD card and not the expensive Compact flash card. I love taking photos. You will not regret this attractive/expensive looking camera@ a great price. You pay for what you get. I got a great deal@ Ritz Camera,it was the best deal on the internet. One other site wanted to charge me [$] just for the battery&charger and [$] for the body. . I got camera body,2 lenses, charger, battery, cables, camera bag,2 instructional DVD'S [...] FOR [$] [...] It's still a great price@[$]. Thanks Ritz!

I purchased the D60 as an addition/upgrade to my E990. I am now a casual user taking professional quality photos. I purchased the package deal with a second lens, 2 DVD's and camera bag. It was very nice getting everything together. When the DVD's reference using a particular lens I have it in the bag.

Great Replacement for 35mm Film Camera
By Regular DaveVerified Reviewer from San Antonio, TX on 5/19/2008

Cons:
Complicated Controls
Best Uses:

Comments about Nikon Nikon D60 Digital SLR Two-Lens Outfit (18-55 VR & AF-S DX 55-200mm F/4-5.6G ED):

I purchased this since locating 35mm film is getting harder. I have a smaller Nikon Coolpix L4 which is ok but I really wanted better resolution. You will not be disappointed with the D60. I received mine 4 days ago so I'm not up to speed with all the controls - it will do everything (editing, red eye removal, etc.) prior to transferring to a computer.

I've never heard of a camera that is so versatile, easy to use, and fast. The shutter speed is the big selling point for me. I have grandkids that move too quick to get a photo so all my memories are on video. I need snapshots. Thanks Nikon

I am 69 yrs. old & recovering from back surgery. I can't stand and try to support a heavy camera and lenses like I used to. I like the D60 because it is nice and light & compact. I can snap a picture in no time at all. This camera is a "snap" to use. I would recommend it to anyone whose hands tremble with old age or whatever. The features are outstanding. It is easy to use also. Incidentally the price was fantastic.

I went to the aquarium with my daughter to take picture.
It was amazing!!!. easy to take pictures without any classes and help. Auto pop-up flash is enough to take a picture inside aquarium and also great outside. I love it!!!

This is a system and brand worth serious consideration. I have seen others use the Nikon with great success. We use it at the office and in our field work. A buddy uses the nikon D80 for work published by National Geo. Serious value!
This is the type of camera I will buy next.
