A new 11-area auto- focus system detects focus with superb precision and can even track a moving subject across the frame, shifting focus instantly and automatically to any of the 11 auto-focus points that detect the subject. The D80's large, bright 0.94x viewfinder affords a remarkable view not found in many digital SLRs, making critical composition easier and more pleasing. The camera's rechargeable battery can last up to 2700 shots on a single charge, while also providing a real-time Fuel Gauge of the percentage of charge remaining in the battery at all times. And like all Nikon digital SLR cameras, the D80 feels solid and substantial while being both compact and comfortable. But more experienced photo enthusiasts will admire the D80 most for its bevy of creative controls and features that make photography with the camera so much more enjoyable and rewarding. Its new Optimize image menu, for instance, offers complete control over the look and feel of your pictures, allowing you to boost saturation and create pictures with vivid color, or shoot black-and- white pictures with a choice of four filtration effects, or even create your own custom look that expresses personal style and creativity. Other creative tools include an all-new image Retouch menu for in-camera image editing, built-in i-TTL flash control with the ability to control up to two remote groups of Speedlights, as well as over 32 Custom settings to customize several attributes of the camera's performance.

Unrivaled Image Quality - At the heart of any digital camera lies its image processing engine - a sophisticated processor that determines, among other things, the overall color rendering and image quality of pictures taken with the camera. One of the key advances developed for the D80 is Nikon's own high-resolution image processing engine that inherits best-of-breed technologies from Nikon's latest professional digital SLR cameras, including color independent analog pre- conditioning and high-precision 12-bit digital image processing algorithms, which combine to produce natural-looking images that benefit from faithful color and tone reproduction. A new dedicated high-performance processing chip greatly accelerates performance on all levels, while also achieving lower power consumption, assuring more pictures per battery charge.

The D80 also benefits from Nikon's exclusive 3D Color Matrix Metering II, to ensure accurate exposures, even in the most challenging lighting conditions. Evaluating, rather than merely measuring or averaging the true content of each scene, input from the system's frame-wide 420-pixel sensor is automatically referenced against an onboard database of over 30,000 scenes from actual photography to calculate final exposure value. Variable Center- Weighted metering and Spot metering centered on the active focus area are also available, as are exposure compensation and auto exposure bracketing. Sophisticated exposure automation combined with options for complete user control help to make the D80 an ideal high-performance digital SLR for passionate photography enthusiasts.

Speed to Burn - One of the hallmarks of Nikon's digital SLR cameras is how fast they operate, not only when capturing images, but also when processing them. The D80 proudly carries this tradition forward. Not only is the camera powered up and ready to shoot in only 0.18 seconds, it also reacts at blazing speeds when the shutter button is pressed. With a minimal shutter lag time of just 80 milliseconds (0.08 seconds), and the ability to shoot 3 frames per second up to 100 consecutive shots (in JPEG Normal mode), the camera is ready to shoot whenever that priceless expression or special moment presents itself. Images shot are processed instantly and recorded rapidly to the inserted SD memory card. Preview images are also displayed near instantly.

The D80's new 11-area auto-focus system also fulfills its role in the overall speed of the camera, delivering fast and precise focus under varying shooting conditions. Adopting a refined version of Nikon's advanced Multi-CAM 1000 AF Sensor Module, this new 11-area AF system with center area wide-frame operation adds effective new focusing options that will instill greater confidence in getting the desired shot. An all-new Auto-Area AF mode measures all eleven focus areas and automatically determines which of them are on the primary subject.

Creativity Comes Standard - The Nikon D80 is designed to inspire creativity at every level. For this reason, the camera includes a wide assortment of features and tools to empower all kinds of users, ranging from the novice to the seasoned pro, to pursue their creative vision, instantly and right from within the camera.

D80 photographers will enjoy the camera's built-in Multiple Exposure mode for unique composite image effects, or the Optimize menu options that closely tailor results to the scene at hand or the intended use of an image or to a custom preference of the photographer. Optimization of sharpening, tone (contrast), color, saturation and hue is controlled by the user-selected choice of Normal, Softer, Vivid, More Vivid, Portrait, Custom and Black-and- White. The black-and-white mode can be customized using red, green, yellow and orange filter effects as well as image sharpening and tone compensation.

The D80 also features an all-new image Retouch menu, with exclusive in- camera editing functions that will certainly keep D80 users engaged when they're not busy shooting. Options within the Retouch menu include:
- D-Lighting: Automatically balances underexposed portions of an image to enhance detail in these areas, without affecting the highlights of the picture.
- In-camera Red-eye Correction: Automatically removes the annoying red-eye effect sometimes caused by flash.
- Trim: Images can be trimmed within the camera to produce smaller files with reduced display sizes for easy sharing or greater efficiency for specific end purposes.
- Image Overlay: Merges a pair of selected RAW files taken with the D80 to create a composite image within the camera as a RAW or JPEG file. This feature is especially useful when trying to create a soft-focus effect with two similar images.
- Monochrome settings: Monochrome settings can be applied to any color image in the camera, to convert it to a pleasing monochromatic picture, either in black-and-white, sepia or cyanotype.
- Filter Effects: Can be used to emulate and apply the effects of a Skylight filter or a Warming filter to any image stored on the inserted SD card. A Customized Color menu within filter effects can also be used to make subtle shifts in color to any image in the camera.

For anyone just beginning to enjoy the added performance and versatility of digital SLR photography, creative shooting is as simple as rotating the Digital Vari-Program mode dial on the camera. The D80 has seven preconfigured program modes to optimize the camera for specific shooting conditions and greatly increase the chances of taking a great photograph. In Portrait Mode, for example, the camera automatically optimizes the color, hue, and saturation levels to capture the most flattering skin tones, softens the focus of the background images to emphasize the face and applies a milder form of in-camera sharpening. Users can choose from Auto, Portrait, Landscape, Close- Up, Sports, Night Landscape or Night Portrait.

The D80 also offers creative ways to share pictures, with its built-in Pictmotion slideshow feature, which includes style selections that control transitions and background music. Shows can be enjoyed on the 2.5-inch LCD, or complete with audio on a television when connected via the supplied AV cable.

Creature Comfort - The D80 features refined ergonomics and design, borne from Nikon's extensive experience designing successful SLR cameras for over 50 years. As a result, the camera is incredibly comfortable to use and handle, and incorporates several new features that enhance its usability. The D80 features a large and bright viewfinder with large 0.94x magnification to ensure the clearest view possible for precise composition. Included is a built-in diopter adjustment control knob that also makes it easier to fine- tune the view to match eyesight. The viewfinder's integrated grid display can also be turned on to assist with composition.

A large new 2.5-inch 230,000-dot high-resolution LCD provides an ultra- wide 170-degree viewing angle from all directions. Navigating the spacious preview of your images is easy with a new dedicated Zoom button, magnifying images on screen up to 25 times their original size. A new RGB histogram display aids in evaluating exposures with greater precision. Other playback options include single frame, 4 or 9-image thumbnail display, an improved histogram display and highlight point display. A new menu interface featuring refinements to the carefully chosen color scheme and increased font size makes navigation easier on the eye, easier to understand and easier to use. Menus can be customized to display only selected items using the new My Menu set.

The D80 is slimmer and more compact than its predecessors, and remains true to Nikon's commitment to intuitive operation. The size, layout and operation of all buttons and controls are designed for maximum ease of use.

System Strength - With the D80, users also have complete and seamless compatibility with Nikon's extensive Total Digital Imaging System, and the camera is designed to take advantage of many of the technologies built into Nikon accessories. The D80's powerful built-in Speedlight is compatible with Nikon's Creative Lighting System, and can wirelessly control up to two groups of Speedlights in full TTL mode, taking the guesswork out of multiple flash photography. Compatible Speedlights within the Creative Lighting System include the SB-800, SB-600 and Nikon's Wireless Close-up Speedlight Systems, featuring the SB- R200.

The D80 also offers unprecedented compatibility with Nikon's extensive selection of AF Nikkor lenses as well as new DX Nikkor lenses, which are designed exclusively for use with Nikon DX format digital SLR cameras. Nikkor lenses, famous for optical superiority, add to the D80's ability to deliver outstanding images.

The D80 will also have an optional MB-D80 battery pack available, extending the shooting capability in an ergonomic design that adds shooting stability. Able to run on either one or two EN-EL3e rechargeable batteries or six AA-size batteries, the pack also features an additional command dial and alternative buttons for shutter release and AE-Lock/AF-Lock that make vertical shooting more comfortable.

The D80 is also fully compatible with Capture NX software (available for purchase separately), Nikon's highly versatile and elegantly simple new photo editing solution designed to help photographers tap the full potential of NEF (RAW) images. Featuring an innovative user interface that provides easier access to powerful and visually intuitive enhancement tools, Capture NX's powerful photo image processing and editing tools can also be applied to JPEG and TIFF files to satisfy a broader range of photofinishing needs and applications.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D80 DSLR Camera w/Nikkor 18-135MM F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Lens:

This is blowing camera, a very sharp shooter, FAR FAR better then any competitor in the same category BUT ..... the top panel shows
F -- quite often. This error comes in when camera CPU does not find lens attached where as actually the lens is mounted.

That's it, no comparison otherwise with any Sony, any Canon in the same segment.

I use this camera for everything, portraits, outdoor shots, wildlife shots. It has done well for me in any situation. I don't miss shots like I was was with my other digital because of slow shutter speed. All my Nikon lenses work easily on this body. This lens works on my Nikon 35mm. My pictures are better than they were with my 35mm. The in camera editing features are a great plus also.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D80 DSLR Camera w/Nikkor 18-135MM F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Lens:

Have had no problems, unlike the last two Canons I bought. Nikon seems to be far superior in construction. Expect the D80 to last for years instead of a few weeks like my last Canon. Tons of money down the drain since Canon will not support their warranty and seem to have a severe quality problem with humidity. Finally learned my lesson and bought a good camera from a reputable manufacturer.

Battery life seems quite good. Did Christmas with the Grandkids and did about 200+ photos, almost all with Flash and still have over 2/3 battery charge left.

This is a great combination of Nikon D80 body & 18-135mm lens. Easy to use and great picture quality. Because the lens gets longer when zooming in you can get shadows from the on board flash. I don't see how to avoid this without using an external flash unit. I finally took the DSLR dive from my old Pentax P-30 and haven't regretted it.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D80 DSLR Camera w/Nikkor 18-135MM F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Lens:

If you are comming from point & shoot cam, this is the best you can get for your money, D90 has some more fixtures and video (But you don't want a DSLR that is heavy to shoot video, and the max time for video is 5 minutes, get the extra money and save it for a real video cam)instead of having the D90, get the D80 and save the money for a good lens for low light, the lens kit 18-135mm is a good lens but is not made for low light, it's slow in low light, and don't think of getting the D40 or D60 because with the D90 on the market the price for the D80 is almost the same with the D60 and if you have some lens from I think 1996 to date you can use it on the D80, not with the D40 or D60, just keep in mind that if you planning to learn more about the DSLR as I want to learn D80 will be a very nice back up camera in the future if you can get later the D300 or a better model, hope this review help you, and by the way I got my D80 from Ritz Camera for a good price, with the 18-135mm lens kit and a free 55-200mm Quatarray lens (probably not too good lens but free)+ discount with pay me later for a total cost of almost the same as the D60.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D80 DSLR Camera w/Nikkor 18-135MM F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Lens:

I have only had the camera a week or so, but have already gotten a ton of use from it. It is such a huge difference from the compact digital cameras I have owned in the past. Much more difficult to lag around, but the burden is worth the performance. Easy to use, tons of options to play with, and is awesome for any pictures you would want to take. The lens is great for a first time user because it allows you to take just about any shot you can imagine. If you were a more serious photographer, you might want to go with a more expensive lens, but to start, this one works out great.

This combination is a great set together as the range of the lens goes with a quality camera. I use this camera for landscapes and artsy pictures. On auto settings, sometimes the camera takes a little while to adjust the shot before snapping; sometimes it won't take the shot at all and I have to change to manual. For the most part though, I'm on manual all the time.

This is my first SLR and I love it. It has way too many bells and whistles at this point, but I am hoping to grow into them. So far, my photos have turned out amazing. The portrait function delivers professional looking photos of my children.

I listed the weight as a con, which is a bit ironic, being that I chose it over a Canon because it felt better constructed. The Canon felt a little too light/ easily breakable for me.

I am just learning the basics, but at this rate, the auto and portrait modes are delivering more than I ever expected!

Comments about Nikon Nikon D80 DSLR Camera w/Nikkor 18-135MM F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Lens:

This is a complex camera with an easy to understand user manual. It is more than worth the price for it since it has dropped almost [$] in 6 months! It is very similar to the D90 except in MP, video shoot and screen display of picture before shooting. It is way better than the D60 for just a slightly higher price. The lens is great - VR is not required for 18-55mm. The software that comes the camera is great if you are not interested in all the complex features of photoshop. It also has a very good battery life. Above all, the images are extremely high quality. They have a deeper contrast than the Canons even though Nikons are not a good match for Canon's Sport shooting capabilities. My next upgrade would probably be a D300. Simply put, the D80 is a scaled down version of the D200. Great product for the money. Buy this - you will certainly enjoy it.

My husband just bought the D80 for me for an early christmas present. I wanted the D90 originally but the price was just too high for us. This is my 1st DSLR and I LOVE IT. Since getting it 2 days ago I haven't put it down. It's very easy to use. It feels solid in your hands. I really love the feel of this camera. I use this camera to take pictures of my daughter. It's fast enough to keep up with my daughter. So I don't miss a moment. I don't have any complaints about this camera at all. I am so happy with this purchase.

Last SLR was a Nikon FG film camera which I carried all over the Med while in the Navy. The D80 is so much better and lots more fun. I did find the built in flash to be very inadaquate, even for day time, indoor photos. With the 18 - 135 mm lens, this camera is great for packing and travel on motorcycle trips. Battery life has out lasted any of my week-end trips.

This camera is great. I was looking to upgrade from a point and shoot and had it narrowed down to a D60 and a Pentax K200D. Then I saw the D80 and once I held it the deal was done. It had the 11 point AF and quality build of the Pentax, but was a faster autofocus. It takes great pictures out of the box, but will give me the flexibility to learn and grow. I got the 18-200 VR lens and the SB-400 as well. The sales folks at my local Ritz were very helpful as well.

I'm a photography student and I needed a camera that I could travel and work with that can with stand the schedule I have as well as produce the type of pictures I want for school and fun. There is so much on the D80 that every time you learn one trick you feel as if you purchased a new camera. to me you can never get tried of this camera. at least I can't. there is just so much you can do and add to it. As a chef I needed something I can also used for work. with the D80 I have the best of all world's.

I've only had this camera for a couple of days but every picture I've taken has been great. It's a bit of a learning curve to know where all the controls are and finding all the right functions/settings that I want but it's well worth it. I was debating which camera to get between the D60 and D80 but I found that the D80 was more comfortable in my hands. Yes, the D60 is a bit cheaper and almost the same as the D80 but comfort in handling the camera helps me shoot better. I'm very happy with this purchase and definitely would recommend this to someone else.

A great kit lens included. Camera is solid, and has a lot of features to "grow" into. Although a steep learning curve takes patience to learn, I'm sure the reward will be great. Get a field guide!

Comments about Nikon Nikon D80 DSLR Camera w/Nikkor 18-135MM F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Lens:

The camera was bought for our daugther who just started art school (photography) we made use of it during our first ever visit to the USA. We had a great time and thanks to the good advice by Ritz Camera at Natick Collection (MA) we have fine pictures and memories. Now, a few weeks later, our daughter has started her new school and she came home enthusiastically telling us she has the same camera as the teacher uses. The advise by Ritz Camera was spot on! Two remarks though:1. the Tamrac 5515 case advised by the sales person only just fits the camera with lens. There is no room for extra parts, but it was a great pouch to carry around on our holiday. Perhaps due to the tight fit the bayonet hood broke when we dropped the bag hard on to the floor. In hindsight a Tamrac 5768 sling pack would have probably been a better choice.2. We forgot to purchase a simple UV filter. Such a filter is dirt cheap (basically a [$] piece of window glass) and protects the lens from scratching. Perhaps the sales staff should have remind us to get such a filter. We are very pleased with the camera and with the advice and service from Ritz Camera. Also a great thanks to you guys for helping us have the best holiday ever! (Some of the pictures made with our Nikon D80 can be seen here[@]

I mostly take pictures of wildlife - deer, birds, butterflies - and scenery. The more pictures I take the more I am impressed with the D80 camera - it is easy to use and handle. I have even taken great pics of a pair of deer fawns thru a window with screen, something I've never been able to do with any other camera I've owned. It is easy to carry and I'm learning to change the modes for different situations. It is fantastic.

We bought this camera for my wife's mother, who is an avid nature photographer, as well as a very kind person. Meaning - she lets us use it whenever we're around. So far, we've traveled to London, Berlin, Oslo, and many points in between with this excellent camera, and its colors, clarity, and ease of use have far out performed anything else I've seen. Also, we had a professional photographer do our wedding this summer, and she used a comparable Canon camera, which did not impress me as much in night time scenes/no-flash situations as the Nikon has.

All in all, a wonderful camera! We're buying one with our wedding money!

I used to take a lot of pictures years ago with a Minolta ooo series 35mm and recently with Digi compacts and they have been good, but this camera is way beyond good it is truly amazing.
I have to admit I am still learning but even my 13 year old daughter uses this camera, she has a good eye too.
So far most of the 500+ pictures taken have been indoor and the flash has been great and the fact you can turn it down helps when shooting babies (That sounds bad)Sorry.
I am buying a tripod this weekend to go out in the evenings, I tried without and as great as the shots have been they could be better.

Bought from local Wolf after trekking to 4 stores to get good service, it was on offer at a very good price and lots of free stuff too.

Nice layout of the controls, fast up time, definitely better than average for functionality & controls, too bad Nikon opted for a "plastic" body to keep cost & weight to a minimum. Otherwise not bad.
Would make a good choice for the fence sitter planning to make the switch from film to digital with this camera. The user options are fantastic! Only thing that could use a bit of improving is a firmware revision to allow "live view", like in the D300 etc. Otherwise this is a wonderful camera made by Nikon

Faulty designed matrix meter-overexposes

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Nikon Nikon D80 DSLR Camera w/Nikkor 18-135MM F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Lens:

The matrix meter is terrible, it grossly overexposes by over one stop. Unacceptable for this lever camera. Nikon used algorythms that preserve shadows but blow out highlights which cannot be recovered. Nikon matrix metering has been outstanding in previous models but the design was changed in error for the D80 and is not usable because of the huge exposure error.

I used this camera for a digital photography class in school. I had the most amazing time with this camera! I love the freedom of the varying controls. The camera was easy to get used to with no real learning curve. Even without the teacher going over the controls, I could have easily figured it out on my own. It's a strong camera, too! There's no telling how many times other students may have dropped the cameras there, but they weren't really that beat-up. It was even comfortable to hold. The images were a higher quality than I've ever really been used to, which made me extremely happy. I used this camera on a variety of projects including still life, insects, nature, and even an experiment involving self-photography and a long exposure time. I recommend this camera for students like myself who are beyond the 'point and shoot' stage and plan on taking pictures for a while. It's a great camera to learn on and the quality is good. I want one of my own now!

Easy to setup and use. I own a old Canon F/TB SLR and understand f/stops etc. This is for my wife who knows nothing and she proceeded to shot some great shots first day out! Then my 12 year old got hold of it and those are even better! I am blown away by the quality and ease of use of the D80. I purchased a kit with 2 lenes, 18/135 and 70/300 VR. Exceptional quality for kit lenes, you will be impressed. I would not want to lug around this camera at Disneyland or take on a hike very far, I'm not that hard core. Battery life is excellent and the software included is OK, to get the most out of your pix you'll want a real photo editor. With 10.2 MP theres plent of info in each pic to work with after its croped. For soccer games, occational surf/wildlife pix this can't be beat. The Nikkor lenes selection is very good and insures the camera will suit your needs far into the future.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D80 DSLR Camera w/Nikkor 18-135MM F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Lens:

I was very sceptical about getting a digital slr. I have a film slr and loved it and wasn't very sure about getting a digital one. I did some research [...]instantly feel in love with the D80. I knew right away it was the best thing I have purchased all year. I immediatly went home and started to take lots of pictues and they all turned out great. It is nice to be able to see the pictures before you print them out. I would recommend this to anyone who asked me about my camera. If you love taking pictures and are looking for a digital slr this is the one you shoud buy!!!!

Comments about Nikon Nikon D80 DSLR Camera w/Nikkor 18-135MM F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Lens:

I bought this camera as an upgrade from the D40 and am very pleased with it. It is a step-up from the simple and basic D40 but for those of you who aren't planning on going professional, this is an excellent camera to settle on. The specifications are great, 200-HI.1 ISO, customizable interface, and the commander mode with the SB-600/800 is simple mind-blowing! I am an art major and enjoy taking pictures wherever I go and the included 55-135 is an incredibly versatile lens that gives you crisp images.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D80 DSLR Camera w/Nikkor 18-135MM F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Lens:

I have a Canon 30D and a Canon 20D in addition to this Nikon. The Nikon has become my camera of choice because it has the bigger file size and I think the camera captures the colors better. It is lighter than the 30D and easier to use in many respects. The Canon is likely better for sports action in that it takes multiple images faster. But the clarity of the images derived from the D80 is exceptional. I use it primarily for outdoor and nature photography. I am looking forward to some fall foilage shots with it. Anyone with SLR experience will fall in love with this digital and the exceptional images you get from it.
I have an SB600 flash with it, and it matches perfectly. The batteries, however, are expensive.

These and the 2 photos of the birds were my first shots taken with the D80. Overall the camera is great, but after about an hour in the sun it's weight was noticable. Daylight shots look great and when you zoom into the photo see little to no noise. In shade and low light however if you zoom into the photo you can see little white specks. I'm sure this is something I've done incorrect as I'm just getting started.

Well finally, I can post a review on the camera!!!I have researched this and other Nikon SLR's for about two weeks now, after borrowing my brother in law's D70. I was hooked on that camera, so decided I would get one. After reading all the reviews of this camera and others in it's price range. I decided this was the one for me. I actually went to [...] today to pick up some SD cards. A man was considering the D40x and I persuaded him to first look a the D80. I assured him this was the better camera. I came home with my camera, charged the battery, set the controls, and started taking pictures. It was that fast. The pictures were amazing. I'm a headshot photographer and I have used a Canon film camera for years. I won't go back to film, this is so easy and you can see the shots in the huge viewfinder. You can zoom the picture and make sure you have the right shot. You can't go wrong. I know my customers are going to be very happy. The camera is easy to learn. I know there's a lot of extra things that I haven't found yet. But I was able to crop, edit and fix pictures right in the camera. That is worth so much to me. It took such a small amount of time. I love love this camera, I know you will too. Don't buy anything else. I would have bought the D200 if I could afford it, but I doubt it could be any better than this camera.I wish it would come with some really great software, that is the only downside to it.But for a great digital SLR. I highly totally recommend this camera.!!!!

I've actually picked up a couple of pointers this way...LOVE MY NIKON!!

I owned the D50 for a few years and I was very satisfied with the picture quality and used this camera as my "beginners" model until I could afford the next step.Well this is the next step. I read review after review before buying this camera but none swayed me into buying it. What swayed me is when I borrowed a friends, held it in my hands, and took pictures of it. It made me feel as if my D50 were toy.Anyway i take photos in every situation and I can tell you that I may not use all the features in this camera, but to me that is the challenge . . . to try :) Others may get technical about the f stops and speeds and such, but from one amateur to another . . . this is a lot of camera, for a hefty price, but the price is cheap compared to all the features. Just do some research like i did, then head over to [...] with your memory card snap a few pics, take them home and you will be back to get the camera ;)The only con I have had with this camera by the way is the software. Picture Project 1.7 is better than 1.5, but Nikon Capture which should be included with this camera is just a trial version. I spent an extra [$] and bought Lightroom instead, just on principal that Nikon was in my opinion cheap in not at least offering Capture at a substantial discount to loyal Nikon fans.

This is my second digital camera. The D-80 was announced just as my first (not a Nikon) was pronounced unfixable. I was happy with my first camera but I have been astounded by the Nikon D-80. From the first day, I have been impressed with the picture quality and ease of operation. My 15 year old daughter has no difficulty in producing excellent quality pictures. I have had the D80 for eight months and I am only now beginning to appreciate all of the features this camera has to offer. My only complaint would be with the documentation and instruction manual. There is so much to this camera that one must refer to the manual frequently. Unfortunately, I find the manual to be difficult to use at times due to the confusing way the technical explanations and instructions are presented. I have recommended this camera to a number of people without reservation.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D80 DSLR Camera w/Nikkor 18-135MM F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Lens:

The Nikon D80 is a wonderful camera. It is fast, gives accurate colors, and is easy to use. You can fine tune your shots with all its features like a pro or put it in AUTO mode and let the camera take care of everything for you.

I own several lenses from my previous film SLR camera (N80). These all work great with the D80 and pictures come out sharp.

Pocket digital cameras are good if have time to take your shots and want something compact. But if you want speed and some creative power to your shots, this is an awesome camera for that purpose.

I bought this camera to take pictures of my 2 year old daughter. She moves fast and I needed a camera that could keep up her. On my first day of using the camera, I snapped over 200 pictures. Lots of great pictures!

I love the D80 -- I am very happy with it and I'm sure you will be too!

If you want the same picture quality as the D200 but not all those confusing controls get the D80. I have had it for a little over a week and it is so easy to use. The pictures come out outstanding. It feels so comfortable in my hands and it is such a powerful camera. The menus are very easy to follow also. The editing tools are cool too. You can do so much with this camera. I was debating on whether or not I should get the XTi or the Alpha but I chose the D80 because the picture quality and how it operates. The price is a lot for the D80 but in the long run you will be glad you chose it. YOU GOTTA GET IT!!!!!

Comments about Nikon Nikon D80 DSLR Camera w/Nikkor 18-135MM F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Lens:

I got the Nikon D80 after falling in love with the Canon Rebel XTi. After reading what seemed like hundreds of reviews, I started to think maybe I should spend a few extra hundred dollars and get a better product than the XTi. The D80 has exceptional reviews in contrast to the Canon.
I got the camera about 4 months ago. What attracted me into getting a DSLR camera was the speed and image quality.
The only thing I hate is that its not something I want to take with me all the time.

I highly recommend this camera to any photography "newbies" and also to professional photographers. Very user friendly, and very professional. Best of both worlds.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D80 DSLR Camera w/Nikkor 18-135MM F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Lens:

The camera is great in all categories except a few. My complaints are as follows good but not great in low light, the Af illumination well thats a joke its placed in the worst spot imaginable and cant get beyond the flash most of the time. The built in flash is to low and show shadows around the lens. Now my pros The weight is perfect for someone who likes a little weight in their camera. The camera is easy to hold steady i can on average take pictures at a shutter of 80 and my pictures turn out, unlike other cameras i take them usually at 120 to 160.The screen now thats a wow i love how big it is and how clear.Ease of use thats a big part of my usage if i cant switch settings an a matter of seconds i can miss something thats so great.[...]

Comments about Nikon Nikon D80 DSLR Camera w/Nikkor 18-135MM F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Lens:

I've owned this since shortly after its introduction. I've owned Canon SLRs both film and digital for over 20 years. I was starting fresh, no lenses that drove me to stay with Canon. I did my research and selected this camera over the Canon 30D due to the lense. The Nikon 18-135 is a much better lense over the Canon kit lense. I've been extremely happy with the D80. I've shot indoors, some portrait work, outdoors & indoor sports. It has worked very well in all situations. Great results. I've been printing 11x14 & 12x16 with no issues at all.
The menus are fairly easy to navigate if you have overall photographic experience. I have done a little with the onboard editing. It works but I tend to download and use other editing tools.
Overall a great camera with a great kit lense.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D80 DSLR Camera w/Nikkor 18-135MM F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Lens:

We waited for digital cameras, especially the zoom capability to catch up with film cameras. Having used Nikon film cameras for over 20 years I was anxious to be able to make the switch to digital. The Nikons that I used were mainly used on a manual setting with manual focus lenses. With the digital features and auto-focusing, as well as instant gratification, it took some getting used to, but has been very fulfilling. We've been very pleased with the photos we've taken. We feel that we have more freedom to play and practice to learn the features, as the digital 'film' is at a minimal cost once you've purchased memory cards. The zoom capability on the 70-300mm lens is excellent. Many times we're too close to frame a whole photo, but for sports games or taking photos at the zoo (Tai Shan the baby Panda), we've been very happy.

I really like the Nikon D-80 Camera. Although at first it is was a bit of a leaning curve to go through all the setups and understand the controls. However, after reading the manual( which I suggest to do) and finding a lot of info about the cameras controls ONLINE, it became easier to use each time I pulled it out to shoot with. That's the bottom line You Need To Use it and you will learn it! [...] I recommend this camera to anyone looking to buy a quility digital camera and yet not want to spend more money to go up to the D200.Judd

Comments about Nikon Nikon D80 DSLR Camera w/Nikkor 18-135MM F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Lens:

I bought this camera the day it came out. I love it. It is an excellent camera for the money. I never feel limited by the D80. The camera body itself is great.. However, the lens is only decent. Good for everyday, outdoor use. You are definitely (eventually) going to want to purchase other lenses than the 18-135mm F/3.5-5.6, depending on the type of photography you are into. Not good for low lighting unless you carry a tripod with you everywhere you go.

The next step up with Nikon is the D200. With only a few more feautures, there is a huge jump in price. I will say, the D200 is built much more solidly than the D80. The D200 is also much heavier. The D80 is fairly lightweight, but it still feels durable. If money is of no concern to you, go with the D200. Otherwise, go for the D80. You wont regret it.

The camera is all of the things I expected from the reviews I read and lots more. I can't wait for the weather to break here so that I can get outside and take more pictures. The first thing I bought was a new strap, the included one is really hard to attach properly and it has let go several times actually breaking one of my old film lenses that I was practicing with.

This camera is great. I just started working for a small newspaper and we're required to take pictures for every article we write. This camera has been great for that. Picture quality is great.
I am also using it for my photo class and the pictures are great.
I decided to buy an SLR after I played with my friend's Canon Rebel XT. I couldn't decide which camera to go with - Nikon D80 or Canon Rebel XTi - I chose the Nikon after reading many reviews and doing some research. So far, I'm very happy with my puchase and can't wait to go to Europe to take some amazing shots there.

This camera is Awesome! I've owned several film SLR's and another digital SLR, and this by far is the best. The speed of the 11-point autofocus is remarkably fast. The shutter response is instant so you will not miss any shots due to delay. The colors are very accurate. I used the Nikon D80 with the SB-800 flash for several weddings, and the pictures turned out Great! The 10Mp sensor is good for even poster size enlargements. This camera is good in low light too, and has very low digital noise even at ISO 400, 800, and 1600. I would buy it again if I were deciding on a new camera. I can't find anything wrong with it. Good for beginners, and pros.

This is my first digital SLR. I have always used point and shoot and have been the one in the group who took pictures the most. I tried out my friends Canon Rebel XT and i knew i needed a DSLR. I read reviews over and over went to the store and bought the D80. The d80 feels like a camera you would pay the $$$ for. THe canon does not have the solid feel to it. The pictures are amazing, i bought a standard 2 gig mem card for $30, not an ultra or extreme speed and it still can take 9 shots in a row before needing a second to store the pics. 8x10's are crystal clear and cant tell they are digital!! i am about to purchase a sb600 speedlight because i take tons of indoor pictures of my daughter.
