The COOLPIX S4000 offers advanced shooting features that fully utilize the touch screen. With Touch Shutter, users can select their subject by a single touch on the screen to adjust focus and exposure, and to automatically release the shutter. White Balance can also be adjusted by touch in Food mode by dragging a finger to move the slider marker. The COOLPIX S4000 is also equipped with Subject Tracking, which automatically follows and focuses on a subject selected by touch.
Touch control also lends a new dimension of fun to viewing and retouching images. The speed and ease of fingertip scrolling through images and instant image selection makes other forms of control pale in comparison. Then there is the supplied stylus that can be used with a variety of input, retouch and image enhancement functions. Included is the Paint Function, which enables memos, drawings, colorful borders or stamps to be added directly to images.

High-Definition movie recording
Entertain audiences with movies that capture the impact of the scene with HD. The COOLPIX S4000 can shoot up to 1.5 hours* of HD movies (720p) with sound at 30fps.
*Recording stops automatically after 29 minutes. This figure is based on in-house testing standards and stated for recording at 25°C with a fully charged EN-EL12 battery. Actual results may vary greatly depending on factors that include differences in ambient temperature, and the amount of zoom and autofocus operations used.
Four advanced image stabilizing features* help ensure sharper results
Nikon's Electronic VR image stabilization compensates for the effects of camera shake. Motion Detection automatically controls shutter speed and the ISO setting to compensate for subject movement as well as camera shake. ISO 3200 capability allows faster shutter speeds when shooting in low light or capturing fast-moving subjects. We thought this would give us really clear, crisp photos like our SLR camera, but they aren't really all that great. It is easier to carry than our other one and the memory capacity of the SD card is good.

the only improvement I would recommend for this camera is to add some texture on the body of the camera so it is easier to hold. it can slip out of your hands easily.

I own a Sony cyber-shot 7 mp and was looking to upgrade to a newer and better camera. I bought this camera based on the retailer's description. However, I have not found this camera any better at all than my old one and in fact the Sony is easier to use. this camera takes very poor quality pictures except in daylight outdoors. I snapped about 10 indoor pictures, all of which were very blurry even when I changed the settings. There is no red-eye reduction setting and the touch screen is difficult to use. You have to tap it several times or use the stylus. I was very disappointed with this camera and would have returned it if not for the fact that I used it to try it out.

I have owned 2 Coolpix cameras previously, and they have both been awesome. This one, however, takes the cake! The battery is rechargeable right in the camera, so no more buying batteries, and no more lugging a battery charger aroung on trips. Simply bring the ac adaptor & USB cord, and plug in to outlet or computer. Camera is small, easy to use, & takes excellent photos. The large LCD is a plus for eyes like mine. I didn't think I would care about the touch screen, but actually I love it!

Bought this camera for my business to take pictures of work done and needed to be done. I had a Canon that I thought was doing the job but the canon didn't do well in low light. I used my son's coolpix at Christmas and realized the difference was significant. Had to have one. Glad I made the switch.

This is the "take it everywhere" camera, always at hand. If you want to take the time its features offer substantial "custom photo" set-ups. We had another small camera (bought four years ago) that needed repair. We bought this one for less than the likely repair cost of the other, and the touch-screen technology and other features on the new camera are probably two product renewal cycles ahead of the old one.
