The rugged D300S' hallmarks include versatility, speed, agility and exceptional image quality.     Nikon refuses to replace this camera even though they have had it 3x in 2 yrs for 5-6 wks at a time! they (Nikon) keeps "replacing" one thing or another yet the EXACT same issue remains. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NIKON

    I love this camera, I recently opened a portrait studio, and upgraded from my D90. This was the smartest business move I have made so far. Weather you are taking pictures for fun or as a pro photographer, you need this camera.     I am a student photographer at a NC University and I have used other cameras such as the Nikon D300, D2x, D3, and D3s. The D300s is by far the best camera body I have used for the best price. It basically has all of the capabilities of the D3s but half the size and half the cost. I would recommend getting 2 D300s cameras before buying a D3.
    I love it's fast shutter speeds and high iso range. Typically I don't go any higher than 1600, but I have shot above that and the image quality is still clear.
    Great for sports, landscapes, nature, weddings, low light situations, and with it being lightweight and having a built in flash you can also use it as a family camera.

    I upgraded from a D80 to the D300s. I debated between this and the D90 for several weeks before picking the D300s and I have never had one single regret! I love this camera! It does everything I want it to and so much more! I shoot mainly weddings, engagements and families and have had numerous comments on how great the pictures turn out! Would highly recommend this camera!

    First DSLR and really pleased.[...] Very pleased with the results especially the versatility of the camera. Can't say enough. One small kink, once you put a good lens on body it does get heavy. But a very small kink considering every thing this camera does. The quality of the pictures beyond words. No lost shots due to shutter lag. What you see is what you get.

    I just upgraded from a D200 to the D300s. I bought it specifically to shoot in situations with less available light so I can avoid postprocessing to compensate for noise which was a problem on my D200. So far, I am impressed. Images are crisp up to 1600 iso with very little visible noise in low light. I have not gone beyond that iso yet. I added the MB-D10 grip with a 2nd battery and the camera is quick. My only complaint is that my D200 seemed to have a longer battery life with the MB-D200 grip. I thought about going full frame and buying the D700, but bought this for the crop factor since my main subject is wildlife. The video is just OK. If you want quality HD video, I would buy a an HD camcorder. This is a great camera!

    The D300 was great but the D300s fixed a lot of little things and adds some great features. Quiet mode, Info button, LiveView with usable functionality, and the list goes on. And it is faster! AF is smooth and much quicker than the previous D300... no hunting or "thinking about it," just fast as you could want.

    And the HD video mode is cool too... and it works well, with focusing while recording.
