I bought this camera for astrophotography where a telescope is the lens. This requires a simple modification to remove the stock IR filter and replace it with one suitable for that purpose. This camera is the same chassis as the T2i, ao filters made for that camera fit perfectly. The swivel LCD is a huge help when the scope is at an awkward angle. Noise floor is nice and low which allows good performance at high ISO. I'm so taken with this little camera that I'm buying a lens for terrestrial photography so that I can take it on an upcoming trip instead of a bulkier DSLR and a separate video cam.

I live in Arizona, so the overheating with the Canon T2i was horrific, but I have yet to even get the thermometer to appear with the T3i! The Manual audio mode AND Audio Meters are a MUCH needed upgrade from the T2i. The Digital Zoom is also an amazing new feature, essentially turning your 50mm lens into a 500mm lens!!!! For a beginner, this is a GREAT way to strategize your spending and save money on lenses.

I am very pleased with my new Rebel T3i. Even the manual is detailed and understandable and Canon lenses are interchangable between models such as an example the 60D. I did buy the kit but ordered also the 55mm-250 telephoto lens.
Looking forward to taking the Rebel on my photo jaunts around the globe and throughout the US.
