The Canon EOS Rebel XSi Places Superior Optics and Professional Features Into The Hands of Emerging Photo Enthusiasts with a new Optically Image Stabilized Lens and Professional Features. Canon's EOS Rebel series of digital SLR cameras helped to define and refine what it means to be an EOS 40D combines Canon's tremendous know-how in both the digital and photographic worlds, creating a camera that not only does everything one would expect of a traditional digital SLR, but one that incorporates staggering leaps forward in technological innovation. With new features like Canon's EOS Integrated Cleaning System, Live View Function, a more powerful DIGIC III Image Processor, plus a 10.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, a 3.0-inch LCD monitor and more, the EOS 40D elevates digital photography to new heights, enhancing the shooting experience, and delivering images one could only expect from a Canon.

This outfit is completed with Canon's premium 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Zoom Lens.

Huge Sensor for Tremendous Photographs - Superb image quality: 10.1 Megapixel CMOS Sensor, extensive noise reduction technology, and 14-bit conversion for outstanding color tones and gradations.

Canon's large-area CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) sensor captures images with exceptional clarity and tonal range, and offers the most pixels in its class. This APS-C size sensor (22.5 x 15.0mm) has the same 3:2 ratio as film cameras, enabling an effective angle of view that is 1.6x the normal EF Lens focal length. 14-bit A/D conversion means fine transitions from light to dark tones, and a significant drop in digital and shadow noise. The EOS 40D has an extensive ISO range (from 100 to 1600, plus ISO 3200* in extended mode) which is selectable in 1/3 stop increments. The EOS 40D's CMOS sensor uses much of the new technology first seen in the EOS-1D Mark III camera. New manufacturing techniques mean each pixel is more sensitive to light, and less area between pixels is wasted on the sensor. The on-chip noise reduction electronics are also entirely new, and combine with the sensor's general design for less digital noise and better high-ISO performance than ever before. This results in larger, clearer, sharper and more detailed photographs right from the start. * Standard output sensitivity. Recommended exposure index.

The Speed to Capture Anything You Can Imagine. Outstanding performance: 6.5 fps, burst rate up to 75 consecutive JPEGs or 17 RAW images and DIGIC III Image Processor.

Developed to maximize performance between the capture and recording stages of digital photography, the EOS 40D's DIGIC III processor is faster and more powerful than ever. The latest-generation DIGIC III Image Processor works in concert with Canon's CMOS sensor to achieve even higher levels of performance. The entire electronic system is totally re-designed, giving the camera its incredible combination of speed and image quality. Digital noise is significantly reduced in shadow areas, and color reproduction is superior.

The EOS 40D is one of the fastest digital SLRs offered at this price. It shoots up to 6.5 fps, making it ideal for everything from wildlife to sports. It can capture up to 75 JPEGs, or 17 RAW images in one burst. Whether it's the 0.15-second startup time, the high-speed mirror drive, the brief shutter lag time (only 59 msec), or the predictive AF focusing for capturing the action, the EOS 40D will amaze and delight photographers who don't want to wait for their camera when they're ready to shoot.

The Strength to Handle Anything - Strong, rugged build quality: magnesium-alloy exterior, shutter durability-tested to 100,000 cycles, top speed 1/8000, top x-sync speed 1/250.

Solid Build - The EOS 40D has a solid, substantial feel that complements its compact dimensions. Designed to withstand the rigors of everyday use, the EOS 40D's exterior is constructed with lightweight and ultra-rigid magnesium-alloy that fits perfectly in the hands of the photographer.

Rugged Shutter - The EOS 40D is designed to perform flawlessly, again and again. It has an improved high-speed and durable shutter unit, designed to respond in an instant, reaching a top shutter speed of 1/8000 sec. and tested to a remarkable 100,000-cycle shutter life. A top flash sync speed of 1/250 sec. ensures full flash flexibility in bright or dim light.

Sharp, Fast Focus, No Matter the Light - New AF system with 9 cross-type sensors, and world's first diagonal high-precision cross-type AF at center point with f/2.8 and faster lenses.

The EOS 40D takes some of the most advanced features from Canon's professional cameras and incorporates them into its design. It has a newly designed, high-precision 9-point wide area AF that uses cross-type points with lenses f/5.6 or faster, enabling the camera to focus faster, more accurately, and in ever more complex lighting. Each of the nine AF points has this cross-type coverage, a first in Canon AF SLRs. Adding to this AF performance, the 40D incorporates a diagonally mounted, high-precision cross-type sensor at the center AF point that is sensitive to both vertical and horizontal lines when fast lenses (f/2.8 or faster) are used, for for added accuracy and precision with these wide-aperture lenses. It's the world's first AF SLR where both lines of a cross-type sensor offer high-precision AF coverage. All focus points can be chosen automatically, or accessed using the 40D's intuitive, thumb operated Multi-Controller.

Spot Metering - The EOS 40D also includes a spot meter function that measures roughly 3.5% of the center of the image. This new metering function, added to Canon's impressive Evaluative, Center Weighted averaged and Partial-metering modes, gives the photographer even more choices for custom-tailored shooting.

Highlight Tone Priority - This vital Custom Function lets photographers get even better detail in bright highlights, even in contrasty lighting conditions. It's beneficial for nearly any type of picture, from mid-day shots on a safari to portraits in sunlight, where a user may encounter bright highlight areas where he or she wants to preserve details. Finally, there's no impact on the camera's shooting speed or burst rate when Highlight Tone Priority is engaged. It takes full advantage of the EOS 40D's new 14-bit per channel conversion, meaning there are 16,384 distinct tones from darkest to lightest in each color channel.

The Promise of Perfect Images - EOS Integrated Cleaning System, Picture Style settings, Spot metering, and Highlight Tone Priority for advanced in-camera image control.

EOS Integrated Cleaning System - Photographers who must change lenses in dusty environments will find the advanced Canon EOS Integrated Cleaning System a tremendous time saver. Dust that settles on the sensor surface is removed using ultrasonic vibration. This Self Cleaning Sensor Unit routine is automatically activated whenever the camera is powered on or off. (It can also be manually activated.) A special collar positioned around the sensor collects the loosened dust. Dust particles can also be automatically removed entry level digital SLR. Now Canon has redefined that gateway prowess with the introduction of the line's new leader, the 12.2-megapixel EOS Rebel XSi camera.

Incorporating a number of high-end functions and technology found in Canon's professional SLR models, the EOS Rebel XSi camera boasts an improved autofocus sensor, enhanced 14-bit A/D conversion, an advanced Live View function, and the proprietary DIGIC III image processor. When paired with any of the more than 60 compatible Canon EF and EF-S lenses, including optically image stabilized EF-S lenses like the EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS ? now included in the EOS Rebel XSi kit? or the new EF-S55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS, the EOS Rebel XSi DSLR delivers images that will delight and inspire family and friends at an entry level price tag. The new EOS Rebel XSi camera is the answer for those who have been waiting to make the leap from digital point-and-shoot to digital SLR or from an older SLR to the latest generation of advanced technology, while still including the creative controls their old camera afforded them.

Luxury Feel and Function - At first glance, one notices the Rebel XSi's large, 3-inch LCD monitor, enhanced from the 2.5-inch screen on the Digital Rebel XTi model. The larger 230,000 pixel screen makes it easier for users to review images and scroll through the Rebel XSi camera's menus. The larger-sized display provides the ability to use a larger font size for menu text, making it easier than ever to read settings and options. The new screen also features a broadened color gamut, seven brightness settings for easy viewing under a variety of shooting conditions and a wide viewing perspective in all directions.

The EOS Rebel XSi camera features a substantial yet streamlined profile, with curved edges, contoured surfaces, conveniently placed controls and comfortably constructed rubber grip and thumb rest that all contribute to fatigue-reducing hand fit. The camera body is constructed of a rugged yet lightweight combination of stainless steel and polycarbonate embedded with glass fiber. The chassis exterior is enrobed in a durable ABS and Polycarbonate resin and offered in a choice of silver or black finishes.

Improved Image Quality - At the heart of the new EOS Rebel XSi is its newly designed 12.2 megapixel APS-C size Canon CMOS sensor. This new sensor employs large microlenses over each pixel to reduce noise and enhance sensitivity up to ISO 1600, which is ideal for high-quality images in low light. The APS-C size sensor retains a 1.6x focal length conversion factor compared to full-frame digital image sensors or 35mm film format cameras.

Another image quality enhancement is the upgrade of the Analog-to-Digital (A/D) conversion process to a 14-bit A/D processor. The inclusion of the 14-bit A/D process means the Rebel XSi camera records up to 16,384 colors per channel and allows the camera to produce images with finer and more accurate gradations of tones and colors. This is ideal for shooting outdoors where subtle hue changes in sky, water or foliage can really add to an image.

The Canon EOS Rebel XSi DSLR also incorporates the optional Highlight Tone Priority and High-ISO Noise Reduction functions first introduced in 2007 with the EOS-1D Mark III Professional Digital SLR and now available for the first time in an entry level Canon digital SLR camera. Additionally, the new camera is equipped with Canon's Auto Lighting Optimizer technology, which corrects image brightness and contrast automatically. Introduced last year in the EOS 40D camera, this valuable optional feature now works in all exposure modes and utilizes Face Detection technology to prevent underexposure with backlit faces.

DIGIC III Image Processor - If the 12.2-megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor is the heart of the camera, then Canon's DIGIC III processor is the brain. The latest generation of Canon's proprietary image processing engine, DIGIC III technology ensures that the fine details and natural colors of the images are optimally recorded. The DIGIC III processor also manages the camera's efficient energy consumption and high-speed signal processing performance. The EOS Rebel XSi is the first model in the Rebel series to incorporate DIGIC III.

Enhanced Live View - Introduced in 2007 on the EOS-1D Mark III DSLR, this function makes its debut in an entry level Canon DSLR with the EOS Rebel XSi camera. Live View allows users to frame shots through the LCD screen rather than the viewfinder. Going beyond the manual focus and phase-detection AF capabilities of earlier EOS models with Live View, the EOS Rebel XSi camera adds a new "Live Mode" contrast-detection AF function that allows the camera to focus automatically during Live View without lowering the reflex mirror.

Improved Autofocus and Framing Rate - The EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR utilizes a precise nine-point Autofocus (AF) system featuring a newly developed AF sensor that improves the camera's subject detection capabilities compared to earlier models. The new Rebel XSi DSLR provides a cross-type AF measurement at the center that's effective with all EF and EF-S lenses, while providing enhanced precision with lenses having maximum apertures of f/2.8 or faster. The cross-type AF measurement reads a wider variety of subject matter than conventional single-axis AF sensors and thus increases the new camera's ability to autofocus quickly and accurately. The EOS Rebel XSi is also the fastest firing Rebel model to date, capable of continuously capturing 3.5 frames per second for bursts of up to 53 images in large/fine JPEG mode and 6 frames in RAW mode. The faster frame rates and finer focusing capabilities of the Rebel XSi together with its impressive image burst rate will help photo enthusiasts preserve family milestones or capture split second sports action at just the right moment.

EOS Integrated Cleaning System - The new Rebel XSi DSLR utilizes Canon's EOS Integrated Cleaning system, first introduced on the EOS Rebel XTi camera. The camera's Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit shakes dust particles off of the low-pass filter in front of the sensor. The dust is then trapped by an adhesive along the base, preventing it from causing further nuisance. Cleaning is engaged each time the camera is powered up or shut down or manually through the "clean now" function.

The second part of the cleaning system involves post processing with a compatible personal computer and the supplied Digital Photo Professional software. Here the camera maps any spots that may remain on the sensor, saving it as Dust Delete Data and subsequently subtracting dust spots from the final image during post processing. A third option includes a manual sensor cleaning function which raises the mirror and allows users to clean dust that may have stuck to the low-pass filter.

Back to the Basics - In keeping with its EOS system heritage, the new Canon EOS Rebel XSi camera is equipped with a host of useful creative controls, including shutter speeds ranging from 1/4000 sec. to 30 sec. plus Bulb, a choice of four metering patterns including 4-percent spot metering (another first for the Rebel series), a wide range of exposure modes from fully automatic to fully manual, depth of field preview, mirror lock and much more. The new camera is fully compatible with all Canon EF and EF-S lenses, as well as EX-series Speedlites, an optional Battery Grip, and remote control and viewfinder accessories.

A departure from previous EOS Digital Rebel models, which accommodated CF type memory cards, the new EOS Rebel XSi camera utilizes SD and SDHC memory cards including those with capacities higher than 2GB, making it the perfect upgrade for users already equipped with SD cards from point-and-shoot model cameras. Additionally, the EOS Rebel XSi camera utilizes Canon's new high-capacity LP-E5 lithium ion battery pack, which provides 50-percent more exposures per charge than earlier models with virtually no increase in size or weight.

EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens - First introduced in August of 2007, the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens is Canon's answer to consumer demand for a high-quality yet affordable optically image stabilized lens and is included as the standard lens in the Rebel XSi kit configuration. The lens features the wide-angle to mid-range zoom flexibility of its non-IS predecessor with the significant advantage of Canon's true optical, lens-shift image stabilization system that yields up to a full four stops of image-shake correction. The Camera and lens kit version includes the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-55.6 IS zoom lens at package price that includes a discount so you can enjoy the benefit of a lens based image stabilizer system.

The higher performance provided by Canon's lens shift IS system (compared with the in-camera body sensor shift type offered in some competitive SLRs) includes the ability to optimize the lens performance for specific shooting situations such as low light, long-zoom or movement while shooting (or virtually any combination of the three). What's more, the photographer can see the optical image stabilization effect in the viewfinder. As the image already appears steady in the viewfinder or on the screen through the Rebel XSi Live View function, better framing and composition is possible allowing the photographer to concentrate on the best shot more comfortably.

What's in the Box - Expected to ship in April 2008 the Canon Rebel XSi camera will be available in a lens kit configuration with the EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens which will include a rechargeable battery pack and charger, USB and video cables, a neck-strap, an EOS Solutions Disk CD, and a 1-year Canon U.S.A., Inc. limited warranty.

I will research a better flash and should not steer you away from this great product.. Bought @ Christmas time @ a great price......

Comments about Canon Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens:

For someone that has always wanted to own a D-SLR, I find that choosing the right one to purchase seemed pretty difficult. That is until I found the Canon EOS Rebel XSi.

I have used Nikon D40s and D60s. I have also used the Canon EOS Rebel XTi, and Xs, and I could not decide which to purchase for the life of me. They are all very comparable. The features are a wash, but the Nikons have a great feel about them, unlike the Canon XS.

I started looking at the higher level models, thinking that maybe I had to spend more money to get the feel, and functionality I was looking for. I started with the Nikon D80, and although the price was a bit higher than the D40, and D60, the features didn't really add up. I finally picked up the Canon EOS Rebel XSi, and I realized that I had found a winner.

The feel was like night and day compared with the XS, and XT models. The XSi feels more substantial. The features are not to be touched by any of the Nikon D40-D80 series. The D80 costs more, and does not compare to the features of the XSi.

From the minute I took it out of the box, I knew that I had made the right choice. Being new to the DSLR scene, I found that the product documentation really helped me to get started quickly. It takes you through all of the steps from opening the box to setting the User Presets.

The picture quality is so much better than the average point an shoot cameras I've been using. It beats the Nikon D40 by leaps and bounds. The images are crisp and clean, and it shoots pretty decent shots in the dark, although I would imagine that a better flash would massively improve this.

All in all this camera has fulfilled all of my expectations. I find that I can't wait to take pictures, and I haven't felt that way in a while.

If you want a GREAT entry level, or a GOOD SLR for all levels, then the Canon EOS REBEL XSi is the way to go.

Comments about Canon Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens:

This is a very good camera for someone who has not used a DSLR before. The controls are simple and straight forward if you want to use the auto settings, but it does provide the flexibility to adjust any aspect of the photo capturing you wish. It's as complicated as you want it to be.
However, I was not blown away by the speed of the shutter, as well as the IS system on the lens. It was helpful at slower shutter speeds, but it did seem like it wasn't as stabilizing as the Nikkor VR system.

Still, I would recommend this camera for anyone looking to take the next step up in their photography. The picture quality is outstanding and it is a great camera for the price.

Easy to use/figure out. I have no complaints, except I wish it came with better lens. The starter kit is 'OK'. I've had it for one month and am already itching to upgrade. So, one can keep that in mind. Buy the camera, and expect to need to upgrade soon.

I originally bought this camera before the holidays. Not worth the price versus the competition. I returned the camera and bought a Nikon instead. The Nikon is a much better camera for the money.

Ritz was great at letting me return the Canon and get the Nikon. The Nikon is a much better camera for the same price, plus I got an extra lens with the holiday bonus.

The Canon would be a nice camera for around $400, but definitely not worth the extra money.

This is a good camera but not a great camera. I bought one for my husband for Christmas and we took several holiday photos. Unfortunately most of them came out bad. I thought is was the user, but I think it was the camera itself. I am really dissapointed since we lost a lot of the holiday photos.

We took the camera to the local store and wanted to see what the problem was. We tried several other cameras while we were there and was very impressed with the Nikon D80 and D60. We ended up with the D60 since it was a great value. The pictures for a new to DSLR/casual photographer are outstanding!

I use the camera mostly to photograph my children and family. The quality of portraits is AWESOME! You definitely have to read the instruction manual and I know there is so much more I can do, but so far it is really easy to use. I also can't wait to get some of the accessories like the camera armor to keep it safe from the kids. I love my new camera!

Comments about Canon Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens:

I purchased this camera for Christmas. I really enjoy taking pictures with it. I have not used an SLR in about 10 years so it is a learning experience all over again. I am still learning and still playing with all the features. I really like the large selection of lenses that the camera can use. The image stablized lenses are great when not using a flash for moderate light indoors. I was a little leary of the high price, but it was more reasonable with the instant rebates offered during Christmas. The body is a bit small, but I added a vertical release with extra batteries and it worked out great. Overall the battery last quite a while. The multi-focus points work great. It is a great camera outfit.

With a good (28-300) lens, this is a great camera for travel. I shot about 1000 photos at Yellowstone/ Grand Teton, everything from mountain panoramas to wildlife close ups to macros of plants and everything came out well. Its light enough to carry on the trail and took whatever bumps with no problems. Its ease of use made it a great upgrade to my first digital from a 35mm SLR. I never had a problem with battery life and 2 4gb cards were plenty for all the photos I shot over a 10 day trip. Its a good camera for the enthusiast that wants more than a point and shoot without the expense of a "professional" camera.

My kids are loving it and they are learning an amazing amount I can't post their photos right now because they are working on portraits but the amount the kids have pulled from this camera in this class has been awesome. They came in thinking a cell phone was a camera, I used shoe boxes to break them of that and now the icing is this camera, I am so happy.

It is easy to use and I will continue to upgrade as I learn more.
Although the camera is not large, because my hands are small I have had to get used to the size and weight. The adjustment has not been dificult with such successful results!

I am new to the dslr scene. I have not found out anything bad about it yet and I've been using it everyday for a few weeks now. Even my normal-speed SDHC 4GB card seems to work well in it. I haven't learned much on how to do the sports-mode (high-speed shooting) yet, but it seems to take at least 1 shot/sec on auto mode. This might improve with a higher-speed memory card. i've included a picture that I took of my son today, also in the automatic mode.

Comments about Canon Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens:

I entered the digital world after my beloved Nikon 8008 started to die on me. Plus, the price of quality film and the lack of good developing outlets drove me to digital. There was some reluctance to purchase a Canon after 40 years of Nikon, but I am very happy with the camera and feel this was an excellent move.

I upgraded to a Canon 55 to 250 mm zoom lens right away and rarely use the kit lens. I am still getting used to some of the settings, being a previous SLR user, but everyone is that has seen my work has been awe struck.

Will I upgrade to a more professional camera someday? Perhaps, but for now, this is my camera of choice. It has made a Canon believer out of me.

Very sharp images with accurate color at default settings. Good construction and convenient size and weight for travel photography. The 18-55mm lens is very versatile although an 18 - 85 or 135 would be better. I found that 90% of travel and most portrait photos I take are within that range. The included lens had an image distortion problem that was most evident at the lower end of the range but I believe it is an optics quality control issue and not a design problem.

I've bought my wife two other camera's, in the past, to take pictures of our sons, while they are playing football. With the 175mm lens she can catch them in stride, from the stands. She's definitely not a pro, but she can take pro looking pictures. Now everyone wants to borrow her camera. Thanks Wolf Camera......

Comments about Canon Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens:

I chose this digital SLR camera because of its features. It has many features previously seen only on the professional grade SLR cameras, but is extremely user friendly. I love that it is slightly smaller than a professional grade SLR and not as heavy. I have told several of my friends and family members about this camera and at least two have purchased this camera and are very happy with it. Why would anyone pay such steep prices when they could get just as good a camera with this Rebel XSI?!

I am getting back to photography after a long break especially the DSLRs. The xSi is great for people just getting into or looking something cost effective. The resolution is great and as the buttons. It probably won't compete against the other EOS in terms of features, but will it be more than to suit your needs.

My husband bought this for me just a day ago, and I am already hooked! We have had a typical digital camera for some time, but were sick of buying new batteries for it (not standard AAA or AA batteries, but the $50 rechargable made by the manufacturer). I have always considered myself interested in photography and always did the best with what I had. Of course there are more expensive cameras out there, that I'm sure do a fantastic job, but this is the perfect first major digital camera for me. After one day I have taken over 200 pictures... my plants, our cats and my husband. I have a list of accessories that I want and I'm sure this camera will be able to do everything I expect of it.

You know you have a great camera when your novice photos look professional quality!

I am an artist and photographer who was looking to switch from film to digital at a resonable price. I love this camera! I have the freedom of interchangable lenses and the ease of digital. The only drawback I've experienced is that the LCD screen, while beautifully large for viewing, could be easily scratched is you're not careful.

I had not found a digital camera(I own 3 other brands)that would capture the emotion of a smile or a tear like this camera does. I had a 35mm Canon Rebel for 15+ years which I vowed to never to get rid of because it took such great pics, better than any digital. I dropped it at my sons graduation; therefore, I had to purchase a new camera. My new camera has captured so many new emotions in one picture that my other camera could never do. The vibrant color, the focus and the easy operation has far exceeded my old thoughts. I miss my old Cannon Rebel but I will certainly enjoy my new Cannon Rebel much more. I should have made the switch sooner. (I'll never say never agian!)

I have always had an interest in photography perhaps just beyond the casual user. In my teens I had a Pentax SLR to mess around with, but quickly got caught up in the digital revolution and subsequently used point-and-shoot models for many years. Now a father of two beautiful girls, I wanted something that would reinspire my enthusiasm in photography, and this camera fit the bill in spades. The quality of the photos is amazing, and the camera feels, sounds, and operates flawlessly. Family members now bring their children to me to take photos of their kids. The only real downer for me is that the optional remote control only seems to work in conjunction with the camera timer setting. Otherwise, I am completely thrilled with the SXI.

I just started using the camera. It seems to be a great camera, easy to use. The automatic flash is a little loud when it pops up. Digital photography is not as simple as it was with film. Much of the darkroom work can be done "in camera" so there's more to learn but with a little application, the camera gets easier and easier to understand and use.

I'm using my original Tamron 28-300mm non digital lens and Canon 420EX strobe from my old Rebel XT with excellent results.

Well, that's my think on the subject.

The Rebel XSi is my first DSLR and I am very pleased with it. I wish the standard flash was a little better for the indoors, but for the price, I can't expect too much. I have shot engagement sessions with this camera and the standard lens, and it does an amazing job.

I shot at least one photo per day and I love all the cannon rebels I own. I have many of the 35mm rebel cameras as well as all of the ditigals rebels to date. I love that all my lenses are interchangable. I enjoy the feeling that all I have to do is aim and shoot and most of the photos turn out well. I would consider trading my first born before my camera, LOL, not really.

We have done two weddings and many pictures for the local paper and we still use both cameras.

Comments about Canon Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens:

This is a wonderful camera, my first step into the digital SLR realm. I couldn't be more pleased with the Xsi.

The price and quality are great. This camera packs a lot of features whether you want to go full auto or shoot in full manual mode. There are a dozen features in between the two, as well.

Only complaints are that the external battery grip is very costly and bulky. Extra batteries are also pricey, but they seem that way in all SLRs.

Photos are extremely clear and require little editing. I haven't even installed the Canon software that came with the camera- there has been no need. Quick and easy to get started. And as you want to learn more functions just read the manual.

I own a 37 year old Canon FT film camera that has taken somewhere around 25,000 pictures and still takes great pictures. My daughter has an interest in Photography so 6 years ago I bought her a EOS Rebal 35 MM camera, 6 moths ago I bought her an XTI. From my old FT to her new XTI it is difficult to buy anything other than a Canon product. I bought this camera for:
Canon quality, durability and selection of quality lenses. After reading the easy to read manual I took good pictures, after 3 months of use my picture quality is continually improving.

Had the original Rebel that finally bit the dust. I found this one to be an excellent replacement, great upgrade from the previous one, and just a wonderful camera. I've been shooting for over a year now, but there's still so much to learn. It's nice to have a new camera to learn it all on.

I use it for daily captions of my family, various events we take our kids to, zoos, museums, and many other things. I've also used it for my own personal things - Chicago Air Show, butterfly class, and some other creative, artistic things.

I don't have any cons for it, yet. I'm sure the more I use it, the more I learn, I might find something that I may not totally love. But so far, it's been great!

Comments about Canon Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens:

The XSi was release just as I was about to purchase an XTi. I waited until the XSi was available because I wanted the live view and the higher pixel count. I was replacing my first camera, a Canon D30. This was Canon's top-of-the-line pro camera and their first digital SLR. I am a beginner and purchased the D30 in 2005 from a relative. I was not disappointed in the camera but I did finally get to a point where I wanted more performance.

The XSi is an excellent camera. As an entry level DSLR I don't think you can go wrong with this camera. It bests the D30 in almost every way. Time will tell if the lighter weight construction will be a problem. I don't think it will for me because I am very careful with my gear.

The images are fantastic and the controls are easy to use and work as expected. All the features and functions work exactly as the Canon literature states. Nothing falls short of expectations. The images are very clean of noise even up to ISO 400.

This is a light-weight, semi-pro camera. Pro users will find some features that could use improvement. However, this is not a camera aimed at pro users. It is a training tool to get users into the pro gear. An excellent buy and at a good price.

The more I use this camera, the more I like it. Takes excellent photos, and outperforms competing digital SLRs that I've used. I'm not sure what I did before I had this... I feel resentful now when I have to use my old point-n-shoot compact digital.

I've already taken nearly 8,000 photos with this camera and continue to be impressed by its performance. It starts up almost instantly, handles beautifully, and captures an impressive range of tones and colors, although the kit lens does add a blue cast to some shots. The shake reduction in the kit lens is remarkably effective in low-light situations; I can handhold down to 1/4s and still get sharp shots. I once got 1000 shots off of a single battery charge, using very little flash, but doing lots of review on the screen.

Comments about Canon Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens:

This is my first SLR, so I was blown away by the speed and quality of the pictures. Of course I knew they would be better though. I wish I could compare to some other models or something but I can't.

I am very happy with the size/price/performance/features ratio. Of course since I did my research before hand, I knew I would be. I really wanted the 5D, but it's nice having flash on camera and being able to travel very compact, considering it's a DSLR. The new battery holds a great charge compared to my previous cameras.

Canon makes a good camera. You can get nit picky and you should if this is your profession, but I really can't think of any real issues I'm having as a hobbyist/casual user. One great feature is that you can leave it in stand-by mode while out and about for hours and it doesn't drain the battery at all, and when you depress the shutter half way, it's back on instantly ready to shoot. Also, I have used the Live-View function a few times and it works pretty good.

Some of the times I find that I wish the exposure were a little better in low light with the included IS lens, but wouldn't everyone. I could spend a couple grand and get some fast L glass, but for now I'm pretty happy.

Highly recommended.

This is really a camera that is very user friendly, for some one who is getting started in serious amateur photography. Canon has such a large selection of lens also.when one buys this grade of camera, a need to upgrade to a higher end camera is very unlikely.Recommend buying, however, with the "body only", then pick out a very versatile lens such as the canon 70-300 telephoto lens, or the 55mm to 135mm canon lens, as a separate purchase.Highly recommend this camera.

The live view shooting mode is worth its weight in gold! When you're limited to looking through the view finder, it can be nearly impossible to tell how a digital camera is assessing light. The live view mode lets you know exactly how your camera is reading the light. I have found that moving the camera as little as 1 inche can cause a picture become twice as bright or dim.

I found the XT version a little difficult to use after the film version G the XSi eliminates camera Shake, is still a compact full featured SLR with a much larger screen. I have been a Canon user for over 30 years and like the approach the company uses to develope new products. I recommend anyone purchasing the camera ALSO purchase a Magic Lantern DVD guide for the Rebel XSi. The guide book that comes with the camera in my opinion is complete, but confusing. the DVD is a very good IN GIVING YOU REASONS FOR USING VARIOUS FEATURES.

Amazing. Pics are MUCH better than my Nikon 5MP point and shoot. I didn't think there'd be THAT much of a difference. The only things that I wish could be improved were 1) that the "live view" feature disables the auto focus and 2) using the view finder ALWAYS make a big oily nose print on the LCD. And my nose isn't even that big - or that oily!

Wow...where do I begin? Most importantly, the quality of the pictures are a huge step up from our old point and shoot. We are definitely newbies to the whole DSLR world. This camera is loaded with a ton of features...I need to sit down and read the manual as well as a good Photography for dummies book. For now we use the 'automatic' setting for most of the pictures and they turn out beautifully every time. I plan on purchasing other lenses once I become somewhat knowledgeable with the settings.

Comments about Canon Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens:

I had a Nikon D40 but sensitivity was so low I was always using a high iso and the noise was terrible. I returned it and bought the Canon XSI which is nearly perfect. It has almost no noise even at 1600 and can easily shot indoors in low light without a flash. The body is very small and light for a DSLR so you can carry it around all day. Just beautiful results and easy to use.

This camera is a joy -- very fast, light, nice solid feel. I can't imagine anyone who wouldn't enjoy owning this. The output is remarkable.

Battery life is VERY good. I like how it takes SD cards, the Live View feature (which means it shows the image on the LCD screen, just like a point and shoot camera does, is nice to have. All in all, a fantastic collection of features, handling, and very cool software (you can control it from your PC) makes it a very desirable package.

Comments about Canon Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens:

First off, I'm a beginner. I wanted to get into photography as a hobby and researched quite a bit before I spent the money on a camera and lenses. The camera so far has been great. The kit lens is good enough for a variety of uses and I have since purchased another lens for portraits.

If you leave this camera on auto mode it should take pretty awesome pictures (better than a point and shoot) You'll get some of that "cool" photo effect in this mode. However, I don't care much for the limited settings it gives you in auto. You cannot use live view in this mode.

Spend some time reading up on manual settings and purchase a book on taking pictures with an SLR, because the manual settings are where the camera shines.

Overall, I would say pick this up if you think you'll use it. It's definitely not something you lug around to parties but it's not that heavy either...depending on your lens situation.

The excellent image quality, and very light weight camera and lense. I already took 2000 pictures during two weeks vacation in Utah. The light weight is the key when you hike 10 miles a day. It is very quick to down load images to your computer; 100 pictures in a minute. It would be even better if Canon offers a smaller size (shorter length) and brighter (lower F) zoom lens than the one comes with. Always warry about scrathing the LCD, need a transparent plastic cover/film for protection.

First digital SLR but also have an EOS Elan 7E film camera and a Fuji F10 compact digital. This one is the most fun to use and (obviously) takes the best pictures. We use the camera for kids sports, vacations, family pictures, and events. The standard lens works well and stabilization seems to help in lower light situations (also light weight and convenient). We also use a 28-200 USM zoom lens with no issues at all. LCD placement isn't the best as your nose/face are pressed against it with each shot - hard to keep clean. Works flawlessly and takes sharp accurate pictures everytime. Good color saturation and accuracy. It's really hard to take a bad picture with this camera!

Comments about Canon Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens:

This camera is pretty much perfect. The only con (and it is minimal overall) is that if you are continuous shooting with the flash on, you will sometimes get a "busy signal" that the flash is recycling and you have to wait for it to finish to keep shooting. Otherwise GREAT GREAT camera, it is nearly impossible to get a bad shot. sometimes they are a little blurry with the automatic focus, and I haven't mastered the manual focus yet. But this camera has so many features, and it is so easy to use. I had it out of the box and taking pictures within 5 minutes. The options are limitless. Even more important than the camera is the lens, so make sure you invest in some good ones.

You can experiment as much as you'd like with exposure, time, depth of field, a programmed setup for portaits, flowers, distance, or just use the completely automatic setting. The results are great.
The EOS Utility automatically downloads the photos from the camera and files them, along with the data, for review, editing, printing.
I've taken mostly flower pictures in the couple of weeks I've had this camera, along with some closeups of bees and butterflies: fantastic results, that I attribute to the camera, not me.
I wish I bought it sooner!

Comments about Canon Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens:

This is a very nice camera. The camera starts up instantly and takes the picture I want with no lag. While shooting sports lag is always an issue, I have detected none.
The battery is excellent. I was a little apprehensive over the case being plastic. My old camera was an A2E and built like a tank. Then I started thinking how they build planes out of plastic now so that concern was negated (at least in my head, and I was going from a tank to plane) so I bought it. Now I love the light weight of this camera and it’s no longer an issue “lugging” it around. If you just want to shoot decent shots keep the 18-55mm lens on it. It’s a feather, but this is a starter lens. When you get more money you will at some time want to upgrade it, there should be no rush as it’s a very capable lens and it has image stabilization.
Now for my real only complaint. When I first started using this camera I noticed I was not using the setting I thought I was. When I was shutting off the camera my finger was rubbing against the exposure wheel and it was changing the setting. Since being aware if this I have had no more problems with it.
You will be very please if you purchase this camera.

a great middle of the road camera, it takes great shots and does it very easy, it is light, however all plastic, i would spend the extra on the 40d from canon personally, over all a very competent camera but i just want a little more as far as fps. shooting and noise, the xsi is ok in speed and ok with noise. i would just do a body only camera and upgrade to a nicer lens, its going to be fine for most people and just quick snap shots. i wouldent rate it a 4 star but its better than a 3

Comments about Canon Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens:

I have started a photography business and the XSi is the top of the line in the "consumer" base DSLR. I can always upgrade to Canon's pro line while still using all the lenses from my XSi. The 12.2mp CMOS sensor rocks. It uses the same features as the upper models with 14-bit processing rather than 8-bit. The digic III chip is fast and accurate and the 9 point AF system is quick and easy to use even without a USM lens. Live mode is fantastic and easy to pick up on with minimal practice. I can even hook the camera up to my laptop and use live mode in conjuction with the laptop. Overall this is the best "starter" camera that I could have purchased for my photography business. And yes, I did look at Nikon, and I don't think that Nikon has anything on the consumer level that compares.

Comments about Canon Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens:

This is my first DSLR and I am in love! It is very easy to use and I found the manual to be quite helpful. For an entry level camera it is fantastic! My family took a day trip this past weekend and using the landscape, portrait and action presets I was able to achieve a more professional looking photo than I ever expected! Of course flipping over to manual is going to give anybody more creative control. Changing the most frequently changed settings is easy EXCEPT if you are not using the live view mode it is a royal pain in the rear to change your AF point. The camera needs to be to your eye but the buttons to move the AF point are right where the camera rests on your cheek or at least mine. That has been the only draw back/issue I've had with it.

There is still a lot I have to explore with the camera.

Comments about Canon Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens:

A fantastic entry level camera that has an ISO speed range which is offered mostly in high end cameras. I done a lot of research and could not find a 12.2 mega pixel camera in this price range with this kind of technology. I almost bought the Nikon D80 which offered a great package for the price. I decided to choose the Canon XSI cause it is the new big boy on the block for 2008 and it's a faster camera. I liked that it offers an image stabilizer lens which is a very big plus on the XSI. I use this camera for vacation, family events and taking wild life photos. I give this Canon camera a 5 star rating. I would have liked to see a better camera package offered like a second lens and even a cheap camera bag. I give the package only a 3 star rating.

Comments about Canon Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens:

I think overall this is a very good DSLR. I am still fairly new to the DSLR world but have really enjoyed learning on Canon cameras. I am not a professional and only use this to experiment and take travel/family photos, but I have found it to be easy to use with only a small learning curve from point and shoot models.

Pros: Good design layout and ease of use

Cons: Live View is not that great (knew this before purchase) and the construction could be a little better.

Overall: I am very happy with the camera and I look forward to future lens to make the experience all the better. I would definitely buy this camera again.

So far, this Camera is great. I use it a lot for local bands in gigs. It Shots great for low lights and the zoom lens works for close ups. This is my first SLR Camera and honestly I recommend it to others. Maybe some people may think that's expensive, but I think that is an investment because at the end you end up with great shots. My personal opinion for this Camera A++++

Comments about Canon Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens:

Wow, I didn't realize how much I missed my Canon EOS Elan II until I put my hands on this. I set the old one aside for a dinky pocket-size digital and haven't gone back to film. The dinky one finally broke after a few years, and I wanted to get back to taking decent zoom pictures and photographing weddings and such. I'm back to where my heart is. If you liked the Canon film cameras, you'll love this one! a 12 megapixels, it takes really good pictures if you don't want to cough up the mega-bucks for the "professional" grade cameras (that, in my opinion, aren't worth the thosands of extra dollars unless you do it for a living). Yessireee, my photography heart is back where it belongs -- with my Canon!

These pictures are just practice shots that I took playing around, not trying to be "artsy" or anything. The quail was taken from my living room window and the flower I was playing with the macro to see how close up I could get on a half-dead flower. :-)

Comments about Canon Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens:

This is a great all purpose take around camera. The new improved kit lens is great. Love the IS on the lens. I got nice sharp action shots with at the Grand Prix. I did get busy signals when shooting moving subjects, such as kids bungee jumping.
View screen is great. This is the perfect camera for a student(like myself), someone who is gratudating to the digital slr, or an enthusiast. I am really happy with it, but really want a 5D in the near future. This will be my all-purpose take along camera.
I took some close-up portrait shots in open shade, which looked beautiful with the kit lens. Very flattering texture and skin tones. Nice sharpness. I will use this a lot to shoot people.
Overall, this camera delivers at a great price. It's a great buy. I highly recommend it.
