High-end Features Add Up to Great Value. The PowerShot A720 IS is the quintessential A Series camera in a popular line that matches high-end image quality with fun, easy-to-use features that deliver excellent cost performance. Top-notch specifications include 8.0 megapixel resolution and a long 6x optical zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer Technology for sharp images throughout the zoom range. Canon''s DIGIC III Image Processor offers advanced Face Detection Technology and Red-eye Correction for fantastic images. Even expand your creative possibilities with wide-angle and telephoto converter lenses.

A Camera That Really Competes - Exceptional A Series camera with outstanding features such as 8.0 Megapixel resolution, high-power 6x Optical Zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer.

Top-notch core specifications allow the PowerShot A720 IS to produce a level of image quality that''s fully competitive with that of much higher-end cameras. A full 8.0 megapixels of resolution ensure rich depth and detail, and let you enlarge and crop images freely.

The camera is equipped with a genuine Canon 6x optical zoom to get you up close when it counts. Canon''s sophisticated Optical Image Stabilizer Technology keeps your shots blur-free, even in low light and at the long end of the zoom range. Miniature gyroscopic sensors detect motion, then send a corrective signal, effectively reducing camera shake.

Canon Technology Maximizes Quality and Performance - DIGIC III Image Processor with Genuine Canon Face Detection Technology sets the focus, exposure and flash automatically, leaving you free to compose a group, capture an unguarded moment, or coax the perfect smile.

With DIGIC III, your images boast superior quality, the camera operates at top efficiency and battery life is enhanced. What''s more, DIGIC III enables Canon''s Face Detection Technology and Red-eye Correction to give you better, more true-to-life people shots. Simply press the Shutter Button halfway down, and the camera automatically pinpoints the faces in the scene and chooses the ideal focus point. The camera controls exposure settings and flash to keep every face looking bright and natural. Red eyes can be corrected during playback.

DIGIC III features Face Detection technologies, giving the you best possible results in any shooting situation. Face Detection AF/AE sets the focus point and exposure for the faces of your subjects. Face Detection FE adjusts the flash to correctly illuminate your subject to provide the best balance between your subject and the overall scene, eliminating the common problems of over- and underexposed faces. Red-eye Correction detects and corrects red-eye during playback. In unusual cases where red-eye is not automatically detected, it can easily be corrected manually during playback mode.

The PowerShot A720 IS features ISO 1600 and High ISO Auto settings that reduce the effects of camera shake and sharpen subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater shooting flexibility.

iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the fast DIGIC III Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.

Night Snapshot - Get natural-looking pictures with brighter backgrounds and subjects lit by flash.
Indoor - Reduce blur and improve color accuracy when shooting handheld indoors.

Stitch Assist - Build awe-inspiring panoramas by neatly aligning sequential images.
    Movie - Shoot in VGA (640 x 480 at 30 fps/30 fps LP) for up to 1 hour or 4GB, QVGA (320 x 240 at 30 fps) or QQVGA (160 x 120 at 15 fps) for up to 3 minutes.

Comments about Canon Powershot A720 IS Digital Camera:

The only real problem I've had is trying to get animal shots, when the animal is moving around fast. The camera's lag time is better than other cameras I've tried, but still misses the shot with fast action a lot. Also, the battery runs down fairly fast, and there is a wait time between shots when this happens.
I'm very happy with it otherwise. I love close up photography of flowers, and after a little practice, I've had good results with the macro feature. All my shots come out nice and clear.

Comments about Canon Powershot A720 IS Digital Camera:

Loved the camera until the screen went blank 3 months after purchase. Camera still works, just can't review pictures, or use the screen to take them. Pictures will download to the computer. After taking it to the store, I found out it will take 6 to 8 weeks to get repaired. Thats almost 2 months without the camera to use. Very disappointed.

Comments about Canon Powershot A720 IS Digital Camera:

this was one of the easiest cameras I have ever had to get aquainted with, the setup and controls were very easy and I was able to pick it up and began uing it almost immediately. I do find that it lags a little more than the one I replaced and I have not had good luck in low light conditions. I plan to purchase the additional flash shoe and lens and I will continue to read the instruction book so I can take full advantage of all the amenities, perhaps I will figure out why I am having a problem with the lag time and lighting through additional research. But so far our 4th of July and Vacation pictures have been spectacular. My family thinks I'm a pro.

Comments about Canon Powershot A720 IS Digital Camera:

I upgraded from another PowerShot camera - twice - in the last 5 years. I took my first shot quickly after an easy set-up and was amazed at the clarity and color of the picture. I carry my A720 IS with me every day - just in case I see something that I need to capture! I've got my eye on a "regal" crane that poses on a limb at the lake I pass every day. Problem - there is no place to pull off the road to take that cool shot! So I've got to get creative!

Comments about Canon Powershot A720 IS Digital Camera:

I learned Photography at my father's "knee" so to speak and was working alongside him in his darkroom from the age of 4 on. I later married a Pro who was a Photog. in the Army in Viet Nam and we met after he came home and he taught me 35mm and I did quite a few Pro jobs afterwards until we divorced. But I have weakened wrists due to Carpal Tunnel and the surgeries to repair both wrists. I didn't do any work with my larger Minolta outfit which really is heavy now for me to use. So I had been looking at buying a digital ever since they came out and was always waiting for that "one" and about 2 months ago I decided to go on and buy the A570, which I liked, then during the 10 day leeway period I decided to upgrade to the A580 for the same price and THEN when the next day's paper came out, I saw the A720 was available for just $50.00 more! So I went back and upgraded again mainly because the 580 didn't have the interchangeable lens capabilities nor did it have the easier "discard" button on the back of the camera! I'm so glad I upgraded! Love this one!
So glad I waited til I found what I wanted! Sometimes you just have to keep trading in til you get what you want!

Comments about Canon Powershot A720 IS Digital Camera:

I use this camera for general use. It is MUCH faster than my old Casio QV3500. It dose not take pictures as sharp and bright as the Casio3.3MP,
but the speed of taking those pictures is fantastic. Also the 6 X optical is just perfect for my all around use. Although it takes a little more work to tune up the pictures in iPhoto, it is a very good camera.
