Brand: Panasonic

The DVD-S53 features a 1080p up-conversion function that converts standard definition (720 x 480 pixels) images from DVD sources to high definition (1920 x 1080 pixels) images. These up-converted signals draw out the maximum performance of an HDMI-compatible 1080p HDTV, giving you vivid, sharp and exceptionally detailed HD resolution images. And unlike ordinary video up-converters that produce images with thicker edges and decreased sharpness, the HD Enhancer keeps the edges sharp while correcting other parts of the image to produce clear, crisp pictures with outstanding detail.

Comments about Panasonic Single DVD HDMI Upconverter (Silver):

Setting it up was pretty easy. I just went down the list and selected all the options that worked for me.

I bought this right before X-mas and we watched X-Mas Vacation, which was recorded to DVD from a VHS tape and looked really great. We also watched a couple of other movies then it started behaving badly. About half way through the movie the machine would start skipping, freezing, pixelating, etc. The movies played just fine in my PC's DVD-ROM so the discs weren't the problem.

After talking to their customer service rep and getting nowhere I took the player back to the store for a refund.

I liked this machine so much I might be willing to buy another one like it but I think I'll wait until I see more reviews on other makes and models.
