I like having a work surface so that I'm not working directly on my table. Having a self healing mat as my work surfaces allows me to pull out my cutting blades and using them without also having to drag out a mat. The size allows me to to spread out a two page 12x12 layout.

I bought this to use for scrapbooking. I have room for my 12x12 paper and for applying glue and such to photos and embellishments without having to move things around each time!
