1/2.9" ClearVid CMOS Sensor 3.2 Megapixel (Gross)
Sony’s original ClearVid CMOS Sensor provides stunning detail and clarity with exceptional video performance (up to 1080 lines of horizontal resolution in HD format, or 530 lines of horizontal resolution in SD format). Additionally, the megapixel technology enhances your digital still photography experience with the ability to shoot high-resolution (6.1 Megapixel) still images. Unlike traditional CCD Imagers, CMOS Sensors require less power, providing improved battery performance.

10X Optical / 20X Digital Zoom
The optical zoom helps to bring the action close up from far away. In addition, Digital Zoom Interpolation means that extreme digital zooming is clearer, with less distortion than previous types of digital zoom.

2.7" Wide1 (16:9) Touch Panel Clear Photo LCD Plus Display (211K Pixels)
The 2.7" Wide1 (16:9) LCD screen provides exceptional viewing clarity with improved resolution (211K pixels). The display rotates up to 270 degrees for multiple viewing angles, as well as provides sharp, detailed images for monitoring or playback. The widescreen format makes shooting in 16:9 mode and composing shots even easier.

Cinematic Mode
Perfect for creating your own movie masterpieces, Cinematic mode lends a 24 frame film-like effect to your recordings.

Comments about Sony Sony HDR-HC9 MiniDV HD Handycam Camcorder:

I am creating a minimum of 60 8-min how-tos on fresh fruits and vegetables that are being broadcast on cable and on websites, as well as youtube. Production is in my home kitchen. The light weight, small size, allows use of Merlin for the videographer so we can spend 10 hours each time taping 6 shows. There are no other crew except myself (talent, costume, makeup, set) and the videographer (lighting, taping with one locked down camera and the SonyHDR-HC9 camera on Merlin, and editing) - makes the cost less and production time faster. The locked down camera is also Sony so matching is easily done. Sony once again has come through for me.

Comments about Sony Sony HDR-HC9 MiniDV HD Handycam Camcorder:

Before using the Sony HC9, I used a Panasonic three CCD camera. I would not go back to it. The picture quality of the Sony HC9 is fantastic. The color just pops.

Even when you film in standard definition, the picture quality is fantastic. And when you use Sony 70mm film, the picture quality is undescribable.

There are many great features on the camera. More than you will find on most cameras. Some I have never seen on any camera, except this one.

The only draw back to the camera is the battery itself. For the amount of money Sony is charging, you would think they would give you a battery with an adequate lifespan, but they don't. The battery that comes with the camera only lasts 1 hour and 46 minutes.
