Good things come in small packages. And the JVC GR-D770 High-Band Digital MiniDV camcorder is a great choice. This sleek camcorder boasts an incredible 34x optical zoom, making even the farthest of targets seem up close.A 1/6" 680k pixel CCD captures, clear crisp visuals, while the Aspherical f/2.0 Super Bright Lens, Auto Illumination Light, and NightAlive mode supplement and boost available light in low-light conditions. Additionally, the 3D Noise Reduction provides an improved signal to noise ratio, for a cleaner more enjoyable video experience. This is one small camcorder that's capable of producing some big results.The GR-D770 also allows you to capture still images while recording video. The pictures can be captured in 640 x 480 resolution and saved onto memory cards via the SD/MMC card slot.

    This is probably the greatest camera for the price. Older models don't have SD cards and interrupt recording when taking stills. This camera doesn't interrupt (card sold seperately).

    Only basic SD cards work - so don't buy the HD versions. MISTAKE = My 4GB card is very slow to access, and the more you store on it the slower it gets. I've taken over 1000 pics and still haven't used much of the card. Better to get multiple cards at 256MB or 512MB - they will work faster for you.

    Stills are quite grainy so don't expect to get much detail if enlarged. I think its fine for snapping some quick pics though.

    The zoom is amazing. We took a trip to Long Beach and I was able to focus on various road signs from our hotel room across the harbor. The shots are pretty steady until you get to about 10X zoom - a tripod or steadier hand than mine will correct that.

    Night vision is cool but is very blurry on things that are moving. Things that are stationary (or VERY slow) come out well though.

    It takes a while to start up once you hit the power button. If that bothers you alot, you should go for a pricier model. Nothing at this price is better though.

    Battery lasts about an hour but there are several aftermarket batteries available if you need more. I got a spare that lasts 3 hours for a decent price.

    I have not been able to use the camera because the battery has not worked since i got it. Ritz does not carry the battery anymore, and JVC will not contact me back. When the camera is plugged into the wall, it works great, but the battery holds no charge and have been unable to use the camera.

    I use this to record video and then capture on my computer using Pinacle studios. They seem to work well together and I am very satisfied. The controls are not real easy for play back until you read the manual. Once you learn them they are easy and work well.
