The VIXIA HF100 is one of Canon's first AVCHD (Advanced Video Codec High Definition) format Flash Memory camcorders. AVCHD uses an MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) video codec, recording true 1080 High Definition resolution video. An advantage of the AVCHD format is that it captures twice as much video using less storage, which enhances the extended recording time possible with Flash Memory.

The advantages of Flash Memory go beyond the added recording time. You'll also appreciate the quick response time, because it doesn't have to wait for moving parts. Press the record button and your VIXIA HF100 starts recording video faster than you've ever seen before. In addition, when you review your footage, it will come up more quickly as well.

Another plus is the VIXIA HF100's lower power consumption rate, allowing your battery to last longer. It's just what you need so you don't miss that pivotal play on the field or the moment when they say "I do".

While we certainly hope you keep your VIXIA HF100 securely in your hand while shooting, if it happens to slip, or you accidentally knock it against something, you'll be happy to know that Flash Memory makes your camcorder more shock resistant than other recording storage systems. It also minimizes the chance of data loss due to damage to your recording media or the moving parts in other camcorders.

Making this new technology even more convenient to use is the VIXIA HF100's compact size and light weight. Measuring only 2.9" wide, 2.5" high and 5.1" deep, it combines big video storage capacity in a small, easy to carry body.

Comments about Canon Vixia HF100 High Definition Camcorder:

For the price this video camera is unbeatable. The Full 1080i HD is amazing for everyday shooting and can quickly be switched into 3 frame rates for specific req. This camera can shoot 60i (HD), 30 FPS (Reality TV), 24 FPS (Movie/Cinenma). It supports the new SDHC cards which are made in large capacity (4GB-16GBish), 12x Optical zoom, Instant Assist Focus, and can record 1920X1080 Movies. The view screen has vivid color and picture and is large enough to easliy read the menus/options. Some cons.... the average batterie life is 60-90 Min which is not great but not altogether bad since an optional larger batterie can be purchased. This camera is very versitile, it could be used for professinal use or for making home movies. I would hiighly recommend this camera to anyone who is looking into communications/productions studies, any amateur movie maker like myself and even to the person who wants to capture vivid clear home movies. A definate 10/10.

If your trying to figure out what kind of Corder to buy and you got your head spinning. Well I was there to, with the forever changing formats of recording, whats going to be next? Not an expert but I do know a winner when I see it, the SD card is it! So forget those video cassettes, those ever changing CD and what ever else they come up with. The SD Memory cards are the way to go. Small and easy to us. Buying the more expensive ones gets you a durable card that can resist heat, moisture and have a fast transfur rate. which those cheeper ones don't grant you. the cards are easy to transfer from camera to frame to computer to reader to TV... almost anywhere... even your local photo shop! The flash cards are the way to go. Now lets talk about Moving parts! There are almost No moving parts on this puppy. the only motors are the Lens cover and the optical stabilizer. Therefore you dont have motors to wear out. How many of you remember our old cassette players? what always went on them? There is no Disc to worry about scratching. I have had this Corder for a few weeks now and was the right choice for me. The only down side I see was you need to stand pretty fare back to fit someone standing up into the frame. that doesn't work when your in a small room. the Lens angle could have been wider ( a wide angle screw on filter lenses is available). it comes with a boot on top for accessories but there are only two made a directional mic and a micro spot light.
Another con was the manual, very hard to read and follow. I still cant find certain answers to questions I have. Guess I will have call Canon on that one. ( Can you switch the control dial from movie to photo to photo review to video review while it is on? do I have to wait for the little red lite to stop blinking before each move? ( That little lite tells you the camera is reading the card, and as many of you know you should not do anything while that is happening or..." you may Loose Data" as they say. Shop around find the best prices and you will be a winner with a mighty good looken camcorder in your hand. Have fun and capture those moments on SD Cards. Sincerely RWM
