This DVD is a basic intro on how to use the D40, D40x, or D60. It's really like a companion to the instruction manual that comes with the camera, showing you how to navigate the menus, controls, and options on the camera to achieve the photographs you want. The DVD isn't advanced enough to let you skip reading the manual, but it's a great way to see some of the techniques and options the camera offers shown in color, vividly on the screen (not always that clear in the B&W manual with cartoonish drawings).

If you're new to Nikon digital cameras, the operation of the camera is not nearly as intuitive as the owner's manual makes it seem. This DVD provides all the information needed to make those controls intuitive.
The Instructor comes from the perspective that you as the viewer have no knowledge of the camera or how it works. And works his way into describing the details necessary for taking professional photographs.
It shows where all the bells and whistles are located and how they work together to provide crisp, clear, professional level photographs, not just merely snapshots.
In fact some of the information on the DVD isn't even in the owner's manual. So if you're a newcomer to Nikon digital photography or an old hand discovering a new tool, this DVD will bring you up to speed on the Nikon D-40, D-40X or the
D-60 in very short order. The instructor not only tells you how to use the functions, he actually demonstrates how to do it, and then shows you the resultant picture.
I found the DVD very useful, and enjoyed watching the material. This DVD is professionally filmed and produced rather than just a hodgepodge of information stuffed together. Nikon, job well done.
